From Wednesday, May 21, to Friday, May 23, 2025, Vienna's Rathausplatz will once again be transformed into a showcase of regional diversity as "Waldviertel pur" celebrates its 20th anniversary. This festival of regional delicacies invites visitors to experience Lower Austria's Waldviertel health region right in the heart of the Austrian capital. What once began as a small event has grown into a crowd-puller, bringing the Waldviertel's special features to Vienna since 2004.
For three days, over 100 exhibitors will showcase the region's culinary offerings, traditional crafts, and cultural diversity. Visitors can watch artisans at work, participate in mini-workshops, and enjoy musical accompaniment from brass bands, Schuhplattler dances, and rock bands. A highlight will be Elfi Maisetschläger's traditional costume fashion show.
Guests can expect a wide range of Waldviertel specialties, from potato dumplings to organic carp and game dishes to poppy seed noodles. Regional beers from Zwettl and Schrems, as well as wines from the Kamptal Valley, are also offered. In the "live kitchen," chefs and producers demonstrate how traditional dishes are prepared. To mark the anniversary, there's also a big competition with a chance to win a vacation in the Waldviertel.
