ÖAMTC: Ambulance jet was used 73 times last year

Last year, the Austrian motorists' club ÖAMTC organized the journey home from home and abroad for 1.946 sick or injured people. In 73 cases, the ambulance jet was also used. According to a statement from the ÖAMTC, the vast majority were transported home in ambulances. Regular scheduled flights were booked in 124 cases and the ambulance jet was used 73 times. "These figures show how important the ÖAMTC's unrestricted emergency aid operation was and is, especially in times of Corona," explains Maria Tüchler, head of the ÖAMTC emergency aid insurance. "Our call takers had a lot to do - on average they took 516 calls a day. In August, when traveling was a little easier again, there were even around 1.260 phone calls a day." In addition, 7.254 vehicles were recovered, mostly within Austria. "At the same time, the health of the employees had to be protected as best as possible. We achieved this right at the beginning of the pandemic with a home office offensive.” As a result, in the Vienna, Lower Austria and Burgenland areas alone, around half of the Yellow Angels working in the emergency aid center swapped the call center in Vienna-Erdberg for a private workplace.

Fraport and Miles & More enter into strategic partnership

The airport operator will be the first fully integrated partner of the loyalty program at Frankfurt Airport. The airport operator Fraport is now a strategic partner and co-publisher of Lufthansa's Miles & More rewards program at Frankfurt Airport. The merger between Fraport and the loyalty program for mobile people will enable passengers to collect and redeem miles across the airport in the future - whether in retail stores or Fraport's own service facilities, Fraport announced yesterday. The integration of retailers and services will take place gradually over the next few years. Lufthansa board member Christina Foerster highlighted the promising retail potential, "with a view to a more far-reaching partnership between Lufthansa and Fraport in the future." In the past, Lufthansa had viewed the collaboration with Fraport rather critically and always pointed out the advantages of the cooperation with Munich Airport.

EU Commission approves 1,7 billion euros for BER

Berlin Brandenburg Airport may receive state aid of up to 1,7 billion euros. The EU Commission has given the green light for the measure. The airport got into financial difficulties due to the corona pandemic. EU Competition Commissioner Margrethe Vestager justified the approval as follows: "The airports have been hit particularly hard by the outbreak of the coronavirus and the current travel restrictions. With this measure, Germany is helping to strengthen Berlin Brandenburg Airport's equity position and help the company to cope with the economic impact of the outbreak. At the same time, public support is subject to conditions in order to limit undue distortions of competition. We continue to work closely with the Member States to ensure that national support measures can be implemented as quickly and effectively as possible in accordance with EU rules." It is still unclear when Berlin Brandenburg Airport will receive the state aid that has now been approved. It will probably not be long, as management has repeatedly warned that the operating company is slowly but surely running out of money.

Lufthansa flies Team Germany to the Olympic Winter Games

At 17 p.m. it was “all doors in flight” for the Boeing 45-747 with the registration D-ABYA and the baptismal name “Brandenburg” at Frankfurt Airport. Captain Christian Leyhe and his crew welcomed on board the two-seater tobogganing teams with Tobias Arlt, Sascha Benecken, Toni Eggert and Tobias Wendl, and the figure skating, freeskiing, women’s alpine skiing, biathlon, snowboarding halfpipe and ski jumping teams led by Karl Geiger and Katharina Althaus. Beforehand, the team was bid farewell in the Lufthansa Business Class Lounge. DOSB Vice President Miriam Welte and Lufthansa Airlines CEO Klaus Froese gave the athletes their best wishes for the sporting competitions on their journey. “We are delighted that the day of departure has finally arrived for Team D,” said DOSB President Thomas Weikert, head of the delegation in Beijing. “The opening ceremony will take place in just four days and the anticipation is growing. We are flying to Beijing with a strong team and I am sure that our athletes will perform excellently both as role models for society and as ambassadors for our country." Lufthansa Airlines CEO Klaus Froese said: "It is a tradition that Team Germany flies to the Olympic Games with Lufthansa. For us, this is a very special task that we undertake with joy and pride every time." Lufthansa Cargo has already flown 8 tons of sports equipment and sports luggage to Beijing in recent weeks. The "cargo crane" has been a reliable partner for transporting sports equipment for the Olympic team for many years. The transport of the sports equipment is particularly time-critical and requires great care and experience.

Airbus and employee representatives reach agreement

Airbus has reached a comprehensive agreement with its employee representatives on the industrial restructuring of the aerospace group. This concerns the establishment of a new section assembly company and the future of individual parts and assembly production at Premium Aerotec, the aircraft manufacturer announced. The assembly of aircraft fuselages, which is currently spread across the entire company and its subsidiaries, will be merged in a new company and fully integrated into the group as a core activity on July 1, 2022. In April, Airbus announced the establishment of two companies as part of a restructuring of its aircraft structure assembly in Europe - one in France, which already took place at the beginning of the year - and one in Germany. "With the industrial restructuring, we at Airbus are creating the right conditions for aircraft construction of the future and strengthening Germany's role within Airbus in Europe for the coming decades," said Chief Financial Officer Dominik Asam. With the agreement, the concept can now be fully implemented. Airbus also announced that Muhr and Bender KG (brand name "Mubea") has submitted a convincing offer for the individual parts production of the supplier Premium Aerotec. It includes the Augsburg and Varel sites as well as the Premium Aerotec subsidiary in Brasov, Romania. The medium-sized family business wants to retain the jobs and even expand the sites. According to the information, Mubea's offer includes a comprehensive concept for long-term job security and enables the creation of a competitive German company whose core business will be the production of individual parts and assemblies. This will make the new company an important long-term supplier for the Airbus industrial system - as a key customer, the group will secure a significant portion of its order volume.

South Africa simplifies entry

In view of the fact that the fourth wave of infections has now subsided, South Africa is further easing its CoV measures. The Cape State government has decided that people who have tested positive but do not have symptoms no longer have to go into quarantine. For those with symptoms, the duration of isolation has been reduced from ten days to seven days. Anyone who has come into close contact with infected people only has to go into quarantine if symptoms persist. This is reported by the ORF. The easing of restrictions was justified by studies that showed that around 70 percent of the population in South Africa had already had an infection.

Despite Tailstrike: British Airways pilots prevent serious landing accident with A321neo

A spectacular scene occurred on Monday when British Airways flight BA1307 attempted to land at London Heathrow Airport. The Airbus A321neo narrowly avoided a more serious accident. The G-NEOP was en route from Aberdeen to Heathrow Airport. Extremely strong winds were prevailing there at the time of the landing attempt. In a video taken by a local spotter, this is clearly visible in the last few meters before the runway. The Airbus A321neo attempts to touch down on the runway relatively late and initially touches the ground with its right landing gear. The G-NEOP then touches down with the other wheels as well, but continues to hold its nose steeply upwards. At the moment when the pilots want to touch down the front landing gear, the medium-haul jet is hit by a strong gust of wind coming from the side. This pushes the Airbus A320neo strongly to the left, although the wing and engine do not touch the ground. Luckily, otherwise things could have turned out very differently for the aircraft, the crew and the passengers. The pilots managed to stabilize the Airbus A321neo in a fraction of a second. At the same time, a go-around maneuver was initiated. During this, the G-NEOP touched down on the ground with its tail, causing a so-called tailstrike. However, the plane was able to take off and land safely at the largest airport in the United Kingdom some time later. In the eyewitness video below, which was recorded by a local spotter and commented on live in a very emotional way, it is clear that it was not far from being a serious landing accident.

Charter: Springer offers Skiathos and Paros from Klagenfurt

The tour operator Springer Reisen is offering two charter destinations from Klagenfurt Airport in summer 2022. These are the Greek destinations Paros and Skiathos. In contrast to the past, the tour operator does not have any direct flights to the island of Naxos in its portfolio this year. This year, the destination Naxos is offered indirectly from both Graz and Klagenfurt. In concrete terms, this means that the plane lands on Paros and the holidaymakers are then taken by ship to the neighboring island. According to Springer Reisen, the transfer by sea takes around 20 minutes. The Paros flights are operated by Avanti Air with de Havilland Dash 8-400 on Saturday. On Fridays, the German airline uses this type of aircraft to fly from Klagenfurt to Skiathos. While the flights from Klagenfurt to Paros are non-stop, there is a refueling stop on the island of Mykonos in the opposite direction for technical reasons. This also applies to the return flights from Paros to Graz. According to Avanti Air, the reason for this is that there is no fuel on the island of Paros, which is why refueling is required on Mykonos. "We are delighted that our partner Springer Reisen is significantly expanding last year's charter offer from Klagenfurt Airport for the summer of 2022. With Skiathos and Paros/Naxos, very popular Greek holiday islands are easily accessible with weekly direct flights operated by a renowned airline," says Nils Witt, Managing Director of Klagenfurt Airport. The Springer charter from Klagenfurt at a glance: Klagenfurt (KLU) 12:35 Skiathos (JSI) 16:05 Skiathos (JSI) 10:20 Klagenfurt (KLU) 11:50 Period: May 27 - September 30, 2022 Klagenfurt
