Laudamotion: Andreas Gruber now sole managing director

There has been a change in management at the former airline Laudamotion. David O'Brien, who heads the sister companies Lauda Europe and Malta Air, is no longer managing director of the Austrian company. Laudamotion GmbH has not been an airline since the end of last year, as the AOC and operating license were returned to the Austrian authorities. The Airbus fleet was handed over to the then newly founded Lauda Europe Ltd. This now acts as an ACMI and charter provider under a Maltese license. According to its own information, Laudamotion GmbH provides aviation-related services within the Ryanair Group. Neither David O'Brien nor Andreas Gruber wanted to explain in more detail what this means. According to the mandatory publication in the official gazette of the Wiener Zeitung, the latter manager now acts as sole managing director. Andreas Gruber was appointed to the top of the company when Niki Lauda was still the owner. The three-time Formula 1 world champion also acted as managing director himself at the beginning, but left this role after the company was completely sold to Ryanair. The Irish group initially assigned Gruber to Colin Casey, later Choorah Singh and then David O'Brien. Andreas Fritthum briefly served as financial director, but he left the company in spring 2020. In terms of management, there is now a clear separation between Laudamotion GmbH, which is no longer an airline, and Lauda Europe Ltd, because Andreas Gruber is not a member of the Board of Directors of the Maltese airline. O'Brien, on the other hand, has left the management of Laudamotion.

The official app for the Green Pass is now available in the App Store

It's finally here: the government is launching the first official app for the Green Pass. The application is initially only available in the App Store. To mark the launch of EU-compliant certificates within the European Union, the Federal Ministry of Social Affairs, Health, Care and Consumer Protection, in collaboration with the Federal Computing Center GmbH, is making the Green Pass available to all citizens free of charge as a digital application. This is an app that allows storage and secure handling on the smartphone and easy presentation of EU-compliant certificates including a QR code when entering and traveling within the European Union. "The Green Pass was implemented step by step. We started with the individual certificates, and an app is now available to mark the EU-wide launch. Since the Green Pass certificates contain particularly sensitive health data, we had to observe strict legal framework conditions when developing the app. My department has not only a health policy mandate, but also a socio-political mandate for data protection. I am pleased that with the 'Green Pass' app we can now present an application that guarantees the best possible protection of health data," explains Health Minister Wolfgang Mückstein. No storage of health data in the cloud The new app solution stores and processes the data of the EU-compliant certificates exclusively offline, i.e. only on the end user's mobile phone. Only essential information is then displayed in the app, such as first name, last name, COVID-19 vaccine and the EU-compliant QR code. The certificates are stored in a cloud, as is usually the case with app solutions.

Bulgaria makes entry easier - 3G proof required

With the launch of the EU-wide digital vaccination pass, Bulgaria is also opening its borders in compliance with the 3G rules known here (tested, recovered, vaccinated). The government divides the world into three zones - depending on the infection situation. Austria and most EU countries belong to the green zone, which does not include any risk areas. Accordingly, one of the three proofs is sufficient to enter the Black Sea country without any restrictions. Holidaymakers must take into account that only valid PCR tests are accepted as proof. A simple rapid test is not enough. The vaccination campaigns, on the other hand, are only running moderately. Only 11,6 percent of the population enjoys complete protection, as tip-online.at reports.

Bremen: Eurowings is now flying to Pristina

After Stuttgart and Mallorca, the airline has now started its third route from Bremen. Every Wednesday there will now be a flight to Pristina, the capital of Kosovo. An Airbus A320 will be used on the flights. Pristina is still a European capital off the beaten tourist track, there are larger and more well-known metropolises - but discovering something unknown and new has its own special appeal, says the airport. The capital of Europe's youngest state is still an insider tip among city trips, but no less interesting. Eurowings flies every Wednesday from Bremen and Tradeair on Mondays and Fridays.

Smartlynx Malta is getting four more A321PCFs

The Smartlynx Group is focusing on further growth in the freight sector and will further expand the fleet of the Maltese subsidiary, which has been converted into a cargo specialist. For this purpose, four Airbus A321Fs, which are currently registered at the Latvian AOC, will be converted into freighters. Smartlynx Airlines (Latvia) currently has seven Airbus A321s at the AOC. According to a statement from the group, the aircraft with the registrations YL-LDA, YL-LDB, YL-LCZ and YL-LCX will be converted into freighters by Elbe Flugzeugwerke in Germany and will be operated as cargo aircraft by Smartlynx Malta from the end of 2021. This is the group's internal competence center for cargo and is used on behalf of DHL from Leipzig/Halle and Linz, among others. The first A9PCF, the 321H-CGA, was put into active scheduled service a few weeks ago. The contract with the logistics group DHL includes two aircraft of this type. Air Belgium swaps two A340-300s for A330neo

Four-engine aircraft are popular with many aviation fans, but not so much with airlines. Air Belgium is exchanging two of three Airbus A340-300s for A330neos. The aircraft manufacturer Airbus will continue to be the direct lessor. According to a press release, Air Belgium will put the first A330-900 into active scheduled service on October 15, 2021. Both A330-900s are to be taken over in autumn 2021. These are aircraft that were previously intended for the defunct airline Air Berlin. They were then supposed to go to Rwandair, but that didn't happen either. The two A330-900s will now find a home with Air Belgium. The carrier will operate the new arrivals with three classes of transport: Business, Premium Economy and Economy Class. Compared to the four-engine Airbus A340-300 aircraft currently in use, the A330-900s are significantly more fuel efficient. "Air Belgium is very happy and proud to present these new aircraft in Belgium. They are the most modern aircraft that will fly under the Belgian flag. We are very pleased with our experience in operating the Airbus A340, which has demonstrated reliability, comfort and performance. With the A330neos, customers will directly benefit from even more comfort and first-class service on board, while reducing our environmental impact by 25 percent," said Air Belgium CEO Niky Terzakis.

“Green Pass” is live – Lowcost carrier Wizz Air delights

Since July 1, 2021, the so-called "Green Pass" has been live within the European Union and the participating states of Liechtenstein, Switzerland, Iceland and Norway. With the so-called EU certificates, travelers can prove their status as vaccinated, recovered or tested. However, only the technology in the background is in operation, because the controls are still manual in almost all countries. This means that you cannot scan the QR code yourself, but must still show it to personnel from the executive branch, the health service or, in Austria, the federal army. In some places, the barcodes are not scanned at all because the employees have not yet been given the appropriate devices. Nevertheless, the Hungarian low-cost airline Wizz Air welcomes the introduction of the "Green Pass", which is actually not green at all, but white with a barcode. "Wizz Air will continue to support any initiative that works to simplify the rules and travel," explains Andras Rado, the company's press spokesman. "It is important for our passengers to have clear and unambiguous guidelines for their travels so that they can visit friends and relatives again, go on business or vacation trips and return home without worries." However, the new certificate does not replace the travel documents that were previously required. In Germany, it is issued in vaccination centers and pharmacies. If the vaccination was a long time ago, there are different regulations in the federal states. In Austria, the certificates can be accessed via the Internet using a mobile phone signature. They are also delivered by post. The City of Vienna sends the certificate to people who have been vaccinated in Vienna and have been tested at some point before.
