Groningen: Green Airlines charters German-Airways E190 “climate-friendly”

The charter company Green Airlines UG (limited liability) wants to market flights operated by German Airways (formerly: WDL) from Groningen in the Netherlands from July 2021. The provider charters Embraer 190 aircraft and markets the seats at its own risk. Contrary to what the name would suggest, Green Airlines is not an airline. The company does not have an AOC or operating license from a European aviation authority. It therefore charters aircraft from German Airways, under whose flight numbers it flies, and markets the seats at its own risk. Green Airlines claims that it is offering and selling particularly climate-friendly flights. It claims that it would make compensation for each ticket, but does not give any further details or publish on the website what is supposed to be so particularly climate-friendly about the flights. In any case, Green Airlines wants to offer seven connections per week from Groningen, which are to be operated with chartered German Airways E190s. These are the destinations Palma de Mallorca, Ibiza, Kurfu and Faro. As of September 1, 2021, the airline plans to market an additional five weekly flights to Turku, Finland. In a media statement, Green Airlines describes the Embraer 190 aircraft type chartered by German Airways as particularly climate-friendly. Among other things, it writes verbatim: "The aircraft is known for its fuel efficiency, low emissions and low noise levels." This statement is to be classified as misleading, as German Airways operates the first generation of the E190. Calculated per seat, fuel consumption and the associated pollutant emissions are higher than those of comparable types. If the successor model, the Embraer 190-E2, were to be used, the balance would be fundamentally different.

Austria is partially abolishing pre-travel clearance

The Austrian federal government announced on Friday that from June 10, 2021, the so-called pre-travel clearance form will only have to be filled out if you are entering Austria from so-called high-incidence or virus variant areas. In the future, the system will be based on the German Robert Koch Institute. Traveling abroad will be even easier for Austrians," explains State Secretary Magnus Brunner (ÖVP). "With the Green Pass, we get our basic freedoms back. This is how the Green Entry Pass becomes the Green Travel Pass!" However, the digitally readable certificate for those who have been tested, recovered and vaccinated will not be available across the EU until July 1, 2021. "We expect this time frame to hold so that travel within the EU can be as worry-free as possible from July - just in time for the start of the holidays," says Austrian Airlines CEO Alexis von Hoensbroech happily. From the summer, the "digital EU Covid certificate" can be stored on a mobile phone or carried as a printed QR code, thus ending the EU-wide patchwork of different entry requirements. It is now important that the EU Covid certificate is followed by a globally recognized solution in order to give aviation a full boost again. After all, traveling is a basic need. People long for new experiences and to see family, friends and business partners again," emphasizes Alexis von Hoensbroech. Last but not least, transatlantic air traffic is a driving economic factor - and a perspective for travel facilitation is therefore essential. An international Covid certificate for entry would give aviation an important boost and enable a return to more flight connections and a service at pre-crisis levels.

Belavia will no longer fly to Vienna in the future

A plane landed in Vienna on Wednesday. But now the Belarusian airline is putting flights to Austria on hold in the conflict over the forced landing of a passenger plane in Minsk. Other EU countries are also affected. Several European countries announced take-off and landing bans immediately after the incident. This did not seem to bother the airline much, and until recently it continued to fly to Vienna-Schwechat. This was also legal, because the Austrian capital airport was still waiting for the formal regulation from the EU Commission. But the state-owned Belavia was one step ahead of the ministry. On Thursday, the airline Belavia itself stopped flights to Austria. Frankfurt, Berlin, Hanover and Munich would also no longer be served with immediate effect, according to the ORF. A total of seven countries are affected - in addition to Austria, Germany, Poland, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain and Belgium. The flights are suspended for the time being until the end of October, and tickets can be returned or exchanged. However, there are still direct flights from Russia, other former Soviet republics and Turkey to the Belarusian capital Minsk.

Moscow gives in: AUA gets the flight permit

The Russian authorities today granted AUA permission for an alternative flight route from Vienna to Moscow that does not go over Belarusian airspace. AUA can therefore operate today's planned flight OS601/602 from Vienna to Moscow and back. This is reported by the ORF, among others. Approval for the alternative route is still pending for the other planned passenger flights to Moscow and the cargo flights to Nanjing in China. However, the Lufthansa subsidiary is also expecting positive feedback from the Russian authorities here. "Important and correct signal" Aviation State Secretary Magnus Brunner (ÖVP) described the fact that AUA has received approval for today's flight to Moscow as an "important and correct signal". "It is in the Austrian and Russian interest that all flights to and over Russia are carried out without problems," said Brunner in a press release.

Tui: More hotel management instead of real estate ownership

Tui is sharpening its focus in its long-term partnership with Riu: In the future, the collaboration will be even more clearly focused on brand, hotel management and sales. As part of this focus, the Riu family is taking over Tui's minority shares in a previously jointly held real estate portfolio with 19 existing properties and two properties under construction. The core of the long-term strategic hotel partnership continues to be the 50:50 joint venture with 100 hotels and resorts worldwide. This joint company will continue to manage and sell all RIU hotels and resorts worldwide - including the 21 properties that will become fully owned by the Riu family in the future. Tui is thus strengthening its core business with holiday experiences - and in particular the development, operation and marketing of hotel and holiday brands. The group wants to grow primarily with its international hotel brands Tui Blue, RIU, Robinson, Tui Magic Life and the management of these hotels, but in the future it will tie up less capital in land and its own properties. The company had already initiated this so-called "asset right" strategy in December 2019 before Corona. The aim is to decouple growth in hotels and cruise ships from investments. The Supervisory Board of TUI AG approved this real estate transaction today. It has a total volume of 670 million euros - this means that an extremely attractive valuation could be agreed for the portfolio with 19 properties and two properties under construction. The proceeds are to be used to reduce the group's Corona debts. "We are separating hotel management and the holiday experience from real estate ownership, as we announced at the end of 2019. This is a business model that has proven successful in the international city hotel sector.

Groundbreaking ceremony for the new flight police station in Wiener Neustadt

Yesterday, the foundation stone was laid for the construction of the new air police operations center in Wiener Neustadt in the presence of Governor Johanna Mikl-Leitner and Federal Minister Karl Nehammer. The police are an important partner in the Lower Austrian security family, said the Governor. Cooperation in Lower Austria works on demand. Mikl-Leitner also thanked the state of Lower Austria and the Ministry of the Interior for the good cooperation. It is a "day of joy and satisfaction" that the air police operations center is being built in Wiener Neustadt. The air police are setting European standards here. Federal Minister Karl Nehammer is convinced that security can only be achieved if there is a functioning cooperation. The anti-terror unit is also located at the air police headquarters in Wiener Neustadt. Since November 3 of last year, we have known how important such forces are. "Every police officer makes an important contribution to security in the country," said the Federal Minister of the Interior. Hangars for helicopters as well as offices and a large workshop for maintenance are being built on the approximately 6.800 square meter area at the Cobra site.

ÖAMTC survey shows: one in four is still waiting for the summer

This year, too, long-term vacation planning was hardly possible due to the coronavirus pandemic and the associated travel restrictions. With this year's travel monitoring, the mobility club wanted to find out what specific vacation plans Austrians have for the summer and what they will do differently when traveling from now on. A key result: "Spontaneity is also necessary this year: one in four people who want to travel is making their summer vacation dependent on the corona situation and wants to wait and see how the situation develops - that's ten percent more than in 4," explains ÖAMTC tourism expert Magdalena Draxler. "At the time of the survey in early/mid-May, only 2020 percent had already booked their planned main summer vacation. Among families with children, every second person had already made a decision." However, the majority of those surveyed were also confident that their vacation would take place in the planned form - a third, on the other hand, were rather pessimistic. But summer holidays in themselves are very popular, with 40 percent of Austrians planning at least a break of several days between June and September. The yearning for the sea seems to be particularly strong this year - 72 percent of those surveyed are aiming for a visit to the beach, closely followed by a vacation at the lake or in the mountains. Family visits or active vacations were only mentioned in fourth and fifth place respectively.

STR receives TÜV seal for corona protection standards

Stuttgart Airport has been awarded the "Tested Infection Protection COVID-19" seal by TÜV Hessen for its hygiene and protective measures against corona. By awarding the seal of approval, TÜV Hessen has now confirmed that all requirements for protection against infection with the SARS-CoV-2 virus are met at the state airport. Around one hundred requirements had to be met to provide proof, according to the airport. These include consistent instructions on social distancing and the obligation to wear masks in all areas of the terminal and the provision of hygiene dispensers for passengers, visitors and employees, as well as technical specifications from the ventilation of the terminal buildings to the cleaning of critical areas and facilities. The TÜV Hessen seal of approval not only assesses preventive protection for passengers and everyone who works at the airport, but also regular training in hygiene and monitoring compliance with rules are included in the quality seal. "The official proof now confirms that the overall concept that the airport has developed and implemented enables passengers to travel as safely as possible and employees to work safely," the press release states.

Tunisair Cargo: First ATR72 converted into freighters

The airline Tunisair will enter the cargo business under the Tunisair Cargo brand. To do this, two ATR 72-500s, which were previously operated by Tunisair Express, will initially be converted into freighters. The first aircraft will be the TS-LBE, which was used by Tunisair Express for passenger flights until February 2020. According to CH-Aviation.com, the turboprop aircraft was converted into a freighter in France and arrived in Tunis a few days ago. An identical aircraft is currently being converted. Tunisair Cargo will start without its own AOC. It will use the services of Tunisair and Tunisair Express. Transport Minister Moez Chakchouk announced in February 2021 that the group's cargo unit will start with two ATR72-500s and an unspecified narrowbody. The aircraft come from the group's inventory and will be converted accordingly. It has not yet been decided whether an Airbus A320 or a Boeing 737-600 will be converted in the jet sector.
