NRW: Eurowings increases capacity to two thirds

The summer holidays begin today in the German federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia. The largest provider at Düsseldorf Airport is the Lufthansa subsidiary Eurowings. It offers around 70 destinations. The most common flight is to Palma de Mallorca, as up to ten flights a day have been announced to this destination. "People finally want to travel again - and we are ready. After the long period of lockdown, we as the Eurowings team are looking forward to flying more and more guests to their holiday destinations safely, reliably and with the best possible service," says Jens Ritter, Chief Operating Officer of Eurowings. "We have used the time and prepared extensively for the restart in recent months to give our guests a pleasant start to their vacation." With an increasing vaccination rate, falling infection numbers and the lifting of travel restrictions, the demand for flights is increasing significantly. Tourist destinations are particularly in demand - above all Mallorca, Greece, the Canary Islands and Croatia. Eurowings has responded to this by gradually expanding its flight program and has increased the offer in Düsseldorf alone, the largest Eurowings location, by another 40 percent during the holidays. Eurowings offers around 70 destinations in 20 countries from Düsseldorf. From Cologne/Bonn there are 60 destinations in 18 countries. On the first holiday weekend, the carrier expects around 25.000 passengers in the state capital and 13.000 in Cologne. 4.000 Eurowings flights will take place in Düsseldorf during the holiday season, almost 2.000 flights in Cologne. Even if Eurowings will offer a large part of its original route portfolio again over the course of the summer, the 2021 summer program will only last around two

Fraport is reorganizing security tasks

Fraport AG is reorganizing its subsidiary Fraport Security Services GmbH. With effect from July 1, 2021, the operational business areas of aviation security, airport security and services were combined for a specific purpose and spun off into three newly founded subsidiaries. As a result, the control services in accordance with Section 5 of the Aviation Security Act are carried out by FraSec Luftsicherheit GmbH. Those that fall under Paragraphs 8 and 9 as well as classic security tasks are now carried out by FraSec Flughafensicherheit GmbH. The agendas from the service area are now located in FraSec Services GmbH. Tasks and personnel of the central departments and the FraSec Academy remain in the parent company FraSec Fraport Security Services GmbH. The new subsidiaries will initially be 100 percent owned by FraSec Fraport Security Services GmbH. However, the new corporate structure offers the opportunity for cooperation in order to further strengthen the respective area where it makes sense. “Many companies, especially in aviation, have been forced by the corona pandemic to question their own structures and business models. We have therefore looked very closely at the question of how the company can be strategically sensibly and sustainably positioned. The restructuring of the FraSec Group is an essential step in meeting our responsibility towards our approximately 4.000 employees and in securing the profitability and competitiveness of the entire group in the long term," explains Martin Budweth, Chairman of the FraSec Management Board. In addition, the reorganization was also necessary due to the transfer of control in the area of passenger screening agreed between Fraport AG and the Federal Ministry of the Interior, Building and Home Affairs (BMI). From January 1st

Charity: Lufthansa employees auction works of art

More and more Lufthansa Group employees are volunteering for a good cause at Help Alliance. They also use their artistic and/or musical skills. Thanks to this creative support, the Lufthansa Group's aid organization can increasingly achieve more in its projects to give children, teenagers and young adults access to education. Help Alliance is now starting the summer with two very special employee campaigns. An acrylic painting "Amazonas" painted by Simone von Anhalt will be auctioned off. She works for Lufthansa and is also an active artist. 50 percent of the proceeds will go to Help Alliance for the aid project "Boxing against a lack of prospects" in São Lourenço da Mata, Brazil. It aims to offer children and young people an alternative to boredom, crime and a lack of prospects through sports, music and educational activities. Simone von Anhalt herself lived in Brazil for several years in her youth. Her profound experiences gave rise to a deep desire to support street children from the poorest regions of Brazil. Marika Hinkey, Lufthansa flight attendant and singer, and Martin Heumüller, Lufthansa captain and pianist, are also volunteers at Help Alliance. In 2020, they launched a musical project and produced the song “Let's Get Together to Help the World” together with socially disadvantaged children from the “Language Support for Children with a Migration Background” project in Flörsheim near Frankfurt and many prominent musicians for Help Alliance. In order to let all listeners share in the story of how the song came about, a making-of documentary was developed that gives insights into the production of the song and

Munich is expanding its lounge offering again

Life is slowly but surely returning to Munich Airport. There are currently an average of 400 take-offs and landings per day. These are used by around 30.000 travelers. The shopping and dining options have been gradually ramped up again. In both terminals, in the Munich Airport Center (MAC) and in the visitor park, a total of more than 20 restaurants and bars, around 45 shops and six car rental companies have opened. In view of the increasing traffic, Munich Airport is once again becoming a popular location for new and innovative retail and catering concepts: The "Hard Rock Cafe Munich Airport Rock Shop" is opening in the MAC (Level 03 at the transition to T1). Rock music fans can stock up on the world-famous collectors' items and memorabilia from the Hard Rock Cafe. There has also been an attractive new addition to the airport's catering since May: "dean&david", a Munich-based company that stands for healthy food, high-quality ingredients and sustainable consumption, offers salads, bowls and smoothies, among other things, in Terminal 2, Level 04 after the security check. In addition, passengers are now offered a new service in "MyDutyFree" in Terminal 2, Level 04: In a "hospitality area" equipped with a counter and chairs, customers can get information and advice about products in a relaxed atmosphere. Passengers who want an exclusive service can also use the lounges in the recently reopened Terminal 1 - temporarily with limited opening hours. The Airport Lounge Europe (Module D) is open daily from 5:00 a.m. to 13:30 p.m., the Airport Lounge World (Module B) daily from 10:00 a.m. to

Comment: Green-washed 737-300 and shopping in your sleep - is it still possible?

In recent days, there have been some very strange aspects of aviation. For example, the charter company markets flights that are carried out with almost 30-year-old Boeing 737-300s as environmentally friendly and "green", or at Lauda, the base supervisor responsible for Vienna has presumably forgotten that he works for an airline and not for a sales team or a secret service. Green Airlines is - contrary to what the name suggests - not an airline, because it has no AOC and no operating license. It charters aging aircraft and markets the seats on its own account. Through "greenwashing" in marketing, the Embraer 190, Airbus A319 and even almost 30-year-old Boeing 737-300 are presented as "green". No one can verify the alleged compensation and projects that are presented on the website. Remarkably, the company, which has its headquarters in Karlsruhe with a relevant mailbox provider, has not said a word for a long time about what it is doing so well for the environment. Provider changes "flight partners" like underwear It is striking that this charter company changes the airlines it charters like underwear. Air Alsie was supposed to fly initially, but reportedly pulled out before the first flight. Chalair did fly a few legs between Karlsruhe and Sylt, before PAD Aviation flew with business jets for a short time and then German Airways with Embraer 190. Now on Thursday, an almost 30-year-old Boeing 737-300 from the Bulgarian ALK Air arrived. This type of aircraft is a real gas guzzler and in no way

Salzburg celebrates comebacks from Hamburg and Istanbul

Salzburg Airport is now connected to Istanbul and Hamburg again. The airport sees the comeback of Turkish Airlines and the resumption of flights by Eurowings as a clear ray of hope on the horizon. Authorized officer Christopher Losmann said: "Finally, the airlines are gradually coming back to Salzburg. While in recent weeks they were our holiday destinations, our hub and city connections are now starting up again. As of today, there are direct flights to Istanbul 10 times a week and to Hamburg 4 times a week." The updated entry regulations, which allow vaccinated, recovered and tested people from significantly more countries to enter without quarantine, are viewed positively at Salzburg Airport. It is assumed that this will "do a lot of good" for tourism in Austria and the EU. "The adjustment of the entry regulations makes it easier for passengers from third countries, such as Saudi Arabia or Turkey, to come back to Austria and, conversely, business travel destinations are being filled with life again. Now it's full speed ahead for us and for the people of Salzburg and Bavaria: book your flights and fly from Salzburg," says Losmann.

Current notice: Entry into Croatia only with proof

Croatia, which is very popular with holidaymakers, has changed its entry regulations without any lead time. With immediate effect, the Green Pass must be presented at border control. Alternatively, negative test results or proof of vaccination or recovery can be used. The change comes as a surprise and is a real shock to holidaymakers arriving by land, as local media reports say there have already been hours-long waits at border crossings. According to the Croatian police, the following proof must be presented upon entry with immediate effect. These are to be checked without gaps during border controls, which are carried out as standard in Croatia anyway due to the fact that the country is not a Schengen member: EU vaccination certificate ("Green Pass") EU recovery certificate ("Green Pass") EU antigen test certificate ("Green Pass"), no more than 48 hours old EU PCR test certificate ("Green Pass"), no more than 72 hours old Antigen test result, no more than 48 hours old PCR test result, no more than 72 hours old Proof of vaccination, e.g. vaccination certificate or certificate of official proof of recovery People entering Croatia must be able to present at least one of the above-mentioned documents. Neighbouring countries have criticized the procedure, saying that information was provided at such short notice that no preparations could be made. Previously, Croatia allowed all citizens from EU member states with low incidences to enter the country without any conditions or testing requirements. This was changed at short notice without prior notice to the detriment of holidaymakers. The “Croatia case” shows once again that travellers should always inform themselves about the current entry regulations for their destination country, especially shortly before departure. These can change at very short notice – Green Passport
