Munich: Police arrest “fake flight attendant” outside the airport

In Bavaria, an 18-year-old son apparently wanted to go on a trip wearing his father's uniform and car. The trip came to an early end, however, because the police stopped the tour at Munich Airport. It is not clear what prompted the young man to drive to the airport wearing a "borrowed" flight attendant uniform and his father's "borrowed" car. In any case, the family had reported both their son and the vehicle to the police as missing. The "young flight attendant" never made it to the airport, because he was caught in the driveway during a police check. It is suspected that he wanted to take a flight using his father's uniform, but this possible plan was thwarted by the police. While the real flight attendant (father) will not face any consequences, the police are investigating the son for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. The father can now only hope that after a serious conversation, the father will not press charges and that the public prosecutor will then show mercy and simply drop the case or issue a warning.

Half-year figures: Rolls-Royce reports black figures

The engine manufacturer Rolls-Royce was able to post a profit of around 2021 pounds sterling in the first half of 393. In the previous year, the group posted a loss of 5,4 billion pounds. Sales fell by nine percent to 5,2 billion pounds. Rolls-Royce is particularly suffering from the fact that it is strongly represented in the long-haul business and has made many power-by-the-hour deals. Due to the fact that there is still significantly less flying, revenue has continued to fall. The engine manufacturer expects sales to increase in the second half of 2021 and to return to 2019 levels next year. Nevertheless, the company wants to improve its coffers by selling subsidiaries.

A380: BA extends maintenance contract with Lufthansa Technik

British Airways appears to be relying on the Airbus A380 aircraft type in the long term, as a corresponding maintenance contract with Lufthansa Technik was prematurely extended until at least 2027. This includes base maintenance for the 12 superjumbos of the IAG subsidiary. Kranich boss Carsten Spohr has repeatedly stated that he thinks it is unlikely that Lufthansa will use the A380 aircraft again. British Airways continues to trust in this model and wants to get it back in the air. It could even become the only European operator of the Airbus A380. However, BA boss Doyle has not yet announced a specific date for the re-use of the largest member of the fleet. He simply stressed that it is an important part of British Airways and that the company will continue to rely on this model. In any case, the contract concluded with Lufthansa Technik can be interpreted as meaning that BA is serious.

Germany: North Rhine-Westphalia airports on the rise

The airports in Germany's most populous state, North Rhine-Westphalia, are again recording rising passenger numbers. Although they are not yet anywhere near the level of 2019, at least there are no further departures. According to a statement from the State Statistical Office, the six largest airports in North Rhine-Westphalia were used by around 2021 travelers in June 592.000. In the same month last year, there were around 430.000 fewer passengers. For comparison: in 2019, i.e. before Corona, there were 2,1 million passengers in the same month.

El Al: CoV tests on board

According to a media report, the airline EL AL is conducting a trial test on board a scheduled flight from New York to Tel Aviv for the coronavirus. The passengers are said to have completed the mandatory tests upon arrival at Ben Gurion Airport before landing, so that they no longer have to queue for them at the airport. The long queues in the airport building are considered a possible place where the coronavirus can spread. The voluntary pilot test will be carried out on an EL AL flight on Thursday from New York's JFK Airport to Tel Aviv with around 280 passengers. They will be tested either at the boarding gate or on the plane. Swabs will be taken from the mouth and throat. A test will cost 25 US dollars. EL AL emphasizes that the new test procedure does not replace the corona test that must be completed up to 72 hours before the flight. The airline nevertheless sees the new procedure as a possible "breakthrough for the future entry of tourists into Israel". First of all, however, stricter quarantine rules for people entering the country with an Israeli passport will come into force on August 11: If they enter the country from Germany, the USA and Greece, among others, regardless of whether they have been vaccinated or have recovered, they must be quarantined for at least one week after arrival.

“AUA deal worst deal in Austrian economic history”

"Jobs gone, the taxpayers pay for the losses and any future profits go to Lufthansa shareholders - the AUA deal by Blümel and Schmid is turning out to be the worst deal in Austrian economic history," said SPÖ finance spokesman Jan Krainer today, Thursday, about the announced further job cuts at AUA. The SPÖ had vehemently opposed supporting AUA with hundreds of millions of euros in taxpayers' money without participating in it and without demanding a job guarantee. "Now we are faced with the shambles of turquoise economic policy," Krainer told the SPÖ press service. Austrian taxpayers would now finance AUA's losses. If AUA makes a profit again in the future, it will go to Lufthansa shareholders, including the German state. Because Germany - unlike Austria - has secured a stake in the company in return for state aid to Lufthansa. "Thanks to Blümel and Schmid, Austria, on the other hand, only shares in AUA's losses, but not in any profits," criticizes the SPÖ finance spokesman. And "incidentally," hundreds of jobs are also being lost because the turquoise "economic experts" did not find it necessary to link state aid to a job guarantee. "The reason for this approach was either complete ignorance and lack of planning in terms of economic policy or deliberate harm to taxpayers for the benefit of shareholders. Both are unacceptable," Krainer concludes.

El Al starts corona tests above the clouds

Take a corona test during the flight? This is exactly what the airline El Al wants to offer in the future and is starting a pilot test on the New York JFK-Tel Aviv route. Passengers will be able to get tested shortly before boarding or during the flight. Currently, with a few exceptions, only Israel's own citizens can enter the country. Even fully vaccinated people must present a negative corona test or be tested before leaving the airport at the latest. In any case, the bottom line is that two tests must be completed. On El Al flights from New York JFK to Israel operated with Boeing 787-9, it will now be possible to take the PCR swab before boarding or during the flight. This means that no further test will have to be taken at Ben Gurion Airport. The carrier wants to save its passengers time in particular.

Frontier: Black numbers thanks to corona aid

The US low-cost airline Frontier announced that it had generated a net profit of 19 million US dollars in the second quarter of the current year. At the same time, it announced that the fleet would be expanded by ten Airbus A321s. These are used aircraft that are to be purchased through leasing companies. The additional jets are to be handed over from the middle of next year. If you take a closer look at Frontier Airlines' financial figures, it quickly becomes clear that the carrier was not quite as profitable. The net profit could only be reported because the US government paid out Corona support of 87 million euros during the same period.
