Rhein-Neckar-Air is back in the air

Mannheim Airport's own brand, Rhein-Neckar Air, has been back in the air since Saturday. After a long break, MHS Aviation resumed flights to Sylt with a Dornier 328. RNA is a so-called virtual airline. For almost eight months, MHS Aviation was unable to operate Rhein-Neckar Air flights. The reason for this is low demand due to the corona pandemic. Hamburg, Berlin and Sylt, among others, are offered from Mannheim under this brand. The latter destination is also available from Kassel-Calden. On Saturday the time had come: a Dornier 328 flew from Mannheim to Sylt. This means that there are regular scheduled flights again at the small airport. Three rotations per week are planned to this destination. Flights from Kassel-Calden will be operated twice a week. RNA also intends to resume the other destinations in the route network.

St. Petersburg: Gazprom is to build a second airport

The Russian city of Saint Petersburg is about to get a second international airport. This is to be built on the site of the Levashovo military base, which is located around 15 kilometers away. According to local media reports, a purchase agreement is close to being signed with Gazpromavia. Levashovo will no longer be used for military purposes in the future. Therefore, people are thinking about how the area and the existing 2.500-meter runway can be used in the future. What is certain is that the approximately 148-hectare site will be sold. According to the newspaper Delovoy Peterburg, Gazpromavia is said to be involved. The airline of the energy company Gazprom is to bid at an auction and convert the current military base into an international civil airport. This will include building a passenger terminal and corresponding parking areas for passenger aircraft. It is unclear whether the airport will be used for business jets or will become serious competition for Polkovo Airport. Delovoy Peterburg also writes that a deal has already been concluded. According to the deal, the area is to be sold to the Gazprom Group for just one ruble. The company will build the necessary infrastructure at its own expense and will receive the operating concession for 49 years. The deadline will begin counting from the opening. Gazprom already owns several airports within the Russian Federation and plans to spend around 456 million euros on the project in St. Petersburg. Officially, the company does not want to comment on the report yet, but refers to further information that is to be announced at a press conference. Gazpromavia is the Gazprom Group's internal flight service. It also operates scheduled flights and operates some domestic routes within Russia.
