Helvetic Airways is now flying from Basel

Two of the Swiss airline's Embraer aircraft will be in service at Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg Airport from July 10. Helvetic Airways has announced three new summer destinations: Santorini, Jerez and Larnaca. The gradual easing of entry restrictions in EU countries, the impending introduction of the Covid certificate and progress in vaccinations have contributed to a significant increase in demand for holiday destinations, the statement said. "With the arrival of Helvetic Airways, new, attractive holiday destinations will be served from EuroAirport, with quieter and fuel-efficient aircraft of the new generation," said Matthias Suhr, Director of EuroAirport. Helvetic boss Tobias Pogorevc also has the right words: "With the destinations Santorini, Jerez and Larnaca as well as flights to the Balkans, we are completing the offer from EuroAirport in a unique way, with particularly attractive departure times at weekends."

Innsbruck: Tui with six charter flights per week

The travel group Tui is starting the summer season with six rotations from Innsbruck. The first charter flight was carried out on June 4, 2021 with the destination Heraklion. The tour operator says it has seen an increase in booking numbers since the federal government announced that travel restrictions would be relaxed. This year, in addition to Crete, Rhodes, Kos, Mallorca and now also Calabria are on offer. On Saturdays, Eurowings Europe flies from Innsbruck to Palma de Mallroca on behalf of Tui. "Immediately after the travel restrictions were relaxed, bookings increased sharply. Our first flights to Crete at the beginning of June were fully booked within a few days," says Gottfried Math, Managing Director of Tui Austria. Crete is to be flown to twice a week, while a weekly charter rotation is planned for Kos and Rhodes. Calabria and Mallorca will each be served once a week by Eurowings Europe aircraft. "Passengers who book a flight from Innsbruck particularly enjoy the short distances and waiting times. A relaxed start to the holiday but also a longer-lasting holiday feeling, especially when you come home, are guaranteed. These are plus points that are priceless," says airport director Marco Pernetta. Tui and Innsbruck Airport are looking positively to the next few months. "The progress in vaccinations and improved testing options are laying the foundation for safe travel. We expect that there will be a strong catch-up effect, especially in the summer months, and that planes on many routes will be fully booked quickly during the summer holidays," says Gottfried Math. Deputy airport director Patrick Dierich confirms: "Everyone is longing for a holiday and a break after a year that has been very challenging for everyone. We

Air Baltic perceives an increase in demand

Since June 12, the airline has been connecting the capital of Latvia with the Greek island once a week. The new route is being operated in cooperation with the tour operator Mouzenidis Travel. Thanks to the ongoing vaccination campaigns, more and more new connections can be started from Riga just in time for the summer months, says Air Baltic boss Martin Gauss. The airline is also feeling the upswing on the plane: last month, Air Baltic says it welcomed 37 percent more guests on board. In general: "As vaccination progresses, our customers' desire to travel also increases." Destinations on the Mediterranean and European cities in particular are becoming more popular.

Pilatus: Hansueli Loosli elected as new President

At the Pilatus Annual General Meeting, Hansueli Loosli was elected as the new Chairman of the Board of Directors. The Annual General Meeting also elected two further members: Martin P. Furrer and Mario Rossi. Long-standing Chairman of the Board of Directors Oscar J. Schwenk had decided not to stand for re-election as Chairman of the Board of Directors this year. After more than 76 years, the 15-year-old will hand over his work as Chairman of the Board of Directors to his successor. His successor has already been chosen: Hansueli Loosli, former Chairman of the Board of Directors of Coop and Swisscom. He has already been trained and will take up his duties at Pilatus with immediate effect. “I am delighted to be able to appoint Hansueli Loosli, an extremely experienced person, to the office of Chairman of the Board of Directors. The other two members will also be an ideal addition with their expertise. Our Board members and our investors will continue to drive forward our current strategy as an independent Swiss aircraft manufacturer. Our common goal is to further strengthen Pilatus’ market leadership and to sustainably secure the more than 2000 jobs at the Stans site,” said Oscar J. Schwenk about the new appointment.

From July 1, 2021: Germany is redefining travel warnings

From July 1, 2021, Germany will redesign the current system of travel warnings. In the future, there will no longer be a blanket advice against tourist travel, but the "deterrent" warning will only be issued if the seven-day incidence is above 200. At the moment, Germany's federal government issues travel warnings from a seven-day incidence of 50, although it sometimes takes a long time to lift them. Most recently, the whole of Austria was removed from the "red list". Areas and states that are defined by the state Robert Koch Institute as so-called virus variant areas are not affected by the change. A travel warning will be issued for these even if the seven-day incidence is below 200 per 100.000 inhabitants. Ultimately, the change has consequences for both travel insurance holders and package travelers: many insurance companies do not provide cover if the German federal government has issued a travel warning for the destination country. The change means that there will no longer be such a travel warning for around 100 countries, which is why insurance companies can no longer invoke this reason for exclusion. For package holidaymakers, the consequence is rather unpleasant, because if there is a travel warning, travellers can usually cancel their booking free of charge. The abolition of the government measure means that short-term cancellations citing the travel warning will no longer be possible free of charge, as there will no longer be one for many countries from July 1, 2021.

Fraport traffic figures are slowly recovering

Despite the continuing massive impact of the CoV pandemic, passenger numbers are beginning to show an upward trend: Frankfurt Airport counted around 1,25 million passengers in May. Still, that's an increase of 356,9 percent. However, the same month last year showed a very low comparison value, as air traffic largely came to a standstill last spring as a result of the rising number of infections, the airport company reports. Compared to May 2019, passenger numbers continued to decline significantly by 80,0 percentage points. Cargo volume continued to increase despite the continued lack of capacity from the belly cargo in passenger aircraft, achieving an increase of 27,2 percent to 204.233 tons (plus 10,0 percent compared to May 2019). With 16.977 takeoffs and landings, the number of flight movements increased by 2020 percent compared to May 118,7. The total maximum take-off weights increased by 66,2 percent to 1,29 million tons. The Group's airports also recorded growth. At the airport in Ljubljana, Slovenia, passenger volume rose to 14.943 passengers in May. The Brazilian airports in Fortaleza and Porto Alegre recorded 415.866 passengers. Lima Airport in Peru recorded 738.398 passengers in the reporting month. The 14 Greek regional airports recorded 472.937 passengers. Passenger volume at the Bulgarian Twin Star Airports Burgas increased to 44.013 passengers. Antalya Airport in Turkey recorded 719.254 passengers. At the airport in St. Petersburg, Russia, volume rose to more than 1,5 million passengers. Xi'an Airport in China recorded an increase to around 3,9 million passengers.

Entry: Portugal now also accepts rapid tests

To enter Portugal, it is now sufficient to present a negative rapid antigen test result that is no older than 24 hours. Until now, the government has required PCR tests, although there have been exceptions in a few regions. On Friday, the Portuguese Council of Ministers made the corresponding decision. Austria currently has Portugal on the list of Annex A states, so that upon return with the so-called 3G rule, you can enter the country without quarantine. Germany only considers the area around Lisbon and the Azores as so-called risk areas.

From July 1, 2021: Jet2 takes off again on a small scale

The British airline Jet2 plans to resume its flight operations from July 1, 2021. The carrier had actually wanted to be back in the air a long time ago, but the restart was postponed due to the unclear situation regarding the UK government's traffic light travel system. The low-cost airline, which specializes in leisure routes, did not hold back in criticizing the decisions of the British government in various media releases. Most recently, the fact that Portugal was moved to the so-called Amber List despite low infection rates caused criticism in the airline and tourism industry. In Malta, too, people are increasingly questioning why a stay in the Mediterranean state still triggers quarantine when returning to the UK. The United Kingdom's traffic light travel system is quite tedious, because even vaccinated people have to present a negative test when staying in a green state. If the area is on the Amber List, quarantine must also be undertaken. If the state is listed in red, entry is only possible under certain circumstances and then combined with isolation in a hotel. All costs for testing and/or quarantine are to be borne by the traveller. Jet2 will initially only operate a few routes, as most destinations are on the Amber or Red List. The company assumes that there is little demand for holiday destinations that trigger quarantine on return. The following countries are currently on the United Kingdom's Amber List: Andorra, Austria, Belgium, Canada, China, Croatia, Cyprus, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece (including islands), Malta, Monaco, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden and Switzerland. The following countries are on the Green List: Australia, Brunei, the

25 million euros: Albastar applies for state aid

The Spanish airline Albastar has applied for financial support of 25 million euros from the state fund Sepi. This sum is needed to stabilize the company's liquidity, reports the daily newspaper El Economista. The carrier, based at Palma de Mallorca airport, was only able to transport 3.000 passengers to/from Spain last year. Before the crisis, the figure was 158.000 travelers. Albastar is majority owned by Italian investors and operates five Boeing 737-800s and one B737-400. So far, the Spanish airlines Air Nostrum, Plus Ultra, Wamos Air, Iberojet (formerly Evelop) and Air Europa have applied for or in some cases already received state aid from the Sepi fund. This would put Albastar in a whole series of airlines that have been stabilized through Sepi.
