First Viennese hotel offers corona tests for guests

Business travelers now have less to worry about Austria's entry regulations. Because: The 4-star boutique hotel The Harmonie Vienna is now offering its guests a Covid-19 test directly in the hotel complex as an additional service. This saves guests the often tedious search for a suitable doctor. "We have given a lot of thought to how we can offer our guests a service in these challenging times so that they can enjoy their visit to Vienna or their business appointments in Vienna with a feeling of security," says hotel owner Sonja Wimmer. The solution seems to be beneficial for all parties. The hotel can safely assume that the accommodation will remain corona-free. And guests are spared the potentially unpleasant step of self-isolation. The nasal swab test, which is perceived as unpleasant but actually common, is not used. Instead, the so-called throat rinse fluid - better known as the gargle test - is used. According to the hotel, this method has also been recognized and recommended by the WHO. A result should be available within a maximum of 24 hours.

Rhein-Neckar Air flies to Berlin-Tegel and Hamburg again

It was quiet around the German travel company Rhein-Neckar Air. Until now: After a six-month Corona-related break, the regional airline is flying to Berlin-Tegel and Hamburg again. It is still unclear when the popular travel destination Sylt will be included in the flight program again. "In the last few months, the phone at Rhein-Neckar Air has rarely stopped ringing. Many of our travelers have asked when we will be taking off again. We have received a lot of encouragement and support. I would like to thank all of our guests for this," said Dirk Eggert, Managing Director of the airline.

Vietnam Airlines offers one-way flights to Japan

National carrier Vietnam Airlines will operate four one-way flights from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh to Japan starting September 18. This will give people who want to study, work or simply visit someone in Tokyo and the surrounding area the opportunity to do so - despite the Covid 19 pandemic and the associated travel restrictions. Specifically, the planes are scheduled to take off for Tokyo on September 18, 25 and 30. In addition, a plane is also scheduled to take off from Ho Chi Minh on September 30. As of now, the airline is not planning to offer return flights, as the news portal "CH-Aviation" reports. And not without reason. Because the national authorities are still refusing to issue the corresponding entry permits. Boeing 787 aircraft will be used on all flights.

flyBAIR discontinues flights to Spain

The start-up flyBAIR, co-financed as part of a crowdfunding campaign, has to withdraw its Spain offer from its program. The reason for this is the new BAG regulation, according to which everyone who enters Switzerland from Mallorca must spend ten days in mandatory isolation. After less than two months, the newly added route has to be discontinued. The company also offers weekly charter flights to Heraklion and Rhodes and hopes to be able to keep these routes until the end of October. After that, it will be over for the time being: they do not want to get involved in the winter season and will keep the planes on the ground, as ch-aviation.com reports.

Tour operator optimistic: prices will fall in 2021

The news agency "DPA" asked some tour operators to give their assessment of price developments next year. The respondents are certain that 2021 will be a cheaper year for travel. Next summer, the desire to travel is likely to be particularly high, as people had to hold back this year due to various travel restrictions. It is therefore convenient that large travel providers such as DER Touristik or TUI are expecting price reductions and "attractive" prices next year. The latter plans to significantly reactivate and resume flight capacity in 2021, as reisevor9.de reports. Many new bookings for next year's summer months can already be recorded. These future prospects make us optimistic. At the same time, they are also fraught with enormous uncertainty. It is still unclear whether and when the majority of tourist destinations will be open to travel again without restrictions.

Graz: Austrian Airlines takes on Düsseldorf and Stuttgart

From October 5, 2020, Austrian Airlines will resume non-stop flights from Graz to Düsseldorf and Stuttgart. Initially, DHC Dash 8-400 turboprop aircraft will be used. However, the flight schedule is thinner than it was before Corona. "We are delighted that our joint efforts with companies from the automotive sector at the Graz location have borne fruit and that the important connections to Stuttgart and Düsseldorf have been strengthened again. This secures jobs in Graz in these challenging times and maintains our competitiveness with other competing regions," said Graz Mayor Siegfried Nagl. Austrian Airlines returned to Graz Airport on June 22, 2020 after a flight break due to Corona. Now Düsseldorf and Stuttgart are also being resumed. "After the connections to the major transfer airports Vienna, Frankfurt and Amsterdam were restored, Düsseldorf and Stuttgart were particularly important to us due to their importance for the Styrian economy and industry," said airport boss Gerhard Widmann. “I am very happy that after very intensive discussions with AUA we will be able to fly to both destinations again at the same time!”

Germany: Eurowings reacts to Lauda withdrawal

The champagne corks must have been popping at Eurowings, as Ryanair is known to be withdrawing from Düsseldorf for the time being. This means the loss of numerous jobs at its subsidiary Lauda. The Lufthansa subsidiary, on the other hand, has now announced that numerous routes will be taken over. Specifically, Eurowings has decided to increase its flight offering from Düsseldorf to Mallorca, Ibiza, Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria, Tenerife, Málaga, Alicante and Faro at short notice. Eurowings will also be increasing its flights to the Greek destinations of Heraklion, Rhodes, Corfu and Kos from October 24th. From this date, Ryanair announced its withdrawal from Düsseldorf Airport and - as it had previously done in Stuttgart - canceled all flights without further ado. In return, travelers with Eurowings can now fly from Düsseldorf to more than 80 direct destinations across Europe, with free and flexible rebooking like never before. Jens Bischof, CEO and spokesman for the management of Eurowings: "Stuttgart and Düsseldorf are just the beginning - on closer inspection, the ultra low-cost business model is in decline throughout Germany: Instead of eroding social standards and regularly offending partners and customers, we offer reliability, fairness and long-term perspectives. In times of crisis, our customers are not looking for 5-euro tickets, but more than ever for an airline they can trust. We are pleased that we can now offer even more customers in North Rhine-Westphalia fair and attractive offers for their next flight."

Lufthansa Group increases the GDS fee

A few years ago, the Lufthansa Group introduced a surcharge for bookings made via GDS systems. Now this is being increased from 16 euros to 19 euros, reports the industry magazine FVW. The group members Austrian Airlines, Swiss, Brussels Airlines, Lufthansa and Air Dolomiti are affected. The so-called "distribution cost charge" will be 1 euros from October 2020, 19. The group justifies the surcharge with higher costs incurred through this sales channel. GDS systems are primarily used by travel agencies, but also by company-owned travel offices. Well-known providers for this are Sabre, Galileo and Amadeus. There are no changes to the use of the so-called NDC channels and the LH Group Agent platform. Lufthansa has been pushing for travel agencies to use these as an alternative to GDS systems for at least five years. End customers are also not charged the GDS fee when purchasing tickets via the homepages of Lufthansa and its subsidiaries.
