Condor is moving forward to Leipzig routes on January 30, 2021

The holiday airline Condor has announced that it will be starting some routes from Leipzig/Halle on January 30, 2021. The reason for this is that the German state of Saxony will bring the winter holidays forward. Condor will bring holidaymakers back to the Egyptian seaside resort of Hurghada twice a week and will fly to the Canary Islands three times a week. On Fridays it goes to Tenerife, on Saturdays to Fuerteventura and on Sundays to Gran Canaria. "The longing for a holiday is great, as we can see from our flights to the Canary Islands, Cuba, the Dominican Republic and the Maldives. We are pleased that responsible travel is again possible for our customers from Leipzig just in time for the winter holidays - with guaranteed deserted beaches, sun and relaxation," says Condor boss Ralf Teckentrup.

Dortmund: 55 percent fewer passengers in 2020

Dortmund Airport recorded a 2020 percent drop in passenger numbers in 55. In total, the airport handled 1.220.624 passengers. The number of flight movements fell by 48 percent. Most travelers flew to Katowice, Bucharest and Sofia. "A very difficult year for the entire industry is coming to an end. The corona pandemic has presented us with unprecedented challenges and required a high degree of flexibility. The issues ranged from the creation of hygiene concepts, the introduction of short-time work and the establishment of test centers to the almost complete standstill of air traffic, the establishment of a Wizz Air base and the restart of air traffic. Even though we ended 2020 with a better percentage than the average of all German airports, we fell far short of our actual goal of building on the record year of 2019," summarizes airport managing director Ludger van Bebber. Van Bebber is cautiously optimistic about 2021: “The good cooperation with our system partners even in the crisis, the flexibility and commitment of the entire workforce, the support of our parent company DSW21 and, last but not least, the commitment of our largest customer Wizz Air to the Dortmund location allow us to look to the future with confidence. We assume that there will be a substantial recovery in air traffic in the course of 2021. An accurate passenger forecast during the Corona pandemic is almost impossible - 2020 has shown us this impressively. It is important for us to take a clear step in the right direction in 2021 so that we can build on 2022 in 2019. With a

Austria extends the ban on UK and South Africa flights

The Austrian government is extending the landing bans for passenger aircraft that took off from the United Kingdom or South Africa by two weeks. The NOTAM required for pilots and airlines has not yet been published. However, this step is to be taken soon. Due to a new virus mutation, Austria is banning incoming passenger flights (nonstop) that took off from South Africa or the United Kingdom. However, connecting flights are not covered by this ban.

737-Max: US fines Boeing $ 2,513 billion

In return for a payment of 2,513 billion US dollars, American criminal investigators are dropping the case against Boeing. The allegations made in connection with the 737 Max are serious. The United States Department of Justice announced on Thursday that it had reached an agreement with the aircraft manufacturer to pay the aforementioned sum. The investigation was based on a "conspiracy to the detriment of the USA". Federal prosecutor Erin Nealy Cox said in a statement that Boeing employees put profit before transparency. In this context, essential information was withheld from the FAA and corresponding cover-ups were carried out at the same time. By paying the fine, the company will now be held accountable for the "criminal behavior of its employees". Part of the billions will go to the relatives of those affected by the two fatal crashes. Airlines will also benefit from the agreement. According to the investigating authorities, Boeing admitted responsibility for the MCAS issue. The company deceived the FAA regulatory authority regarding this system, so that information about MCAS was missing from important documents, according to the US Department of Justice. The fine is broken down as follows: The Department of Justice will receive around 243,6 million US dollars as a fine; around 500 million US dollars will go to the relatives of the two fatal crashes; around 1,77 billion US dollars will go to the operators of the Boeing 737-Max as compensation.

Summer 2021: Easyjet focuses on Innsbruck and Vienna in Austria

The low-cost airline Easyjet will significantly reduce its presence in Austria in the 2021 summer flight schedule - in direct comparison with the offer "before Corona". The company is currently not planning to reactivate the routes from Graz and Salzburg. However, flights to Germany from the city of Mozart are to be resumed in winter 2021/22. Easyjet gave Aviation Direct a first insight into the routes planned for the 2021 summer flight schedule from Austrian airports. The list of routes submitted shows that, as things stand, the offers from Salzburg and Graz will no longer be included in the 2021 summer flight schedule. This affects, for example, the connections to Berlin. "Basically, we are constantly reviewing our flight schedule with the aim of bringing it into line with changing travel restrictions and demand. We always reserve the right to flexibly increase our flight program if there is demand," said a spokeswoman for the company. From Salzburg, the German routes to Berlin and Hamburg are to be served again in the 2021/22 winter flight schedule. The offer can already be booked, according to the carrier. The carrier will also start the 2021 summer flight schedule with a reduced offer in Vienna-Schwechat. Currently, only four routes are planned from Austria's largest airport. In general, Easyjet will concentrate its presence in the Alpine Republic on the airports in Innsbruck and Vienna. The route list shown below was sent to Aviation Direct by the low-cost airline upon request and represents the planning status as of January 8, 2021. Changes are possible at any time due to the currently unclear situation surrounding Corona and the entry and quarantine regulations. planned Easyjet routes from Innsbruck:

VIE: AUA clears four floors

The Corona crisis is putting Austrian Airlines in its place. The flag carrier recently had to introduce cost-cutting measures in order to get through the pandemic relatively unscathed. Now another one has been added: AUA will rent four floors of the office complex at the airport in the future. The spokeswoman also revealed to the news portal Heute how things will continue in the future: "Austrian Airlines will reduce the existing office space in the main building from eight to four floors in the future. We are working on returning the unused work space to our building owner, Vienna Airport, as soon as possible." There is currently no exact timetable for implementation. The pandemic has accelerated the development of flexible working methods in many companies, including the Lufthansa subsidiary. "Our main building is currently largely empty and the administrative staff work almost exclusively from home."
