HAM: Sky Alps flies to Bolzano

From December 16, 2021, the Alps will be directly connected to Hamburg: The new airline Sky Alps will fly twice a week from Hamburg Airport to Bolzano. The South Tyrolean capital is a completely new destination in Hamburg's flight schedule. The route will be served every Thursday and Sunday. "Hamburg Airport warmly welcomes Sky Alps. For many northern Germans, winter vacation is the highlight of the year. We are therefore particularly pleased that the world-famous Dolomites will only be a two-hour flight away from December," says Dirk Behrens, Head of Aviation at the airport. "Bolzano is the perfect starting point for an active holiday in the mountains - but it has much more to offer. That's why the capital of South Tyrol is a real insider tip for anyone looking for variety after a day of sport."

From midnight: Morocco bans non-stop flights from Germany, UK and the Netherlands

Morocco, which is popular with holidaymakers, is banning all non-stop flights that have departed from Germany, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom from 20:2021 p.m. on October 23, 59. In concrete terms, this means that tourists can no longer be flown in and many holidays will be canceled. However, non-stop flights that take off in Morocco and land in the three countries mentioned, for example, are permitted. It remains to be seen how the airlines will behave, because empty flights to bring holidaymakers home are expensive given the long distance. However, many providers have made so-called "care promises" and now they have to prove them. Since the three banned states are not the "incidence kings" of Europe, the further behavior of the Moroccan government must also be awaited. The German Foreign Ministry says, among other things, that a short-term extension to other EU countries cannot be ruled out. Morocco only issued the order today, effectively giving airlines and tour operators no lead time to deal with the situation. People who have booked a package holiday to Morocco for the next few days should contact their tour operator or travel agent immediately. Individual travellers should contact their airline, especially if they are currently in Morocco. Direct flights (unlike non-stop flights, these have at least one stopover) and connecting flights are not affected by the ban. An entry ban has not yet been issued, at least not yet.

Transall C-160 came back to Nuremberg to say goodbye

One of the last Transall transport aircraft - with a unique special paint job - made a stopover at Nuremberg Airport as part of its farewell flight. The tactical transport aircraft Transall C-160, also known as the "Angel of the Skies" because of the many aid and rescue missions it has been on, was given a fitting farewell with a water fountain from the airport fire brigade. The twin-engine aircraft then took off on its final journey to the Otto Lilienthal Barracks air base in Roth, where it will be retired after 53 years of service. The air transport veteran, developed jointly by Germany and France in the 1960s, will be replaced by the more powerful and modern Airbus A400M, which has also already visited Nuremberg Airport.

Lufthansa names first Dreamliner “Berlin”

Lufthansa has not yet been able to formally take delivery of any of the five Boeing 787-9s, but the company announced that the first unit will be registered as D-ABPA. The long-haul jet is to be named "Berlin". A ceremonial christening of the Dreamliner has been announced for next year. However, it is not yet known when exactly. The first flight is to be made in the direction of Toronto. Since 1960, it has been a tradition at Lufthansa to name aircraft after German cities: Willy Brandt was the first to name a Boeing 707 "Berlin". The most recent Airbus A380 to bear the prestigious name was D-AIMI.

New “Take Off” tender brings 9,2 million euros for aviation

This year's "Take Off" program brings 9,2 million euros in research funding, which will be invested in projects in the areas of innovation, climate protection and sustainability in aviation. The new focus of the "Take Off" call for proposals was presented as part of the online event "Aviation Forum Austria 2021". Domestic companies can submit their projects for sustainable innovation in aviation until February 23, 2022. The "Take Off" aviation research program of the Federal Ministry for Climate Protection (BMK) and the Austrian Research Promotion Agency (FFG) promotes innovative research projects in aviation. A climate-neutral Austria is to be achieved by 2040. Austria has set itself ambitious goals in its 2030 Mobility Master Plan: In the future, transport should protect our climate and help us to blow less dirt into the air. We already know many of the solutions we need for this today - but we also have to look for new solutions. The switch to climate-friendly technologies is a major challenge, especially in aviation. With the new 'Take Off' tender, we are now investing almost ten million euros in research into technologies for climate-neutral aviation. And I would like to invite all companies with their innovative spirit to participate here," explains Climate Protection Minister Leonore Gewessler.

Hamburg: Tel Aviv Air postpones the first flight again

The startup Tel Aviv Air will not resume the charter flights planned from Hamburg as originally announced, but is postponing the first flight to December 16, 2021. The company itself is not an airline, but intends to have the flights operated with chartered Boeing 737s from Enter Air. This is not the first delay, as the company actually wanted to operate between Hamburg and Tel Aviv from September 19, 2021. According to the company's announcement, the company is now aiming for December 16, 2021 and also gives a reason for this: Israel's entry regulations are still restrictive and, according to Tel Aviv Air, do not allow tourist flights. The startup's offer is charter flights and not scheduled flights.
