Cargolux puts a mask on the Boeing 747-8

Luxembourg's Cargolux is right on the cutting edge when it comes to fashion. The cargo airline has given its jumbo jet a new special paint job that is impressive: from now on, the aircraft will be wearing a blue corona protective mask on all flights. Exemplary! In addition, under the Cargolux lettering on the aircraft with the registration LX-VCF, it says: "Not without my mask". The cargo airline obviously wants the pandemic and the associated hygiene measures - such as wearing a protective mask - not to be forgotten.

Air Baltic slows down A220 takeovers

Air Baltic is putting the brakes on: The Latvian airline is postponing the acquisition of 25 Airbus A220-300 aircraft until 2024. This will slow down the expansion of the pure A220 fleet, which was previously announced. Air Baltic's fleet list currently shows 22 A220-300 aircraft. Three more will follow as planned by the end of the year, the airline announced. "After the crisis, it will become clear that a 145-seat aircraft is exactly the right thing, because many routes do not have great demand," said Air Baltic CEO Martin Gauss. "The focus on the A220 makes life much easier for us."

Berlin: Test capacities are running out

The months of travel are making life difficult for German laboratories. Dilek Kalayci, Berlin's health senator, reports that testing capacity is reaching its limits and material is running out. This is due to the large number of tests being carried out on returning travelers, aero.de reports. "We are currently at 93 percent," admits the SPD politician. But it is not just the laboratories in the federal capital that are worried. According to the Epidemiological Bulletin of the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), 64 of 157 laboratories in Germany reported that a backlog had formed in the week from August 10 to 16. In total, this affected 17.142 samples to be processed. In addition, 41 laboratories reported having delivery problems for reagents. Nevertheless, Health Senator Kalayci defends the health ministers' decision to introduce tests for returning travelers. "There was consensus to set a focus here nationwide because we saw a risk of introduction through returning travelers. The figures in Berlin and nationwide in recent weeks also confirmed this."

Balearic Islands: Free tests instead of rip-offs at Vienna Airport

The Republic of Austria's travel warning for the Balearic Islands has been in force since midnight. This means that returnees must now present a negative corona test or take one within 48 hours. As long as there is no negative PCR result, you will be in quarantine for a maximum of ten days. While Salzburg Airport is temporarily offering free corona tests for travelers returning from the Balearic Islands, Vienna Airport still charges a whopping 120 euros. In the city of Mozart, the boarding pass for the flight you just landed on must be presented to take advantage of the free offer. However, Viennese residents do not have to be tested at the airport for 120 euros, but can also take advantage of the free offer from the City of Vienna. This is not only available to travelers returning from risk areas, but also when returning from non-risk areas or from within the country. The result of the PCR test was sent by email from the evaluating laboratory in PDF format in German and English after just a few hours (the following day). Further information on the free Corona tests in Vienna can be found in this article.

Canada is now testing the Boeing 737-Max

The Canadian aviation authority Transport Canada has initiated the certification process for the Boeing 737 Max model. It is the first authority outside the United States of America to initiate the procedure. EASA has no plans for this yet, a spokeswoman told Reuters. Re-certification could possibly be granted in 2021. Transport Canada explained that the Canadian tests are completely independent of the FAA's approval process. In particular, the changes proposed by Boeing will be validated. The FAA's results will also be reviewed. However, TC did not give a specific timetable.

Italy: 412 million euros for Alitalia, 59 million for the rest

Italy will provide financial support to some airlines due to the coronavirus pandemic and compensate them. This is not state aid, but compensation for the financial damage caused by the lockdown. Unsurprisingly, the lion's share will go to Alitalia, but Lufthansa will also collect money through its subsidiary Air Dolomiti. According to an official statement, Alitalia will receive 412 million euros. A further 59 million euros will be divided between Air Dolomiti, Blue Panorama Airlines and Neos. The sums will be transferred quickly, but must be repaid in December 2020 if the EU Commission does not approve the aid. The compensation is to be granted independently of any further aid that could be granted in the form of state-guaranteed loans. Approval from Brussels is currently still pending.

Adria Airways brand now at half price

After failing to find a buyer for the Adria Airways brand in the first attempt, the insolvency administrator is now making a second attempt. The minimum bid has been halved to 50.000 euros. Interested parties can submit an offer to the insolvency administrator of the insolvent carrier until September 28, 2020. The processes surrounding the trademark rights under the ownership of 4K Invest are currently part of the investigation in Slovenia. In 2016, these were sold to a related company for eight million euros, before the Malta-based company was merged into Adria Airways in early 2019. The accusation, for which the presumption of innocence applies, is that the airlines' books are supposed to be inflated in order to make them look better.

Croatia no longer wants the A320neo

Croatian Star Alliance member Croatia Airlines is said to be in negotiations with Airbus about the cancellation of four Airbus A320neo aircraft. The first two units were originally supposed to be delivered in 2022. The other two would have followed in 2023. According to Ex-Yu Aviation, the carrier has already made down payments of 8,5 million euros to Airbus. The price for which the four medium-haul jets were purchased has never been made public. Now they are trying to get out of the contracts and are negotiating to ensure that the payments already made can be used for other Airbus Group services, a spokeswoman for Croatia Airlines told the portal.

FlyBosnia puts the only aircraft in the scrap press

FlyBosnia's only aircraft will now be scrapped. The E7-FBA, a 17-year-old Airbus A319, will be returned to the lessor and the medium-haul jet will then be scrapped. The carrier itself wants to have all flights operated by other airlines in the future, reports Ex-Yu-Aviation. In this context, FlyBosnia is again reducing its staff. An Airbus A320 operated by GetJet Airlines is currently used on scheduled routes. There has also been a change at the top of the young airline: Haris Čoloman has been promoted to Chief Executive Officer. His predecessor has left the company. In the future, FlyBosnia wants to focus more on charter flights and has set its sights on destinations to and from Italy, Egypt, Tunisia and Turkey. The company's own scheduled flights, including to Kuwait City, are currently only being operated to a very limited extent.
