Runway 10/28 at Zurich Airport is being renovated

On March 27, 2022, the renovation of the central reservation of runway 10/28 will start at Zurich Airport. Construction work on the main runway will take around 70-80 nights. Runway 10/28 was put into operation in 1948 with a length of 1.900 meters and was extended to its current length of 1959 meters between 1960 and 2.500. It was built with a concrete superstructure whose service life is around 30 years, depending on the intensity of use. After 1985, the 30-year-old central reservation of runway 28 now has to be renewed for the second time because it has reached the end of its service life. The planned renovation will use the same technology as the runway renovation of 14/32 in 2014, according to the airport. During the day, aircraft must be able to take off and land normally on the runway. In connection with the structural renovation of runway 10/28, the approach, runway and taxiway lighting will also be completely renewed. This involves switching from halogen to new, communicative LED lights. These will be connected from the new above-ground transformer stations Riet and Himmelbach and the underground transformer stations Mitte. These were built between 2019 and 2020. Weather challenge Dry weather on construction nights is key to adhering to the tight construction schedule. Under ideal conditions, the renovation can be completed before the summer holidays. In bad weather conditions, the work can continue after the summer break until mid-September, as every night on which construction cannot take place due to bad weather has to be made up.

Austrian Airlines flies to Marrakech again

From October 1.10.2022, 2006, Austrian Airlines will fly twice a week between Vienna and Marrakesh. Austria: Tanner wants to increase defense budget to one percent of GDP

Austria's Defense Minister Klaudia Tanner (ÖVP) wants to increase the budget spent on national defense to around one percent of gross domestic product. Members of all factions agreed that the defense budget needed to be increased. Russia's attack on Ukraine marked a turning point in European history, explained Defense Minister Klaudia Tanner at the start of the debate on the EU annual forecast. It is now becoming clear how important a well-positioned national defense is, especially for a neutral state. Politicians must now do everything they can to strengthen the federal army. Over the years, national defense has not received the budgetary importance it deserves. Now it is time to expand and strengthen core military competencies. The defense budget should therefore be increased to one percent of gross domestic product, Tanner reiterated her goal. The Ukraine crisis has made many reassessments necessary. Not only the budget, but also aspects such as the militia's training activities must be viewed in a different light. The war in Ukraine is still taking place in cyberspace. Effects on Austria cannot be ruled out, but are being monitored on an ongoing basis. The capacities in the area of cyber defense are therefore to be significantly expanded in order to secure Austria's sovereignty in this area as well, explained Tanner. In addition to national defense, the Federal Army is also the country's strategic reserve, the Defense Minister emphasized the assistance missions in the area of supporting health authorities, at the external borders or in the event of natural disasters. The Federal Army is currently also supporting the care of Ukrainian refugees. After Russia's attack on Ukraine, a reassessment of Austria's defense policy is necessary,

Rossiya B747s also affected: Ireland deregisters Russian operators

The Irish Civil Aviation Authority has cancelled the registrations of all aircraft operated by Russian operators that were registered in Ireland. This follows the approach of the Bermuda Islands. This means that these aircraft are also no longer allowed to take off. While around 750 aircraft operated by Russian operators were registered in the Bermuda register, according to CH-Aviation.com there were only 34 in Ireland. This affects Alrosa Airlines with two B737-700s and four B737-800s, iFlyAirlines with six A330-200s and three A330-300s, and Rossiya with nine B747-400s, five B777-300s and five B777-300ERs. Russian President Vladimir Putin has passed a law that is intended to significantly speed up the transfer to the Russian register. The authority has been authorized to issue national certificates for aircraft previously registered in Ireland or the Bermuda Islands. These should enable them to be used domestically. At the same time, it should be made as complicated as possible for lessors to get their property.

Bolzano Airport will have a train station built in front of the terminal

A new train station is to be built in the immediate vicinity of the terminal at Bolzano Airport. According to current plans, it is to go into operation in 2026. This will significantly improve the airport's connectivity. According to a media report by AltoAdigeInnovazione, the new train station will primarily serve the St. Jakob district and will be built on an existing railway line. However, Bolzano Airport will also benefit from this, as the new stop will be built directly opposite the passenger terminal. The construction will be partly financed by the EU FSC 2021-2027 fund. The central government in Rome has already given the green light for the investment in South Tyrol. In addition to the construction of the new train stop on the Verona-Brenner railway line, the construction of an underpass under the railway for cyclists, pedestrians and a track reserved for public transport is also planned. St. Jakob can thus be connected via Francesco Baracca in Bolzano. The stop will be integrated into the public transport network of Bolzano and Leifers, making it easier to reach the Bolzano industrial area. In addition to a new bus stop, a connection to the cycle path network and new access roads are also planned.
