Zeitfracht: City of Rostock agrees to sell the airport

The Zeitfracht Group wants to take over Rostock-Laage Airport and made a formal purchase offer to the shareholders some time ago. The Hanseatic City of Rostock has now agreed to the sale of its shares. Rostock holds a 54 percent majority through RVV Holding. The district also holds 35,5 percent and the city of Lage 10,4 percent. The minority shareholders still have to agree to the sale. In any case, a purchase agreement between the city of Rostock and Zeitfracht is to be signed on Friday. The logistics group, which is represented in aviation through its subsidiary German Airways, wants to convert the regional airport into a logistics hub after the takeover. German Airways, which emerged from WDL, is also to operate cargo planes again. A few years ago, the company briefly had Bae-146 cargo planes - already under Zeitfracht - but these were retired. In the past, WDL has repeatedly been active in the cargo sector.

The women's national football team will also make the return journey after the away game on an aircraft from the Maltese Ryanair subsidiary. For some time now, the Ryanair Group has been making increased efforts to offer charter flights. The Buzz and Lauda Europe brands are primarily used.

On your own account: Helvetic takes on Hurghada and Kittilä

The airline Helvetic Airways is the last remaining wet lease provider of the Lufthansa Group. All other subcontractors were separated in the wake of the corona pandemic. But the cooperation between Swiss and Helvetic Airways has long been a thorn in the side of the unions. It is not known exactly how long Helvetic Airways will continue to fly for Swiss. In any case, the contract seems to be sophisticated and not so easy for the Lufthansa subsidiary to terminate. Helvetic was originally a low-cost airline that operated in a very idiosyncratic livery. The cooperation with Swiss only came about after a change of ownership, which also brought the current livery. Helvetic also flies for other clients. For example, these are tour operators who have their holiday flights carried out with the Swiss airline's Embraer jets. The carrier also regularly offers scheduled flights on its own account. Now Hurghada is being added as a destination from Zurich-Kloten. This will be served on Saturdays from February 12, 2022. The current plan is for the route to be offered until April 30, 2022. With Kittilä in Finland, another destination will be added to the program on December 26, 2021, on its own account from Zurich. This route will initially be served until February 26, 2021.

Breeze: David Neeleman wants the A220-300 with more range

Breeze founder David Neeleman is actually enthusiastic about the Airbus A220-300. But as far as range is concerned, there must still be something that can be done. The installation of an additional tank should enable the low-cost airline to fly to destinations that are currently outside of the range. It is a very complex process, because such modifications have to be approved by the responsible aviation authorities. However, Neeleman believes that this can also be done more easily and quickly. He refers to the executive model of the Airbus A220, the ACJ TwoTwenty. This will be equipped with an additional tank to increase the range and this is exactly what could be transferred to the commercial model. Saves time, saves money and is only theory for now. But the Breeze boss's idea is not far-fetched, because he explains to Simple Flying that they are already in talks with Airbus. He emphasizes that the European aircraft manufacturer is already developing additional tanks for the A220-100 and the business jet variant. It would therefore be obvious that Breeze would be interested in an A220-300 with an increased range. The reason for this is also clear: Neeleman has never made a secret of the fact that he can imagine Breeze Airways offering long-haul flights in the long term. For example, to Germany, Austria or Switzerland. The range of the Airbus A220-300 is currently not sufficient for this. There have been rumors in the industry for some time that the European manufacturer wants to make the A220 suitable for long-haul flights in order to be able to offer a narrowbody alternative alongside the A321LR/XLR.

Carbon dioxide indulgence trading is rarely used by Ryanair passengers

Many airlines offer the option of donating to climate projects or planting trees when booking a flight. However, this "indulgence trade" is a slow seller across the industry. According to CEO Michael O'Leary, less than one percent of Ryanair travelers use this option. The budget airline is by no means at the lower end of the spectrum, as competitor Lufthansa also only manages to persuade very few passengers to donate to the in-house organization Compensaid, despite sometimes intrusive marketing. Company boss Carsten Spohr even said that he could greet all donors personally with a handshake. He was responding to a question about how many passengers use the "indulgence trade". A few weeks ago, Wizz Air boss Jozsef Varadi ranted massively against such donation projects and then caused amusement because he obviously did not know that the company he heads also offers "indulgence trade" and that on the homepage.

Iran: Mahan Air victim of denied hacker attack

Various airlines have already fallen victim to cyberattacks or have had data breaches - mostly of their own making. Now it hit the Iranian Mahan Air at the beginning of the week. The hacker attack had no impact on flight operations - at least officially. Nevertheless, there are numerous reports from Iran that there have been repeated irregularities in standard processes. These are said to have caused delays. In some cases, passenger processing had to be carried out manually because there was allegedly no access to the data. Nevertheless, the airline claims that it has successfully fended off the cyberattack. According to its own statements, there have been repeated similar attacks in the past. It does not seem to have been quite as Mahan Air claims, because numerous passengers claim that they received text messages in the name of Mahan Air. Apparently the hackers took control of the dispatch system and sent some completely meaningless messages to the passengers. Mahan Air particularly denies the fact that sensitive customer data was stolen.

Bolzano: Skyalps with high winter demand

The Bolzano Airport's own brand, Skyalps, says it is experiencing great demand for the upcoming winter flights. The connections to/from Denmark are said to be largely fully booked. Skyalps was launched by the airport in order to be able to provide regular air traffic again. The focus is heavily on incoming flights, which is hardly surprising given the ownership structure of the regional airport. Formally, the house brand is a tour operator with the necessary concession. The flights are operated by the Maltese Luxwing with DHC Dash 8-400s, which, however, bear the Skyalps livery. The winter season is scheduled to start on December 13, 2021 and will primarily bring skiers and snowboarders to South Tyrol. The first "winter flight" will be to Brussels. This year, the destinations offered are Berlin-Brandenburg, Hamburg, Rotterdam, Brussels, Copenhagen, Düsseldorf and London-Gatwick. The runway at Bolzano Airport is currently being extended by 130 meters to 1.400 meters. According to the airport, the project is in the final phase, so the work will be completed in the next few days and Luxwing will then be able to take off and land on the extended runway.

Boeing announces three conversion lines for Boeing 737 freighters

The US aircraft manufacturer wants to profit more from the increased demand for converted freighters. To do this, it will set up new production lines. One of these will be located at London Gatwick Airport and thus in Europe. According to the Aerbuzz portal, the company will use the services of partners. In Kewlona, KF Aerospace will set up two conversion lines authorized by the manufacturer. In London Gatwick, however, the conversion will be carried out independently. The line will be located in the existing Boeing Center at this airport. The three new conversion lines will convert B737-800 passenger aircraft into B737-800BCF freighters. There is currently increased demand in this size segment. According to Boeing, 200 orders have already been received from 19 customers. Furthermore, demand for around 20 narrowbody cargo aircraft is forecast for the next 12.000 years. Due to the fact that many passenger aircraft are gradually replacing their existing NG fleets with the successor model Max or the competing A320neo family, there are many convertible aircraft on the used market. This is also an attractive business for lessors, because due to rising fuel prices, NG models are in little demand among passenger airlines, but there is demand in the freight sector, where they are replacing some much older aircraft.
