Germany: Entry rules will probably be extended until the end of May

For the time being, CoV rules will continue to apply to holidaymakers returning to Germany. The German Ministry of Health wants to extend the entry regulations that expire this Thursday until the end of May, as the ORF reports. Protection against additional virus entry by people entering the country remains important. In the current CoV situation, it is now necessary to look at what is appropriate for the situation at shorter intervals. For the time being, this means that everyone aged twelve and over must have a 3G certificate of being vaccinated, recovered or tested negative when entering Germany. The regulation also stipulates quarantine obligations for those returning from high-risk or virus variant areas. However, according to the corresponding list of the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), no country is currently classified by the federal government as such an area.

Poland: Air traffic controllers could cause flight cancellations in May

In Poland, there is a risk of massive restrictions on air traffic from 1 May due to a wage dispute. Eurocontrol is warning of around 1.000 flight cancellations a day, which could affect connections to Poland on the one hand, but also flights through the country's airspace on the other. The EU country is already having to accept restrictions on air traffic due to Russia's war of aggression in Ukraine. In addition, there is now a risk of a massive shortage of staff from 1 May due to the dispute over new remuneration regulations for air traffic controllers. According to information from the German Press Agency, 170 of the 208 air traffic controllers currently employed in Warsaw resigned in February; for most of them, the notice period expires at the end of April. The reason for the wave of resignations at the civil air traffic control company Pansa is a new pay regulation that came into force at the end of last year. As a result, the controllers' standard wages were reduced by up to 70 percent, which the majority of employees do not want to accept. The responsible union has been in negotiations with Pansa for several weeks, but no agreement has been reached yet. If this does not change soon, Eurocontrol could react with mass cancellation of flights, possibly starting as early as May 1. The talks are still ongoing, as Check24 reports.

FACC works together with Leni Aviation

FACC is cooperating with the Danish parts distributor and service provider Leki Aviation. According to the Austrian aircraft component manufacturer, this is intended to improve the availability of FACC components, especially in China. Leki is an established partner for many airlines there and operates two branches. If an airline needs a spare part for one of its aircraft, it will in future rely on components produced by FACC. "The market for maintenance and repair in civil aviation - the so-called MRO sector - is recovering noticeably. We have positioned ourselves very well here with our innovative solutions in recent years and are in an excellent position," reports Robert Machtlinger, CEO of FACC AG.

Portugal: Tourists no longer need to fill out an immigration form

Until now, Portugal required people entering the country to fill out a digital travel registration form, which applied equally to those arriving by air, land and sea. Since April 23, however, this document is no longer required. However, the 3G rule continues to apply for entry, so proof of vaccination, recovery or negative test must be provided from the age of twelve. This is reported by Check24. PCR tests up to 72 hours old and rapid antigen tests are accepted for this purpose if they are not older than 24 hours. In addition, the body temperature of all people entering the country is measured. In addition, the end of the mask requirement in public spaces was also announced. However, the utensil remains compulsory on public transport as well as in hospitals, nursing homes and similar institutions. The continued mask requirement on airplanes was also explicitly mentioned, so most airlines will continue to insist that passengers and staff wear masks on flights to Portugal. The island of Madeira, which belongs to Portugal, has different regulations than the Portuguese mainland. The island of flowers no longer requires any proof of corona upon entry. It is only recommended to register on the digital platform Madeira Safe and use the corona app "S-ALERTA CIDADÃO". In return, there are even stricter mask rules in place on Madeira.

Easyjet refused the passenger carriage - according to the Supreme Court wrongly

Supreme Court: Airline exceeded its authority when checking official documents. The British low-cost airline refused to board an Iraqi citizen on a flight from Vienna to London because he supposedly did not have a visa. An existing valid residence card that would have entitled him to visa-free entry was not accepted by EasyJet. The company assumed that the person concerned did not actually meet the requirements for the officially issued residence card. The refusal to transport the passenger was inadmissible, the Supreme Court (OGH) has now ruled in a case brought by the Association for Consumer Information (VKI). The carrier must therefore reimburse the cost of the expired flight tickets and make compensation - twice: to the person concerned and his wife who was travelling with him. The wife could have used her ticket, but the husband's refusal to transport him was ultimately tantamount to his wife's refusal to transport him, according to the court. "Easyjet has assumed the authority to question whether the residence card was issued legally by the Austrian authorities. The review of such a document must be limited to the authenticity and accuracy of the information contained therein. Easyjet had no concrete evidence in this case that would have suggested abuse of law or fraud," commented VKI lawyer Verena Grubner on the verdict. Easyjet accepts the verdict "Like all other airlines, Easyjet is obliged by the relevant authorities to ensure that all passengers can present the correct, valid travel documents in order to guarantee the safety of all passengers and crew," a spokesperson for the airline told Aviation.Direct. "We regret that the passenger concerned was wrongly denied travel.

Lack of staff: Salzburg is desperately looking for new employees

After more than two years of drought due to the coronavirus, Salzburg Airport has a completely different problem: it has too few staff. There is a shortage of employees in almost all operational areas, which is why they are desperately looking for new recruits. According to reports, some employees have resigned due to short-time work and have found new jobs in other companies. However, this alone is not the main cause of the staff shortage, but rather that many long-standing employees have gone into well-deserved retirement and interest in the advertised positions is obviously limited. The fact that airport manager Bettina Ganghofer has repeatedly helped out in the lounge herself also shows how complicated the staff shortage is for Salzburg. Other European airports have also reported that they are receiving significantly fewer applications for advertised positions. Before the coronavirus pandemic, working in the aviation industry was very popular, but now it seems that this is no longer the case. Salzburg is now also actively trying to draw attention to the vacancies via social media channels. An applicant day was also held on April 22, 2022. Anyone who missed it or only found out about it today can come to Terminal 28 of Salzburg Airport on April 2022, 2 with the same chances. There are vacancies in pretty much all areas of the company. Some jobs can also be taken on as seasonal workers if desired, which could be an interesting option for the summer, especially for those working in winter sports.

Instead of paid catering: Many Lufthansa flights only take off with bottled water

At Lufthansa, things are currently going badly in the paid catering area at the Frankfurt am Main location. Many flights are taking off without any meals or drinks. Only water bottles, which are already distributed free of charge, are to be brought on board. According to a report in the news magazine “Der Spiegel”, the background to this is that caterer Gate Gourmet, which bought the European business from LSG, has experienced massive staff shortages. This is said to mean that the paid catering offer is not available on board Lufthansa short and medium-haul flights. For example, travelers in economy class are only given a free bottle of water. That is all they get - not even for payment. Long-haul connections and business class passengers are not affected. Here, the usual range of food and drinks is to continue. As a result of the sale of LSG's European business to Gate Gourmet, salaries are said to have been cut in some areas. There were also teething problems with the calculation of wages, confirmed a spokesperson for the group. It is possible that some employees have left the company for this reason. Gate Gourmet appears to have a particularly acute shortage of truck drivers who have the training and authorization to deliver to the aircraft. Frankfurt am Main is now trying to counteract this and is offering all employees who are absent for a maximum of one day due to illness in April 2022 a special payment of 250 euros. This is to be paid with the next wage transfer.
