Air Astana will be flying to New Delhi again from mid-December

Kazakhstan's national airline is adding the Indian capital New Delhi back to its flight schedule. From December 16, 2021, Air Astana will fly from Almaty to New Delhi three times a week with an Airbus A320. The flights will take place on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. After departing Almaty at 7:50 a.m., the plane will reach the Indian metropolis at 11:10 a.m. local time. The return flight departs at 12:20 p.m. and lands in Almaty at 16:40 p.m. The flight time is 3:50 hours each way. The carrier says it operates one of the youngest fleets in the world with 35 aircraft, including Boeing 767, Airbus A320/A320neo, Airbus A321/A321neo/A321LR and Embraer E190-E2.

LEJ: The world's largest aircraft flies in for corona tests

Today, the Antonov AN-225, the largest aircraft in the world, landed at Leipzig/Halle Airport (LEJ). On board were over 500 pallets with around 3,5 million corona tests. Another flight of the AN-225 is planned for the coming weeks. It is the 30th use of the unique aircraft at the central German airport. This makes LEJ one of the airports most frequently flown to by the AN-225 in the world. The aircraft was unloaded by PortGround, the subsidiary of Mitteldeutsche Flughafen AG that specializes in aircraft and cargo handling. Leipzig/Halle Airport is a central transshipment point for medical goods in the fight against the corona pandemic. As the second largest air freight transshipment point in Germany, the airport secures important logistics and supply chains across Europe. In recent months - in addition to regular traffic - over 100 cargo charter flights with millions of corona tests have been handled. Dozens more transports are expected by the end of the year. The volume of freight at Leipzig/Halle Airport, Europe's fourth-largest air freight hub, has been growing continuously for 16 years. In October of this year, the airport recorded a new record of 141.173 tonnes. For the first ten months of this year, freight handling increased by 1,3 percent to around 16,9 million tonnes.

France and Ireland tighten the entry requirements

From Friday, the Republic of Ireland will also require vaccinated and recovered people to present a negative PCR test. This must be no more than 72 hours old at the time of entry. People who can prove that they have recovered and/or have been fully vaccinated against Covid-19 may also present an antigen result that is no more than 48 hours old during a transitional phase. Those who are not vaccinated or recovered may only enter the country upon presentation of a negative PCR test. Rapid antigen test results are no longer accepted for this group of people. According to the Ministry of Health, the new measure is a response to the emergence of the Omicron variant. Changes to entry regulations are also being made in France, although these are still much more relaxed than those in Ireland. Travelers who are not vaccinated or recovered against Covid-19 require a negative PCR result from a swab taken no more than 24 hours ago from all EU countries. Until now, the deadline was 48 hours. The testing requirement does not apply to vaccinated and recovered people. Some EU members are gradually tightening entry regulations for vaccinated and recovered people. Bulgaria was the first to introduce the requirement of a corona test as well, as this state was the first member state of the European Union. Portugal followed suit shortly afterwards with similar regulations. Malta introduced a requirement in July 2021 that only people who had been fully vaccinated against Covid-19 were allowed to enter the country.

The company fire brigade at Vienna Airport gets a new loading crane

The Palfinger PK 135.002 TEC7-G is now in use by the Vienna Airport Fire Department. The new loading crane is particularly impressive due to its excellent lifting capacity to dead weight ratio. But the new vehicle also has numerous other technical details: The crane is powered by a 480 hp engine with an automated manual transmission, reaches a working height of 35 meters, has a mountain winch with a pulling force of 20 tons in a single pull and can be used either as a platform truck, tractor unit or in winch operation. "Even in times of the COVID-19 pandemic and lockdown, safe airport operations must be guaranteed. At the Vienna Airport Fire Department, we rely not only on highly trained employees but also on the latest equipment. With the new Palfinger loading crane, we are now expanding our operational fleet. Our fire department will therefore continue to be perfectly equipped for all emergencies," says Julian Jäger, CEO of Flughafen Wien AG. In total, the Vienna Airport Fire Department comprises around 120 firefighters and nine emergency paramedics. At least 18 firefighters, two emergency paramedics and an emergency doctor are on duty around the clock every day to be ready in the event of an emergency and to keep the company's operations running smoothly. They currently have around 45 fire engines, trailers and special equipment such as airport fire engines, emergency ambulances, rescue stairs, cherry pickers, container rescue equipment and other equipment at their disposal.

New MGL managing director starts work

Today is Andreas Ungar's first day at work as the new Managing Director of Mönchengladbach Airport (MGL). This means that the management team is complete again alongside Managing Director Ulrich Schückhaus and Authorized Signatory David Bongartz. Ungar succeeds Franz-Josef Kames, who retired at the end of March. When the contract was signed in June of this year, he said: "I am looking forward to the new, exciting task in Mönchengladbach. With its proven business areas, MGL Airport is well positioned as a training, maintenance and event location." At the same time, due to its excellent infrastructure and high level of flexibility, MGL has enormous potential to drive forward groundbreaking developments in aviation and become even more attractive for general aviation. "That is exactly what we will now tackle together and with verve - further develop the airport as an innovation and growth engine for Mönchengladbach," adds Schückhaus. He is happy to have an experienced manager and proven airport expert at his side in the management. Ungar will be responsible for the airport's operational business and, like other municipal companies, will initially be appointed to this position for five years. The man in his mid-thirties was previously operations manager and managing director of security services at Münster/Osnabrück Airport and, prior to that, worked for many years as technical manager, traffic manager and authorized signatory in a responsible position at Rostock-Laage Airport.

Eurowings is taking a longer break in Graz and Linz and is cutting back in Germany

The airline Eurowings will pause the Germany routes offered from Graz and Linz for longer than previously known. So far it has been said that the lockdown in Austria will mean that flights will be suspended until January 10, 2022. But it is obviously not going to stop there, because Linz-Düsseldorf and Graz-Stuttgart will not be served until at least January 31, 2022. The renewed and prolonged loss of Germany routes is annoying for both airports. Eurowings is also cutting costs from German airports and from its new base in Prague. From the Czech capital, connections to Zagreb and Tel Aviv will not be resumed for an indefinite period of time. In Germany, there will be temporary suspensions in Cologne/Bonn, Düsseldorf, Hamburg and Stuttgart. In Cologne, flights to Dresden and Bologna are affected. These will not be operated until February 11, 2022 and February 14, 2022 respectively. From Düsseldorf, the domestic route to Leipzig/Halle will be suspended until January 24, 2022. From Hamburg, there will be no flights to Nuremberg between January 6 and 30, 2022. From Stuttgart, the domestic destinations Dresden and Hanover are suspended until January 30, 2022. Bremen is to be paused from December 10, 2021 to January 31, 2022. From Düsseldorf, the destination Bergamo will only be served sporadically on individual days.

The Scandinavian airline SAS will start flying its "low-cost" offspring SAS Connect and SAS Link from Copenhagen in early 2022. The airline is examining options to expand Connect to Oslo and Stockholm during the year, it said at the presentation of the results for the 21st financial year on November 30. With an expanded operating model, SAS wants to be prepared for the changes in the market. SAS is launching the new "low-cost" brand Connect in early 2022. The company also wants to continue using wet-lease aircraft. SAS Connect is to operate the Airbus A320 aircraft type. So far, nine of the 70 units have been transferred to this subsidiary. SAS Link is to operate the Embraer 190 model. In total, the group will rely on four "production platforms": SAS Scandinavia, SAS Connect, SAS Link and wet-lease aircraft. The employees of Connect and Link receive lower wages than their colleagues at SAS Scandinavia. The unions are therefore extremely critical of the project and no agreement has yet been reached. Flagging out is also a point of contention, as SAS Connect is based on the existing SAS Ireland.

Turkish Airlines is said to be interested in joining TAP Air Portugal

Tap Air Portugal's financial figures have been poor for several years and various measures have not brought any notable success. The corona pandemic dragged the carrier even deeper into the red. The state, which actually wanted to pull out completely, gradually took over the helm again. The measure is not without controversy, to say the least, because the EU Commission is wrangling over aid measures amounting to around 3,2 billion euros. At the same time, the workforce's wages have been radically reduced and many employees have already been laid off. In the first instance, the European Court of Justice overturned the state aid following a lawsuit by Ryanair. Local media are now reporting that Star Alliance partner Turkish Airlines is interested in joining Tap Air Portugal. Among other things, "Jornal de Negócios" writes that the Turkish carrier has already organized financial information and has signaled its willingness to join through diplomatic channels. It would be willing to invest around 1,9 billion euros in the ailing partner and would strengthen long-haul routes from Portugal. However, there has been no official confirmation from Turkish Airlines, Tap or the Portuguese government. Everyone is keeping quiet. When asked, the Turkish airline even denied any interest in Tap and said that it was not planning to invest in other companies “at the moment”.
