Corona broke Nuremberg's 40 million euros loss

The corona pandemic resulted in a loss of 40 million euros for Nuremberg Airport last year. The austerity measures initiated by management were able to minimize the shortfall, but not prevent it. The loss was limited thanks to the management's early reaction and determined implementation of savings in investments, personnel and material costs. Since April 2020, the instrument of short-time work has been used extensively in almost all areas of the group to preserve jobs until the pandemic is overcome. A voluntary program was launched in order to adapt the workforce to the lower traffic volume in the future. 78 percent fewer passengers In 2020, 917.296 passengers used Nuremberg Albrecht Dürer Airport for business and vacation trips or to visit their families and relatives. The decrease of around 78 percent compared to the previous year is a result of pandemic-related travel restrictions. The last time fewer than one million passengers were counted at Nuremberg Airport was in 1985. Passenger traffic was distributed as follows: Traffic within Europe fell by 77,8 percent to 704.000 passengers. Traffic to destinations outside Europe fell by 66.000 percent to just under 69,0 passengers, performing slightly better than the airports in the airport association ADV, which averaged -77,1 percent. After a promising start to the year with slight growth in January and February 2020, the Corona pandemic led to a sharp decline in passenger numbers from March onwards, and shortly afterwards even to a complete cessation of commercial passenger air traffic until mid-June 2020. The 2020 travel summer fell short of expectations.

Holidays 2021: ÖAMTC gives valuable tips

The entry regulations planned by the Austrian federal government can lead to a reclassification even during a stay in a holiday country. For example, it can happen that the destination region is still green when you leave and the color changes during your stay. Health Minister Wolfang Mückstein (Greens) gave a first preview of the new regulation on Monday, which is due to come into force on May 19, 2021. If the country of stay is classified as "safe" (green), there will be no requirements whatsoever when you return to Austria. Red means that proof of testing and/or vaccinations or recovery must be provided. In so-called virus variant areas, quarantine must be undertaken. When asked on this topic, the ÖAMTC stated: "The tour operator must ensure that the family returns safely and is not exposed to any danger. The specific measures required depend on the specific situation. The right thing for the family to do is to follow the reports, check the Foreign Ministry website to see if there are any specific tips on their holiday destination and contact the tour operator.” Individual travellers cannot contact a tour operator because they organise their trip themselves and book the individual components such as flights, hotels or excursions on their own. This means that there is usually no cover under the package travel directive. Excluded from this are so-called “linked travel services”, which can arise if at least two components are booked through one provider. The ÖAMTC describes the advantages of package travel over individual travel as follows: “There is a central contact person (the tour operator) and you don’t have to
