Nice Air: Next Iceland startup wants to take off
Another startup wants to take off in Iceland under the brand name Nice Air. Initially, however, they want to start without their own fleet. They want to offer destinations in Spain, Denmark and the UK with a chartered Airbus A319. The owner of the sightseeing flight company Circle Air is behind the project. Nice Air was founded at the beginning of 2020, but the corona pandemic initially put a damper on the plans. They took things slowly because demand was already quite low due to the crisis. They do not want to take off from Keflavik, but from Akureyri. The north of Iceland is considered to be severely underserved in international air traffic. This is exactly what Nice Air wants to change and connect it non-stop with numerous destinations in Europe. The first flight is announced for June 2, 2022, but the destination is still being kept quiet. They cannot fly themselves yet because they do not yet have their own AOC and operating license. But they want to obtain these, because the charter solution is only intended to serve as a stopgap for the beginning. Those responsible do not want to reveal the identity of the operating carrier yet. However, there are now only a few ACMI and charter providers that have the Airbus A319 aircraft in their portfolio.
