Ethiopian CEO resigns

Ethiopia's national airline must look for a new boss. Tewolde GebreMariam has to give up his post for health reasons. Health reasons have forced Tewolde GebreMariam to step down from the top of Ethiopian Airlines. He has been receiving medical care in the United States for six months, the airline announced in a press release. "Because he has to concentrate on his personal health problems, he is unable to continue to lead the airline, a task that requires a closer presence and full attention around the clock," a press release states. The manager's contract was therefore terminated early after he asked the board for early retirement. Under Tewolde GebreMariam, Ethiopian Airlines rose to become the leading airline in Africa. Within ten years, Tewolde developed the airline from 33 to 130 aircraft and increased passenger numbers from three to twelve million.

FlyDubai temporarily relocates to World Central Airport

Emirates' sister company FlyDubai will be relocating some routes to Dubai World Central Airport (DWC) from May 9, 2022 to June 22, 2022. The reason for this is that DXB is renovating the northern runway. A total of 34 routes are affected and will be temporarily served from DWC. However, the carrier will offer the destinations Alexandria, Entebbe, Kathmandu, Khartoum and Mashhad from both airports. World Central Airport was originally planned to be the world's largest airport. The plan was to build six runways and have the largest passenger capacity ever. The project has since stalled. Corendon takes two A320s on a wet lease from Getjet Airlines

The holiday airline Corendon Airlines is bringing in additional capacity in the form of a wet lease agreement with Getjet Airlines. The carrier from Lithuania with a Maltese branch will be operating two Airbus A1s on behalf of the Turkish airline from April 2022, 320. The two medium-haul jets are to be stationed in Antalya and used from there on various Corendon routes. Corendon competitor SunExpress is currently considering increasing capacity with the help of wet lease aircraft. However, a final decision has not yet been made. Corendon is a group of three airlines: Corendon Airlines is a Turkish aviation company that has a branch in Malta called Corendon Europe. Corendon Dutch Airlines is also part of the group. Managing Director Marc Cezanne is already looking forward to the expanded summer offer. Bremen is offered to the hubs Munich, Frankfurt am Main, Amsterdam and Istanbul. New this summer: It's back to the Greek island of Kos. Also to Fuerteventura, Crete and Rhodes, for example. And with Beirut, Sundair also has an interesting destination for a city trip in its program. "We are very much looking forward to the upcoming summer flight schedule," says Bremen Airport Managing Director Marc Cezanne. "After two years of the corona pandemic, travel restrictions and a very reduced flight offer from the airlines, we hope that our terminals will be filled with lots of holidaymakers and life again. With our airlines, we were able to put together a nice summer offer for travelers in the northwest for the summer of 2022, which we hope will be well received." New to the flight schedule this summer are, for example, four weekly Ryanair flights to Vienna. In addition, there is the diving paradise of Hurghada, which is served by both Sundair and Corendon Airlines. This summer, European Aircharter will fly to Burgas. Sanctions shake Irkut MS-21

The Russian prestige project Irkut MS-21 is increasingly coming to a standstill due to the trade sanctions imposed by the European Union and the United States of America, among others. The United Aircraft Corporation is no longer able to source Western components. However, these are needed because the MS-21 does not consist entirely of parts produced in Russia. The proportion of Western technology and components is quite high, so that the Russian Minister of Trade, Denis Manturov, had no choice but to admit that the required parts cannot be obtained and that Western suppliers are refusing to deliver them. The government member also had to admit that Western suppliers are also refusing to hand over components that have already been paid for in advance. This is a consequence of the sanctions imposed in response to the Russian Federation's military attack on Ukraine. Even the Russian Ministry of Trade now considers it unlikely that the United Aircraft Corporation will be able to deliver series-produced Irkut MS-2024s from 21 onwards. The project has been a high priority so far, as it is the first newly developed medium-haul jet in Russia since the collapse of the Soviet Union. The Putin government is pushing for local airlines to rely more on domestically produced aircraft. Outside of Russia, this model is not a best seller. Ryanair boss Michael O'Leary told Aviation.Direct that he would not take the MS-21 even if he was given money for it.
