Germany: Entry requirements are often ignored

The Corona entry rules in Germany are apparently being ignored or even taken to the extreme by many people. Since January 2021, the Federal Police have been able to uncover around 150.000 violations, but it is assumed that the number of unreported cases is significantly higher. The executive authority initially gave the figure to the editorial network Germany. According to the Federal Police, there are major differences between land and air travel. Apparently, travelers feel particularly safe in their own car, for example, because this route accounts for the lion's share of 132.000 violations. The number of administrative offenses at airports is considerably lower. Last year, Mickey Mouse and Angela Merkel entered Germany in a particularly conspicuous manner. The "exit cards" at the time were often not filled out at all or were filled out with fake data. The electronic entry registration was supposed to provide a remedy, but this too is apparently often filled out with incorrect data or simply not filled out at all - especially by land. It should also be noted that Germany does not carry out systematic checks at airports. Only for short periods of time were the passports and identity cards of Schengen travelers primarily checked. Currently, the Federal Police only carries out random checks of Corona documents, so that many people are able to enter the Federal Republic without any checks. Before August 1, 2021, there was only an obligation to have a negative test result when traveling by air and sea. Fully vaccinated and recovered people were and are exempt from this. This obligation has only existed for land travel since August 1, 2021 and, according to the Federal Police, around 2.500 violations were already caught in the first week.

Regional Express and Virgin Australia leave 2.500 employees

Australia's so-called zero-Covid policy is having a significant impact on airlines. Following Qantas, Virgin Australia and Regional Express have now also announced temporary layoffs. Around 2.500 employees are affected, but they will be rehired later - if necessary. They can receive unemployment benefits for the period of their unemployment. Both carriers told local media that they have no other option given the current lockdown situation. The government imposes lockdowns on metropolises and entire regions even when there are only a few corona cases. Recently, there was a single positive test in a major city and a seven-day lockdown was immediately imposed. In Sydney, discontent is growing because, despite the fact that the population is only allowed to leave their homes for a few exceptions, the numbers are rising.

DR Congo: Motorcyclist crashes Dash 8-400

In the Democratic Republic of Congo, an absolutely unusual incident occurred on Saturday during the landing of the DHC Dash 8-400 with the registration 9S-AAN. The turboprop aircraft collided with a motorcyclist. According to official information, the motorcycle is scrap, but both the occupants of the turboprop aircraft and the driver are said to be fine. As a precaution, the man, who had obviously strayed onto the runway, was taken to hospital for examination. However, the green light was apparently given there. But how did a private motorcyclist actually end up on the runway at Lubumbashi Airport? That is exactly what the Prime Minister wants to know and has ordered a detailed investigation into the incident. Local media report that there is no fence around the airport area and that locals occasionally take a "shortcut". The Congo Airways plane suffered considerable damage as a result of the incident. These primarily affect the chassis and the nose of the DHC Dash 8-400. Most importantly, however, all passengers, crew members and the motorcyclist were very lucky in their misfortune.

ADAC: First H145 with five-blade rotor taken over

ADAC Air Rescue has taken delivery of the first two H145 helicopters with five-blade rotors. These are now being prepared for the needs of rescue missions. The existing fleet is also to be converted to five-blade rotors. The conversion affects a total of 14 helicopters. These are currently still equipped with four-blade rotors. Managing Director Frédéric Bruder emphasizes that the company is relying on the latest flight technology for rescue missions. According to Airbus Helicopters, the new rotor system should result in smoother flight characteristics and a reduction in vibrations. At the same time, the MTOW increases by 150 kilograms, which is of particular importance for ADAC Air Rescue. In the future, more personnel or additional equipment can be taken on board. If neither is needed, more fuel can be carried to increase the range. Airbus Helicopters estimates the possibility at up to 140 kilometers.

Catering: Do & Co reports positive EBIT

At first glance, the Austrian airline caterer Do&Co was able to increase significantly, but the management points out that the increase in sales in the first quarter of the current financial year is only due to the fact that air traffic almost completely came to a standstill in the same period last year. According to Do&Co, the financial figures are therefore not really comparable. This year, business has picked up again because the airlines, i.e. the caterer's customers, have gradually ramped up their route networks again. In the USA, Do&Co took over Delta Air Lines' in-flight service at its newly founded Detroit location in March 2021. With more than 400 daily departures in 2019, Detroit is one of the airline's largest and most important hubs in the USA. With American and Spirit Airlines, Do&Co already has three customers at the recently opened new location. In general, the catering company was able to benefit from the fact that demand for aviation in the United States of America picked up much earlier than in Europe. Do&Co was also able to win new customers as a result: Since mid-April 2021, the company has been preparing food for JetBlue's Business Class (Mint Class) in Los Angeles, San Diego and Palm Springs, as well as in New York. The catering on Jetblue's long-haul flights from Europe also comes from Do&Co. EBIT is positive again Since the beginning of June 2021, the company has been providing catering on board All Nippon Airways at the Frankfurt and Munich locations. After taking over all catering services for all Iberia and Iberia Express departures from Madrid-Barajas in

Afghanistan crisis: Lufthansa carries out special flights for the German government

Lufthansa is operating special flights from Tashkent and Doha to Germany on behalf of the German government with Airbus A340-300. On board are people who were flown out of Afghanistan by the German army and the air forces of other countries following the Taliban takeover. In a press release, Lufthansa wrote that it would set up an air bridge at short notice on behalf of the government to support the federal government in the evacuation. This means that Lufthansa can quickly and flexibly operate the first special flight from the Central Asian country, which no Lufthansa Group airline currently flies to regularly, within just a few hours. Traffic rights were applied for at short notice, crew deployment planning was carried out and the aircraft was released for use. As part of the air bridge and in coordination with the federal government, Lufthansa will operate further flights from Tashkent, Doha and other neighboring countries in the next few days.

Air Baltic receives a further 90 million euros from the state

The Latvian government intends to give Air Baltic a further 90 million euros. The Council of Ministers made the corresponding decision on Tuesday. The approval of the EU Commission must still be obtained. The carrier is majority state-owned and is now to receive equity capital. This is to be repaid through the sale of shares as part of a planned IPO. Last year, Air Baltic received state aid approved by the EU Commission due to the corona pandemic. "The support of our majority shareholder in overcoming the crisis reflects the recognition of Air Baltic's positive impact on the economy," explains company boss Martin Gauss.
