Salzburg calls 4h00 railjet to Vienna airport

There have been no Austrian Airlines domestic flights between Salzburg and Vienna for some time. These have been shifted to rail, but there is a problem: the early morning flight cannot often be reached due to the travel times of the Railjets. Salzburg state politicians are now calling for an additional connection that should leave Salzburg Central Station at around 4:00 a.m. This should enable air passengers to reach the morning flight at Vienna-Schwechat Airport, regardless of whether they are flying with Austrian Airlines or another airline. However, it will be rather tight for the early flights of Ryanair and Wizz Air, as many connections take off between 5:00 a.m. and around 7:00 a.m. Due to the travel time from Salzburg Central Station to Vienna-Schwechat Airport, which is around two hours and 49 minutes, things are getting tight. A connection as cooperation trains (Austrian Airlines/ÖBB) would mean that many of AUA's morning flights would be easier to reach from Salzburg. The problem at the moment is that the first train arrives late at Vienna-Schwechat Airport. It should not be underestimated that Munich Airport is a serious competitor, because the journey time to Munich East, where you can change to the express train to Franz Josef Strauss Airport, is less than 1,5 hours. In contrast to the Southern Railway, there is no awarding of services on the Westbahn route. In concrete terms, this means that the railway companies ÖBB and Westbahn operate on their own account and do not receive any subsidies for this. This was not the case during the Corona lockdowns, when both providers received temporary support due to emergency awards. The Salzburg state government's intention therefore depends primarily on

Eurowings Discover announces Mbombela

The airline Eurowings Discover will start three weekly flights from Frankfurt am Main to Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport in November 2022. According to the airline, it is the first intercontinental carrier to fly to this airport. Eurowings Discover will offer three weekly rotations to Mbombela between November 15, 2022 and March 25, 2023. The flight will not be non-stop, but with a stopover in Windhoek. The target group of the new connection are people who want to experience safari in the Kruger National Park. The airline also explains that Mbombela should also be suitable for onward travel to Zimbabwe, Mozambique and Swaziland. Since its launch in July 2021, the holiday airline has been steadily expanding its flight schedule to include destinations on the African continent. Eurowings Discover already flies travelers from Frankfurt to Mombasa, Zanzibar, Mauritius and Windhoek. In the 2022 summer flight schedule, Victoria Falls and Kilimanjaro will be added on long-haul routes, and Djerba, Hurghada and Marsa Alam on medium-haul routes. The weekly flights to Windhoek will be increased from five to seven all year round, and Mombasa will be flown to four times a week instead of twice a week all year round from summer. Eurowings Discover is currently the only European airline to offer direct flights to Victoria Falls and Windhoek. "Africa is clearly one of the most important and strongest markets for us. Our booking figures show that travelers from all over Europe are increasingly drawn to the vastness and beauty of this continent. As a holiday airline, we are therefore focusing on a varied Africa program this year and will continue to expand it in the future," explains Helmut Wölfel, Chief Commercial Officer of Eurowings Discover. Frankfurt Airport once again counts more passengers

The airport operator once again handled significantly more passengers at Frankfurt Airport in January, but the recovery in demand has slowed due to the rapid spread of the Omicron variant. Cargo volumes recorded a slight decline of 0,9 percent to 174.753 tons in January (plus 7,0 percent compared to January 2019). The number of flight movements, on the other hand, rose by 86,7 percent to 24.639 takeoffs and landings. At around 1,7 million tons, the total maximum takeoff weights grew by 56,8 percent (each compared to January 2021). The positive trend in passenger numbers continued at the international locations. The majority of the Group's airports achieved significant increases, in some cases over 2021 percent, compared to the sharply reduced air traffic in January 92,3. One exception is the airport in Xi'an, where passenger volume fell by 173.139 percent to XNUMX passengers due to the strict lockdown in the Chinese city.

Tui starts the Mallorca season today

In order to meet demand for Mallorca, the airline is moving the start of the spring and Easter season forward: the first three planes from Düsseldorf, Frankfurt and Hanover will take off for Mallorca on February 11th. The chances of returning to pre-Corona booking figures are good, and not just for the summer. There is also a great desire to travel to Mallorca in the short term, the company said in a press release. Tui is therefore bringing forward the traditional start of the season for the spring and Easter season. Almost at the same time, three Tuifly planes from Düsseldorf, Frankfurt and Hanover will leave for the Balearic island today. Stuttgart is also expected to follow shortly. "The longing for sun and sea is now also stimulating short-term demand for the Mediterranean. We are starting again with our first own planes - and earlier than in previous years. The first flights are almost completely booked out, and the prospects for the summer season are more than promising. We expect that all hotels on the Balearic Islands will be available again for the first time since the start of the pandemic. Nevertheless, they will encounter higher demand because travel will continue to normalize this summer," says Stefan Baumert, CEO of Tui Germany.
