Contactless travel at Hamburg Airport

“Camera on” is now the motto at Hamburg Airport. After a successful introductory phase, Star Alliance’s biometric facial recognition is now officially launching there. With the new service, participating Austrian, SWISS and Lufthansa passengers can get through the security check and boarding gates quickly and contactlessly. In future, a single glance will be enough – without a boarding pass or smartphone. How does it work? Participants in the Miles & More loyalty program register for Star Alliance Biometrics once, at least 24 hours before their next Austrian, Lufthansa or Swiss flight. To do this, they need their valid passport and the latest version of the Lufthansa app or Miles & More app. As soon as they have registered, they can pass through the central security check and boarding gates A17 and C16 at Hamburg Airport without contact. The entrances at the gate and at the fast lanes of the central security check are visibly marked. Your face is automatically captured by the camera and compared with your stored image. Travelers can keep their mouth and nose coverings, which they currently have to wear in the terminal for health protection, on. If there is a positive match, the entrances open automatically. "We are pleased that Lufthansa, Austrian and SWISS are now also offering Star Alliance biometric facial recognition at Hamburg Airport," says Mirjam Fröhlich, Head of Passenger and Baggage Management at Hamburg Airport. "This increases the convenience for participating passengers at the entrance to the security check and at selected gates. The new technology enables additional time savings and ensures that the control process at central points at the airport is even smoother.

Graz Airport is auctioning off parts of the old vehicle fleet

Graz Airport is selling old equipment that is no longer in use as part of an online auction. In order to ensure smooth operations when handling aircraft and passengers, in the winter service and for the fire service, equipment that can be relied on is necessary - in all weathers and at all temperatures. The use of old equipment is therefore a technical risk factor from a certain point onwards, according to a press release from the airport. For this reason, GRZ is saying goodbye to the decommissioned equipment - it will be put up for reuse as part of an auction. 50 pieces of equipment, from a fire service and firefighting vehicle to a catering vehicle and small workshop parts such as a sandblasting or welding device, will be for sale at the public auction. The auction is being carried out by Troostwijk Auctions. The items up for auction will be released on April 29.04th and can be viewed at the airport on May 16.05th from 08:00 a.m. to 15:00 p.m. "The vehicle fleet of an airport is part of its lifeline, it is crucial for the punctual and smooth handling of flights," explains Wolfgang Grimus, Managing Director of Graz Airport. "It is therefore necessary to upgrade regularly in order to be technically up to date."

Egyptair: Cigarette in cockpit probably the reason for plane crash

The crash of an Egyptian airline plane over the Mediterranean in 2016 was apparently caused by a fire caused by a cigarette being smoked in the cockpit. This was reported yesterday by the Italian newspaper "Il Corriere della Sera", citing a report that French experts submitted to the court in Paris in March. According to the experts' assessment, the fire broke out after oxygen from an oxygen mask ignited on a cigarette smoked by the pilot or co-pilot. According to the Italian newspaper, the recordings from the plane's flight recorder confirm this suspicion. Egyptair flight MS804 crashed over the Mediterranean on May 19, 2016 en route from Paris to Cairo. 66 people died. While the Egyptian authorities initially assumed it was an attack, French investigators doubted this theory from the outset.

Emirates is giving 15 more Airbus A380s Premium Economy Class

Gulf carrier Emirates Airline is relying on the Airbus A380 for even longer than previously announced. The company announced that 15 more superjumbos will receive the new cabin. Emirates is the world's largest Airbus A380 operator. In November of last year, it was announced that the cabins of a total of 52 aircraft would be upgraded. Among other things, a premium economy class will be installed. The same decision was taken for 53 Boeing 777s. The carrier has now announced that 15 more superjumbos will receive the new passenger cabin. The move is justified by the fact that the aircraft will remain in service longer than originally thought. This also protects Emirates against delivery delays for the Boeing 777X aircraft.

Vienna Airport: Free book available in the duty-free shop

In return for a free donation to benefit the victims of the war in Ukraine, passengers at Vienna-Schwechat Airport can receive a free book in the Gebrüder Heinemann duty-free shops. It is entitled "Among Germans", a humorous reflection on Austrian and German character, written by Christian Moser. The Austrian author has been traveling in Germany and Austria for many years, both privately and professionally, and describes his experiences in both cultures and character in humorous stories. The fact that a word can have completely opposite meanings, that the bureaucracy in both countries neighs happily, and that Corona reinforces some behavioral originality are just a few of the impressions that the long-time communications consultant, university lecturer, journalist and now also author describes in his book with a wink. The book is available from today in Terminal 2 right next to the Heinemann shop. All proceeds go to the Neighbor in Need initiative and the victims of the Ukraine war. Christian Moser has been many things: warehouse worker, tennis instructor, political consultant, radio and television producer, university lecturer are just a fraction of his activities. He has never been a landlord. For many years, the experienced communications consultant has been active not only in Austria, but also in Germany, advising personalities from business and politics. During his countless trips and stays, especially in Berlin, Hanover and Vienna, he has experienced a lot - and written it down with humor. In his recently published debut work "Among Germans" he tells, with a wink, in stories and anecdotes, what separates the Austrians from their German neighbors, but also what connects them. Because while in Germany they say: "The

Stockholm: Eurowings offers pilots up to 10.000 euros for signing contracts

So-called signature bonuses are making a comeback at the Eurowings Europe base in Stockholm-Arlanda. First officers and captains can benefit from them. Commanders with a valid TR for Airbus A320 can expect up to 10.000 euros if they commit themselves for two years. Immediately after the collapse of the Air Berlin Group, several airlines, including Eurowings, Luftfahrtgesellschaft Walter, Laudamotion, Wizz Air, Austrian Airlines and Easyjet Europe, were urgently looking for A320 pilots. They were able to collect handsome bonuses for signing their contracts. The Corona pandemic meant that many airlines had too many pilots. Some even increased wages or even cut jobs. Eurowings Europe probably imagined that recruiting pilots in Stockholm would be easier. Now they are trying to attract captains with a valid Airbus A320 type rating with the help of bonuses. Five aircraft of this type are stationed locally. Currently, a significant portion of the staff is provided by the Vienna base. First officers can receive a signing bonus of up to 5.000 euros.
