Malta will welcome holidaymakers again from July 1, 2020

The smallest member state of the European Union will soon be welcoming holidaymakers again. The corona measures must be observed on site. From July 1, 2020, no quarantine is necessary either on entry or return. From July 1, 2020, residents from Austria, Germany and Switzerland, among others, will be able to enter the Mediterranean state of Malta again without quarantine. According to the Ministry of Tourism, a 14-day quarantine is no longer required from this day. Since June 16, 2020, self-isolation is also no longer necessary when re-entering Austria. The Ministry of Tourism of the Republic of Malta recommends that travelers should contact the relevant authorities if they have any questions or uncertainties. The embassies and consulates are suitable contact points for this, which can provide competent and binding information. Malta will implement strict hygiene requirements in hotels and restaurants, but also on the beaches. This is intended to protect tourists, but also its own population, from infection with the corona virus. Some measures are also being taken at Luqa Airport that travelers must observe. For example, the Flughafen Wien AG subsidiary uses special thermal imaging cameras that are designed to automatically detect passengers with high body temperatures. Another new feature is that all of the airport's terraces have been completely banned from smoking until further notice. In the terminals, on public transport and in shops, it is currently mandatory to wear face masks. After landing at Luqa Airport, the health authority carries out random checks. These consist of measuring the body temperature of travelers and, if it exceeds 37,2 degrees Celsius, further questioning by public officials

Air Malta with 22 destinations in summer

The state carrier announces its comeback in scheduled services, but just a few days ago 70 terminated pilots were asked to return their uniforms. These were placed in garbage bags in front of the Air Malta headquarters in Luqa. Air Malta will serve a total of 2020 destinations in summer 22. The home base, Luqa, will officially reopen on July 1, 2020. On that day, the Maltese government will also lift the current entry restrictions for citizens of numerous countries. From the only commercial airport in the Republic of Malta, the destinations Rome, Lyon, Marseille, Prague, Catania, Munich, Frankfurt, Berlin, Düsseldorf, Munich, Vienna, Zurich and Geneva will be accessible again on July 1, 2020. Amsterdam, Brussels, Milan-Malpensa, London-Heathrow, Lisbon, Madrid, Palermo, Paris-Orly and Paris-Charles de Gaulle will follow on July 15, 2020. Air Malta also plans to serve Manchester again in August. With Madrid, the airline is even adding a destination that has not been flown to for more than ten years. Air Malta will only serve Luxembourg on July 4 and 11, 2020. According to the carrier, the cheapest tickets will cost 39 euros one way. In the area of sales, the airline also cooperates with Ryanair, but has no connection with Malta Air. The Maltese state carrier caused a real stir just a few days ago, as the number of pilots was almost halved. The 70 who were laid off were asked to return their uniforms. Since the Ministry of Tourism, which is responsible for Air Malta, remained silent, those affected decided to put their uniforms in shopping bags and in some cases even in garbage bags in front of the company headquarters in Luqa.

Eurowings Europe could take off again at the end of June

The Austrian subsidiary has been very quiet in recent months. Now a Eurowings spokesperson says that the restart could take place at the end of June 2020. In recent weeks there have been a number of changes surrounding the Lufthansa subsidiary Eurowings, as the closure of Germanwings was announced, the contracts of all external wet lease partners were terminated and, as a result, the DHC Dash 8-400 operator Luftfahrtgesellschaft Walter went bankrupt and is now being wound up. But the Austrian subsidiary Eurowings Europe has been very quiet. Management remained silent throughout the entire Corona period. It is quite obvious that changes must be made, as Austrian Airlines now certainly does not need wet lease services for the Airbus A320 aircraft type. So what will happen next? A Eurowings spokesperson broke the silence and said: "We expect Eurowings Europe to start flying again at the end of June - the exact routes have not yet been decided, but we will certainly be able to tell you more about this shortly." So there is a future for Eurowings Europe, but what exactly it will look like is apparently not yet clear. So we will have to wait and see what happens in the next few days.

Eurowings is forcing passengers to use the check-in counter

The Lufthansa subsidiary is calling on passengers to use web check-in to "avoid unnecessary contact at the airport," but instead of a boarding pass, they are asked to pick it up in person at the counter. The company says that this is not a mistake, but wants "all guests to come to the counter in person." In recent weeks, various airlines have been outdoing each other in press releases when it comes to presenting their Corona safety measures. Almost all airlines recommend using web check-in in order to avoid queues and personal contact. At Eurowings, the implementation is downright absurd, because the carrier expressly recommends using internet check-in, but the boarding pass must now be picked up at the counter and the carrier explicitly wants to ensure that "guests come to the counter in person." By email, the Lufthansa subsidiary explicitly calls on passengers to use web check-in in order to avoid "unnecessary contact at the airport." Here is the so-called invitation in its original language: Dear Mr. Gruber, check in now for your flight to Stuttgart. Use our online check-in to avoid unnecessary contact at the airport. Your safety and health is always our top priority on the ground and in the air. For this reason, we have already taken many measures and continuously increased safety precautions at the airport and on board. You can find all the important information on the subject of "flying" in Corona times here. We wish you a pleasant flight." During the internet check-in, you must confirm, among other things, that you are not suffering from COVID-19. When you click on the boarding pass, however, you do not receive

Controls: The Armed Forces help out at Vienna Airport

18 soldiers are assisting the Bruck/Leitha health authority with controls at Vienna Airport. However, the members of the Federal Army are not armed. Since Monday, the Federal Army has also been deployed at Vienna-Schwechat Airport for official border controls. According to the Ministry of Defense, 18 soldiers of the Guard under the leadership of the Burgenland Military Command are currently supporting the health authority of the Bruck an der Leitha District Administration in Lower Austria. Currently, between 30 and 40 aircraft with around 2.500 passengers land at the airport every day, and the number is increasing. Health checks take place all day during the service times specified by the airport (flight and arrival times). The body temperature of all passengers is measured. Passengers on flights from countries approved by the government are randomly checked in accordance with the requirements of the ordinance of June 16, 2020; all other flights are checked without exception. If a case is suspected or the fever test is positive, the person is examined by the medical officer and further steps are taken. "Today I was able to see for myself how the soldiers are deployed at Vienna-Schwechat Airport. They are doing an excellent job; the cooperation between the airport, the authorities and the Austrian Armed Forces is excellent. Through our joint approach we are able to guarantee the safety of the population - now and in the future," said Defense Minister Klaudia Tanner. "Air travel is taking off again, numerous airlines are resuming their scheduled flight operations in the coming weeks. The number of passengers will increase in the next few weeks and the Austrian Armed Forces are supporting the authorities in carrying out health checks at the site. The safety of passengers and employees is the top priority. The Austrian
