Adria bankruptcy: Lufthansa and AUA have registered 6,6 million euros

According to the insolvency administrator, the insolvency proceedings of Adria Airways are likely to drag on for at least another three years. According to a statement from the lawyer, around 151 million euros in claims have been filed so far. Of this, 87,7 million euros have been recognized. Austrian Airlines and Lufthansa are among the largest creditors with 6,6 million euros. According to the insolvency administrator, the reason for this is that advance payments and securities were made for ACMI services. Given that Adria Airways had hardly any funds left, the two Star Alliance members are likely to receive a small share at best. It is also noteworthy that two former managing directors of Adria Airways, against whom the local public prosecutor is conducting investigations, have filed claims for 67.600 euros and 47.000 euros respectively. By far the largest chunk, 15,5 million, is made up of outstanding wages of the once approximately 550 employees. Other creditors include leasing companies such as AeroCentury, but also the engine manufacturer Rolls-Royce. The proceeds from previous sales and auctions are to be distributed shortly. The wages of the former employees are so-called priority claims. In concrete terms, this means that they will receive payments before all other creditors. In general, however, the potential rate is estimated to be low.

Deutsche Bahn is abolishing ticket sales on the train

From January 2022, Deutsche Bahn AG will no longer sell tickets on its long-distance trains. The conductors will then be purely ticket inspectors and will no longer be able to offer the purchase of tickets at the increased on-board price. Up to now, it has been possible in the ICE and InterCity train classes to buy the ticket from the conductor for a "service fee" of 17 euros. The flexible fare is then always charged, which can be significantly more expensive than the Internet saver tickets with a train connection. Nevertheless, many people use this option, especially when the decision to travel by train is made at very short notice and there is no longer enough time for a web, machine or counter ticket. In the future, Deutsche Bahn AG wants to make it possible for this group of customers to buy the ticket up to 10 minutes after departure via the company's app. Anyone who is not aware of this option, does not have a smartphone or the Internet connection does not work reliably will then be considered a fare dodger and will be asked to pay accordingly.

Hawaii requires a minimum distance from dolphins

From October 28, 2021, it will be forbidden in Hawaii to approach spinner dolphins near the coast within 50 meters. The government has banned so-called dolphin swimming, which was previously a tourist attraction, by law. The background is that this species of animal is nocturnal and stays in shallow bays during the day to rest there. The result is that these dolphins are comparatively easy to access. Animal rights activists believe that the marine mammals suffer massive damage if they are constantly disturbed in their half-sleep. For obvious reasons, dolphins do not sleep completely, but alternate between half-sleep. The animals can become active in a flash if there is danger. It is now legally prohibited to approach the animals. This also includes boats and canoes. In recent years, tourist dolphin tours are said to have reached a scale that has little to do with classic dolphin watching. Hawaii wants to end this commercial industry in the interests of animal welfare. Dolphins can be very trusting and curious when these intelligent marine mammals want to be. However, it becomes problematic when the animal actually wants to be left alone and humans become intrusive. Attacks against humans occur all over the world. Dolphins only resort to this method when they see themselves or their offspring disturbed or in danger and milder methods have not been able to stop humans from further harassment. It is also important to remember that dolphins are predators and, despite all their intelligence, have a very strong hunting instinct.
