England: End of quarantine for vaccinated people is approaching

The British government seems to want to put an end to the quarantine requirement. The new regulation will initially only apply to England. Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland decide on their own corona measures. Accordingly, travelers from countries on the British government's "yellow" travel list, such as Germany, will be able to enter England again from July 19 without the existing obligation to self-isolate, reports reisevor9.de, citing British media. However, the prerequisite is that they can provide proof of a full corona vaccination. As part of this, London's Heathrow Airport even wants to test the accelerated processing of arriving travelers with proof of vaccination in a trial run. Anyone who can provide proof of full vaccination against the coronavirus on selected flights will be allowed to go through a separate queue for passport control.

June: Air Baltic carries 70 percent more passengers

The Latvian airline welcomed exactly 114.700 passengers on board last month, spread across 1.780 flights. This means that Air Baltic can make significant gains - compared to the same period in 2020, this corresponds to an increase of 90 percentage points. Nevertheless, under normal circumstances, the airline would be talking about very different numbers. The pre-crisis level for the month of June would have been reached with just over 205.000 passengers, the carrier announced on Thursday. "Many travelers had to wait a long time to finally be able to travel safely again. We expect an upward trend in passenger numbers," said Air Baltic CEO Martin Gauss.

USA is not thinking of easing travel rules

While European countries are currently dropping entry requirements, Americans are taking it more slowly. The US government is not planning to lift travel restrictions early. As a White House spokesman told the Reuters news agency, they do not want to give in to the growing pressure from US business groups and some lawmakers for the time being: "We have made tremendous progress in our vaccination efforts, as have many other countries, but we want to make sure that we move consciously and are in a position to reopen international travel in a sustainable manner when it is safe to do so." This is reported by the aviation portal Aero.

Lufthansa gets fresh capital

AUA's parent company, which has been hit hard by the Corona crisis, has once again raised one billion euros in fresh money on the capital market. The bond consists of two tranches of 500 million euros each, the MDax-listed airline announced on Wednesday evening after the stock market closed. The first tranche, with an annual interest rate of 2,0 percent, runs until 2024. The second tranche runs until 2029 with an annual interest rate of 3,5 percent. Lufthansa wants to use the newly raised money to strengthen its liquidity. "We are continuing to work consistently on our restructuring measures in order to repay the state stabilization measures as quickly as possible," said CFO Remco Steenbergen, according to the statement. The governments of Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Belgium had promised Lufthansa financial aid of nine billion euros last year in view of the business slump as a result of the pandemic, thus saving the group from economic ruin. Lufthansa is also continuing to prepare for a capital increase in order to repay the state aid it has received. However, the Management Board and Supervisory Board have not yet made a decision on the scope and timing, it was now said.

Lufthansa Cityline is to become an A321P2F operator

Lufthansa CEO Carsten Spohr announced a few days ago that narrowbodies could be purchased again for cargo. However, it is becoming apparent that these will not be operated by Lufthansa Cargo, but by its sister company Cityline. Lufthansa Cargo is investing in expanding its cargo capacity. From the beginning of 2022, the company will offer its customers additional capacity in Europe by permanently converting Airbus 321 passenger aircraft into freighters. The twin-engine medium-haul aircraft will be given large cargo doors to enable containers to be transported on the main deck. The conversion of two Airbus aircraft is planned initially. These aircraft will be operated by Lufthansa CityLine on behalf of Lufthansa Cargo. They will be stationed in Frankfurt. "Lufthansa Cargo wants to offer customers fast intra-European connections in the eCommerce segment. With the converted A321s, we are meeting our customers' increasing demand for same-day services and further strengthening our dense network of global connections and our product range," said Dorothea von Boxberg, CEO of Lufthansa Cargo. "With the selected aircraft type, 28t can be transported per flight, which is considerably larger cargo volumes than in the bellies of short-haul aircraft. In addition to freight forwarders, integrators and postal companies, eCommerce providers will be customers for this offer," continued von Boxberg. "With over 60 years of experience in European air traffic, Lufthansa CityLine stands for reliable and efficient operations as an important partner in the Lufthansa Group. Flexibility in operations and speed in identifying and implementing new opportunities are the basis of our business. We want to use these qualities to support Lufthansa Cargo and its customers," says Steffen Harbarth, Managing Director of
