Despite Corona: Many delayed and canceled flights
This year, around 20 million passengers are said to have been affected by flight irregularities. According to statistics from Airhelp, the airports in Brussels, Paris-CDG, Eindhoven and Düsseldorf were particularly unpunctual. The latter airport is said to have come fourth on the negative list. According to Airhelp, around 490.000 passengers are said to have been affected. In 2019, the proportion of "problem flights" is said to have been higher, but the number of passengers was also considerably higher. The causes of the delays are extremely varied. However, these are mostly home-made by airlines and their service providers as well as airports. There is certainly a shortage of staff at many airports, but also at the airlines. In the wake of Corona, too many employees were laid off or many reoriented themselves in other industries due to short-time work. Berlin-Brandenburg Airport has recently come into public attention because, although only a few passengers use the airport compared to the "before Corona" period, there have been repeated long waiting times and chaotic conditions. But even smaller airports like Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden have already made headlines this year because the regional council did not ensure that there were enough staff at the security checkpoint. The result: only one line was open and many travelers missed their flights. According to Airhelp, things went much better in Ireland and the United Kingdom, for example. The proportion of problem flights in these two countries has so far been between four and six percent. This could also be due to the fact that Ireland and the UK opened up to international travel relatively late.
