Despite insolvency: staff shortage also at Hahn

Even the insolvent Frankfurt-Hahn airport is currently suffering from a shortage of staff. Insolvency administrator Jan Markus Plathner is looking for new employees. Most recently, the Easter travel wave gave the Hunsrück airport a new boost. The lawyer confirmed that flight operations can be maintained in May 2022. Additional employees are being sought, particularly in the area of ground handling services. The insolvent airport currently employs around 430 people. In October 2021, Frankfurt-Hahn had to file for bankruptcy. The background to this was that the Chinese majority owner HNA collapsed under the mountain of debt it had accumulated over many years. The German regional airport was also drawn into this maelstrom. According to official information, several interested parties are said to be interested in taking over the airport.

Aida abolishes mandatory PCR

The shipping company Aida Cruises is removing the requirement to present a negative PCR result upon boarding, effective April 28, 2022. However, it is still required that at least one negative rapid antigen test result is presented. The company announced, among other things, that the change was made on the basis of scientific findings. All passengers aged three and over must be able to present the antigen result. From the age of 12, you must also be fully vaccinated against corona. It was only recently announced that Aida Cruises is no longer insisting on the so-called booster vaccinations, but that two jabs are again sufficient for boarding. In February 2022, due to the fact that the cruise industry was in the crossfire of criticism, it was introduced that only people who had been vaccinated against Covid-19 three times were allowed on board. Aida is not significantly relaxing the mask requirement. The wearing of medical masks is still required in almost all public interior areas of the ships. Private cabins are obviously excluded from this.

Italy: Aeroitalia wants to set up long-haul hub in Forli

The Italian startup Aeroitalia wants to set up a hub at Forli Airport. The first scheduled flights are scheduled to take off from this airport as early as next month. The company explained that it is financed entirely from private sources. The logo and livery of the new company are obviously based on the former flag carrier Alitalia. However, there is no connection between the two companies. According to the company, the Aeroitalia brand stands for warmth, care, excellence and beauty, among other things. The company has been officially an airline since April 22, 2022, because that is the day on which it was granted AOC and operating license by the Italian Civil Aviation Authority. Initially, the company plans to operate a few charter flights. The first scheduled flights will be served from May 2022. The company also wants to go long-haul, but a feeder network to Forli will first be set up. Initially, the company plans to start with five Boeing 737-800s. However, the company is still tight-lipped about the routes and pointed out at a press conference that the first two routes will be communicated in the next few days. One of the reasons for choosing Forli was that this airport in Emilia-Romagna is underserved. In contrast to Rimini and Bologna, there are only a few regular flights from Forli. Low-cost airlines have not really shown any interest in this airport in recent years. Air Dolomiti wants to establish a connection to the Lufthansa hub in Munich, but this route has been repeatedly suspended. Albawings, among others, offers charter flights to Tirana. The Greek Lumiwings offered some domestic flights last year, but the connections are

Pilot tariff conflict: Poland threatens chaos from May 1, 2022

A wage dispute at the Polish air traffic control company Pansa could lead to numerous flight cancellations from May 1, 2022. The country's largest airline, Lot, warns that up to 75 percent of connections from Warsaw-Chopin alone could be canceled. There is still hope that Pansa and the air traffic controllers' union will reach an agreement by then. But the fronts are hardened. Lot fears that around 2022 passengers could be affected by industrial action-related restrictions in May 50.000. Like all other airlines, it has no influence on this. The salaries of Polish air traffic controllers have been reduced by up to 70 percent due to the corona pandemic, among other things. But those affected do not want to accept that. In Warsaw alone, 170 air traffic controllers are on notice. This means that there will also be an acute shortage of staff from May 1, 2022. The Polish Civil Aviation Authority has already decreed that from this date the maximum number of take-offs and landings from Chopin and Modlin can be limited to 180 movements per day. Operating hours will be limited to 9:30 a.m. to 17:00 p.m.

Call option: No decision on Klagenfurt Airport yet

The supervisory board meeting of the Carinthian Investment Management on Tuesday evening did not bring about a decision on the possible repurchase of the majority shareholding in Klagenfurt Airport held by Lilihill. The committee plans to meet again on Monday. The state government is divided on how to proceed. The ÖVP, led by state councillor Martin Gruber, is pushing for the call option to be exercised. This would bring the airport back into majority ownership by the state of Carinthia via the state-owned KBV. The SPÖ, which provides the state governor, sees no reason for this. Regardless of this: a possible resolution by the KBV supervisory board alone is not sufficient to exercise the call option. The state parliament would then have to make the corresponding resolution and a majority for this is currently questionable given the disagreement between the SPÖ and the ÖVP. The KBV supervisory board meeting lasted until shortly before midnight on the night of Tuesday to Wednesday. They plan to review further documents and papers by next Monday. The meeting will then continue from 17:00 p.m. and a vote will be taken on the possible exercise of the call option.
