USA flights: Lufthansa is campaigning for rapid opening

According to Lufthansa, demand for flights to the USA for the summer has increased significantly in the past two weeks. Connections to New York, Miami and Los Angeles have seen a booking increase of up to 300 percent. As a result, the airlines of the Lufthansa Group are further increasing their offerings to and from the USA from June and are once again flying to destinations such as Orlando and Atlanta. At the same time, Lufthansa is calling for an opening perspective for the transatlantic: "Given the great importance of transatlantic air traffic for the global economy, we now need a perspective on how travel between the USA and Europe can be made possible again on a larger scale. With falling infection rates and increasing vaccination rates, a cautious opening is possible," emphasizes Lufthansa board member Harry Hohmeister. Still no easing in sight But these entry easing measures are still a long way off. US citizens are allowed to go on holiday in Italy again, for example - the government there has relaxed its regulations. Conversely, however, there are still no uniform solutions. And this despite the fact that EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen had promised travel easing between the European Union and the USA for vaccinated people at the end of April, as tip-online.at reports. Demand for holiday destinations has also risen significantly For classic European holiday destinations such as Greece, Italy, Spain or Portugal, Lufthansa and Eurowings have reported that they have already recorded up to three times as many bookings in the past seven days compared to the previous weeks. On some routes to Spain, such as Palma de Mallorca, Ibiza or Barcelona, bookings were even higher than in 2019. Flights to the

SWISS is testing another digital solution for health proof

Starting today, the Lufthansa subsidiary, as part of the BlueIcareUs alliance, consisting of Swiss companies and organizations from the aviation and healthcare sectors, is testing another digital offering for checking test and vaccination certificates. This is intended to make traveling easy and reliable for its passengers during the corona pandemic. The international solution was developed by the Swiss startup Cyberfish with a view to developing a national and international vaccination and test certificate in cooperation with the Federal Office of Public Health (FOPH), the Federal Office of Information Technology and Telecommunications (BIT) and in coordination with the preparatory work for the "EU Green Certificate". Counterfeit-proof technology Passengers can manage their vaccination and test certificates, which are sent directly to their mobile devices from connected test centers and laboratories, as a digital wallet. No app needs to be installed for this. This allows customers to provide forgery-proof proof to airlines and authorities that they meet the entry requirements without disclosing personal health information. In addition, the encrypted barcode makes processes at airports more efficient and faster. There are no data protection concerns, according to the company. The airline will be testing the functionality of the new digital solution in the coming days, with a possible introduction planned for the third quarter of 2021. During the test phase, passengers must also carry official health certificates as required by the destination country. Swiss is already testing the IATA Travel Pass on the Zurich - London Heathrow route. In addition, passengers on certain routes can upload their test certificates up to 12 hours before departure. These are then checked so that customers know before departure whether they meet the requirements of the respective authority.

The popular Globetrotter restaurant is reopening to pamper its guests with culinary delights as usual. "My team and I are happy to be able to get started again," says Jürgen Kahl, Unit Manager of Lagardère Travel Retail Austria. Wizz Air unlocks more and more German routes

Fewer travel restrictions and more flights: Wizz Air is pedalling hard. After entry regulations were relaxed in several countries, the airline is reactivating more and more routes. The route network to and from Germany will be continuously expanded to include further connections in the next few days. It will start with a real premiere: from May 20th, flights will be flying from Dortmund and Memmingen to Sarajevo for the first time. The former Olympic city in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which hosted the 1984 Winter Games, is on the flight schedules of the two airports several times a week. Destinations in Romania, Bulgaria and Hungary in particular are now being revived. "We flew as many routes as possible during the pandemic months," explains press spokesman Andras Rados. "But now there is new momentum." Because when returning to these countries and to Germany, in addition to vaccinated and recovered people, those who can show a negative antigen or PCR test do not have to go into quarantine. "That's basically every passenger," says Rados, "because you can't board without a test or certificate." In addition, there are non-stop flights several times a week from nine German airports to Varna on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast, the internationally famous seaside resort. Those who prefer cooler weather can head from Dortmund to Iceland from June 15th. There are non-stop flights to Keflavik Airport outside the gates of the Icelandic capital Reykjavik twice a week. The Italian cities of Bari and Catania as well as Larnaka in Cyprus will soon be accessible again from several German airports with the low-cost airline. Wizz Air flies in Germany from Cologne, Dortmund, Frankfurt Hahn, Hamburg, Memmingen,

Austria recognizes China vaccine - Sputnik V does not

A few days ago, the Austrian Ministry of Health announced that vaccinations carried out using Sinopharm (China) or Sputnik V (Russia) do not lead to any easier entry due to the lack of EMA approval. This was obviously only half the truth, because a look at the entry regulations signed by Wolfang Mückstein (Greens) shows a different picture. Contrary to the original information from Mückstein's ministry, the list of vaccines that lead to easier entry into Austria also includes the Chinese Sinopharm vaccine. The Russian Sputnik V is not included, so it is not recognized. The fact that the Chinese vaccine leads to easier entry was never publicly communicated by Mückstein and/or his ministry. Quite the opposite: In a kind of mini PR campaign, it was even emphasized that only those vaccines that are approved by the EMA are recognized. Among those benefiting from the recognition of the Chinese vaccine are people from Serbia, the Czech Republic and Hungary, where it is used on the basis of national emergency approvals. Serbia is not a member of the European Union, so this state does not depend on EMA approvals anyway. The list of vaccines signed by Wolfang Mückstein was published in the Federal Law Gazette II No. 222/2021. The corresponding passage in the original from the Minister's regulation: "Appendix I Vaccines according to Section 2 Paragraph 3 Comirnaty/BNT162b2/Tozinameran (INN) from BioNtech/Pfizer: 2 doses ChAdOx1_nCoV-19/ChAdOx1-S/AZD1222/Vaxzevria/ COVID-19 Vaccine AstraZeneca from AstraZeneca, and Covishield from Serum Institute of India: 2 doses COVID-19 Vaccine Janssen from Johnson & Johnson/Janssen Pharmaceuticals/Ad26.COV2.S Janssen (US + NL sites): 1 dose Covid-19 Vaccine Moderna/mRNA-1273 from Moderna: 2 doses Sinopharm / BIBP (Beijing Bio-Institute of Biological Products Co-Ltd.) SARS-CoV-2 Vaccine (Vero Cell),

Ryanair wins lawsuits against state aid for TAP and Air France-KLM

In the cases of lawsuits filed by Ryanair against state aid to various airlines, the carrier won the TAP and Air France-KLM cases. The General Court of the European Union found in the first instance that the approval granted by the EU Commission was not compatible with Union law. The ruling is particularly exciting because the same court, which was set up as a preliminary stage before the European Court of Justice, has ruled against the low-cost airline in comparable cases. Although Ryanair always appealed to the ECJ, it was nevertheless defeated in the first instance. The decisions in the Air France-KLM and TAP cases are expressly not yet legally binding, because the losing parties can appeal to the ECJ. Ryanair's lawsuits are expressly not directed against the airlines themselves, but against the approvals for state aid granted by the EU Commission. To put it simply: the airlines affected are only "passengers" in the proceedings and do not even have party status. They have no choice but to wait and see what the judiciary decides. "One of the EU's greatest achievements is the creation of a single market for air transport. The European Commission's approval of state aid to Air France-KLM and TAP violated the fundamental principles of EU law and reversed the process of liberalising air transport by rewarding inefficiency and encouraging unfair competition. During the Covid-19 pandemic, discriminatory state subsidies worth over EUR 30 billion were awarded to EU flag carriers. Unless the EU courts stand in line with today's decisions, this

Green pass from June 4, 2021: data protection activists are storming

The "Green Pass" announced some time ago by Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz (ÖVP) is to be launched at least nationally on June 4, 2021. Health Minister Wolfgang Mückstein (Greens) announced this. The app is already "EU-fit", but initially only applicable domestically. In the Union, the solution is to be used in travel and in the event of national access restrictions from July 1, 2021 at the latest. Austria is launching an app in June 2021 that will already meet the common requirements, said Mückstein. However, behind the scenes there are increasing concerns about data protection, because the law behind the application provides for extensive linking of a wide variety of data. According to a report in the daily newspaper Kurier, which cites Epicenter Works, current and historical data on occupation, educational background, unemployment, sick leave and even income level are to be included, among other things. According to the institute, this would be covered by the law. It remains to be seen how things will develop, because if such extensive data links are actually implemented, there will be considerable resistance from data protection advocates. The inclusion of the information quoted in the previous paragraph makes absolutely no sense in the context of the need to prove whether someone has been tested, vaccinated or recovered. Some data protection advocates fear that scanning the QR codes can be used to create real movement profiles. In fact, neither the EU Commission nor the national governments have yet been able to explain conclusively who actually gets access to the queries and where and for how long they are stored.

Salzburg: Tui offers 22 flights a week

In summer 2021, tour operator Tui will be offering 22 direct flights a week from Salzburg Airport to five holiday countries. New connections to Zakynthos, Calabria and Cyprus will be offered. "Last year, traveling was one of the activities most missed. The desire to travel is therefore great. This is shown by the number of hits on our website and the enquiries in our travel agencies, which have risen sharply since the announcement of the easing of travel restrictions in the summer," said Gottfried Math, Managing Director of Tui Austria, on Tuesday at a press conference at Salzburg Airport. "Finally again: fly from Salzburg! With the latest Covid regulations, of course. TUI - one of the strongest partners here at Salzburg Airport - has launched a summer program from Salzburg together with our strongest airline partner Eurowings that is impressive. In addition to the tried and tested classics such as Mallorca and the tourist favorites on the Greek and Italian islands, exciting new destinations such as Zakynthos, Larnaca and Lamezia Terme are also on offer.
