Dortmund Airport: More offers than before the pandemic

The new flight schedule offers passengers around 30 percent more destinations than before the pandemic. Travelers can choose from around 50 destinations in more than 20 countries. The number of flight movements has also increased by more than 10 percent compared to the 2019 summer season. "We are pleased with the positive development. There is no question about it - the pandemic has hit us hard too. In a nationwide comparison, however, Dortmund Airport has so far shown itself to be more resilient to pandemic-related travel declines due to its good airline mix," said airport boss Ludger van Bebber. "The desire to travel is unbroken and seems to be increasing with the prospect of the sunny months. We are seeing an increase in bookings and the airlines are responding with a correspondingly diverse and attractive range of flights," continued van Bebber. Wizz Air, for example, offers the largest selection from Dortmund with more than 30 destinations, but Eurowings and Ryanair have also significantly expanded their market share in Dortmund during the pandemic. In addition to established destinations such as Palma de Mallorca, Porto and Budapest, Dortmund Airport is offering holidaymakers new destinations in Turkey this summer. Sun Express is returning to Antalya in the summer flight schedule after a break of several years. From June 30, Zonguldak will be the German-Turkish airline's third destination from Dortmund, alongside Izmir and Antalya - the city on the Black Sea will be directly connected to Dortmund every Thursday. The carrier is also increasing the frequency of connections to Izmir. Trade Air and ETF Airways fly to Pristina. Sun-seekers can also look forward to a selection of Greek destinations. These include:

HAM: Corona causes second negative result in a row

The 2021 financial year was again negatively affected by the corona pandemic: For the second year in a row, Hamburg Airport is in the red. The deficit for 2021 is 94 million euros. The airport's revenue increased by 9,3 million euros (7,8 percent) compared to the previous year due to slightly increasing passenger numbers and strict cost discipline. In addition, an important milestone in climate protection was reached at the end of 2021: Hamburg Airport is the first major commercial airport in Germany to operate in a C02-neutral manner. A significant increase in passenger numbers is expected at Easter and in the summer of 2022. The airport is forecasting a loss of 2022 million euros for the current year 41. Hamburg Airport is aiming for a black zero in 2023, and from 2024 the airport plans to be in the black again. "The recovery of air traffic fell well short of expectations due to the ongoing corona pandemic. 2021 was another difficult financial year," says Michael Eggenschwiler, CEO of Hamburg Airport. "But we are dealing with the unprecedented crisis responsibly: We have reduced our expenses to a minimum and increased effectiveness. To achieve this, all employees at Hamburg Airport are pulling together." Fluctuating traffic figures, but air freight almost at pre-crisis levels The recovery of air traffic in 2021 was significantly weaker than originally expected. The year started with a lockdown. Over the summer, traffic figures at Hamburg Airport rose gradually, but stagnated at 40 to 50 percent of pre-coronavirus levels. A popular travel time was the autumn holidays: In October, Hamburg Airport counted over 950.000 passengers - almost 60 percent of the previous year.

Lack of bookings: Green Airlines had to cancel flights

Weeze Airport is using an intrusive pop-up to advertise the flights announced by ticket seller Green Airlines, which are to be operated from March 28, 2022. However, this has not happened yet, as no flights have been operated due to a lack of bookings. A spokeswoman for the ticket sales company confirmed to Aviation.Direct that the flights planned for March 28 and 29, 2022 had to be canceled. "The reason for this is that the flights were hardly or not at all booked during this period. In view of these circumstances, the concept of environmentally friendly air travel could no longer have been maintained. Green Airlines regrets this circumstance and apologizes to the passengers affected for the inconvenience caused. Passengers with bookings during the affected period will receive a full refund of the ticket costs," said the media officer. The company did not answer the question of who is actually supposed to operate the flights marketed by Green Airlines. Currently, flight tickets are sold without mentioning the operating carrier under the fictitious IATA two-letter code GN. This is not assigned to any airline.

Australia: Obligation to test for vaccinated people

For fully vaccinated holidaymakers who want to travel to Australia, the entry requirements will be relaxed. From April 17, a negative test for the coronavirus will no longer have to be presented upon entry. However, entry will still be more difficult for people who cannot provide proof of vaccination. They will still have to apply for an exemption if they want to visit Australia. The mask requirement at airports and on board aircraft or cruise ships will also remain in place, as Reise-vor-9 reports. Until April 16, holidaymakers must continue to present a PCR test that is no more than 72 hours old or an antigen test that is no more than 24 hours old upon entry. An entry form must also be filled out. As part of the new entry regulations, it was also announced that international cruises would also be allowed again from April 17. Guests on a cruise ship must therefore be vaccinated against the coronavirus at least twice. In addition, a mask requirement applies in many areas on board cruise ships, as Check24 reports. In the pre-pandemic year of 2019, about 600.000 passengers arrived in Australia on cruises.

Avion Express and Air Baltic with 15 aircraft for Eurowings

There are now 13 more wet-lease aircraft in the air for the German airline Eurowings. These are operated by Air Baltic and Avion Express Malta from Stuttgart and Düsseldorf. The carrier recently confirmed that another aircraft will be leased shortly. The Airbus A220 aircraft type operated by Air Baltic under ACMI contracts will be used from Düsseldorf. In the 2021/2022 winter flight schedule, the Latvian company operated two aircraft for Eurowings from Stuttgart. The two A220s were moved to the state capital of North Rhine-Westphalia. The YL-CSE, YL-CSM, YL-CSN, YL-AAQ and YL-AAR are now in use there on behalf of the Lufthansa subsidiary. For its sister company Eurowings Discover, Air Baltic will probably fly with two Airbus A2022s from Munich from May 220. Aviation.Direct has provided a portrait of the wet-lease flights for Eurowings at this link. Furthermore, three Airbus A320s from Avion Express Malta are stationed in Düsseldorf. Just like the Air Baltic planes, these were not repainted in the design of the client. Some of the planes are completely white, some still have the livery of the previous operator. From Düsseldorf, Avion Express Malta flies the following A320s for Eurowings: 9H-AMX, 9H-AMX and 9H-MLB. From Stuttgart, no A220-300s from Air Baltic are in use for the Lufthansa budget airline, which wants to position itself as a "value carrier" following the example of Jetblue. These two planes were - as mentioned - "moved" to Düsseldorf. Instead, Avion Express Malta flies seven A320s for Eurowings. These are the following planes: 9H-AMH, 9H-AMI, 9H-AMJ, 9H-AMK, 9H-AML, 9H-AMP and
