25 years ago: James Bond provided Hollywood flair at Hamburg Airport

Filming location Hamburg Airport: For almost 40 years, the Hanseatic city's airport has been a popular film and photo backdrop. Almost 100 film and photo productions are made here every year. The Hanseatic city's airport has long been a popular film and photo backdrop. Camera teams, extras, artists and prominent actors such as Moritz Bleibtreu, Veronica Ferres, Wotan Wilke Möhring, Luna Marie Maxeiner, Smudo and Heiner Lauterbach flock here almost every day. This was also the case exactly 25 years ago, when scenes from the legendary James Bond film "Tomorrow Never Dies" with Pierce Brosnan were filmed at Hamburg Airport for a whole day in March 1997. Several scenes were also to be filmed at Hamburg Airport for the then brand new James Bond film "Tomorrow Never Dies" with actor Pierce Brosnan as 007! If that wasn't a reason for everyone involved to put in a lot of effort - because flight operations also had to continue without disruption despite the immense effort required for the filming. The eleven-hour-long shoot with the James Bond actor of all time was not a secret mission, however: Early on the morning of the day of filming, the then Terminal 4 (now T2) was besieged by hundreds of fans and the entire Hamburg media scene. They all wanted to catch a glimpse of the stars, get an autograph or an interview. The passengers also took their time in Terminal 4 that day. "Tomorrow never dies" was released in cinemas on Christmas 1997 - including a 30-second scene at Hamburg Airport. Aviation as a backdrop Airplanes have also repeatedly served as a popular film backdrop for film and photo productions at Hamburg Airport - for example in the ZDF production

Russia wants to organize spare parts through “middlemen”

Russian aviation is heading for serious problems due to the international sanctions imposed in response to the military attack on Ukraine. The withdrawal of aircraft leased from western leasing companies is comparatively not that problematic. The fact that spare parts can no longer be obtained through the usual channels is hitting carriers much harder. However, the Russian government is playing this down and says that they will simply obtain them via India or Turkey. Negotiations have already begun. The plan: formally, middlemen in the two countries mentioned are to buy the required spare parts and then resell them to Russia. The proposed approach is very reminiscent of Iran, because for many years airlines from this country were unable to buy directly from western aircraft manufacturers. The manufacturers are trying to avoid using "dark channels", but this does not always work. However, Russia must expect that Boeing, Embraer, Airbus and other producers will pay very close attention to where the spare parts are delivered, because they could literally burn their fingers if it becomes public that they are getting to Russia via a detour. At the same time, it can be assumed that the EU and the United States, for example, will put corresponding pressure on Turkey and India and will take a closer look at the deliveries of aircraft spare parts. This brings us back to Iran, where the “homemade brand” has become established. It is not at all far-fetched that Russia will have to go down this path, but it is losing

BER opens Terminal 2: Ryanair becomes the main user

One and a half years after the opening of the new capital airport BER, the second newly built terminal is also going online. Low-cost carrier Ryanair will be the first airline to take off on March 24 with passengers who have checked in at T2. Berlin Brandenburg Airport is putting Terminal 2 (T2) into operation for the summer flight schedule. The main user will be the airline Ryanair. The first departure from the new terminal at BER will also be carried out by the Irish airline on March 24. In the following days, all Ryanair departures will be handled at T2. From the beginning of April, most Ryanair arrivals and some arrivals from other airlines will also be handled via T2, as the airport operator informs. Passengers and those collecting them should find out about the respective terminal in advance. For each flight, the digital display boards at the airport, on the website and in the app indicate whether the take-off or landing will take place at T1 or T2. After checking in and going through security, passengers move across bridges to gates that actually belong to the main Terminal 1. During the years of building the airport, it became clear that T1 would be too small for the predicted passenger numbers. Due to the low passenger numbers during the Corona pandemic, it has not yet been used. Terminal 2 is designed for six million passengers a year.
