Milos: Olympic's ATR42 makes a botanical excursion
The ATR42-600 with the registration SX-OAY, operated by Olympic Air, took an involuntary excursion into the bushes on Friday at around 15:30 p.m. The turboprop aircraft veered off the runway on the Greek island of Milos and came to a stop on the grass next to it. According to local reports confirmed by Olympic Air, the ATR42-600 was caught by a strong gust of wind in the final phase of taxiing out on Runway 08 and was carried into the grass, which is located directly next to the runway. No damage is visible, but technicians from the Aegean subsidiary will check the aircraft carefully before it is used again and carry out repairs if necessary. According to Olympic Air, there were 20 passengers on board the turboprop aircraft, which was en route from Athens to Milos as the OA24. None of the passengers or crew were injured. All were able to leave the aircraft safely, but in the bushes next to the runway instead of in the parking position. At the time of the incident, the SX-OAY was 8,9 years old. This aircraft only joined the fleet of the Aegean regional subsidiary in August 2021.
