Berlin launches the Welcome Card for nine-euro ticket holders

The German capital Berlin is expecting an increased influx of tourists, partly due to the introduction of the "nine-euro ticket", which will be valid for regional transport throughout Germany from June 1, 2022. For this reason, a special "Berlin Welcome Card" is being launched. Advance sales of the so-called "nine-euro ticket" have already begun. It is available online and at ticket machines, among other places. In the calendar months of June, July and August 2022, public transport in regional transport should be able to be used nationwide for nine euros per month. However, long-distance transport such as Intercity, Eurocity, IntercityExpress, Flixbus and Flixtrain are not included. The ticket, which is subsidized by the public sector, is actually intended to make it cheaper for commuters to switch to public transport. However, it is expected that many Germans will also take tourist trips despite longer travel times, as the ticket is only valid for regional transport, but nationwide. This is expressly not prohibited. The tourism management of the German capital Berlin is launching a special summer edition of the Welcome Card for the calendar months of June, July and August 2022. This is aimed at guests who already have a ticket for local public transport, for example the nine-euro ticket, and want to visit attractions in Berlin and Potsdam. According to the announcement, discounts will be available in both cities for 180 participants. The discount card costs nine euros and is valid for 72 hours. Some attractions are even included in the card. If you want free entry to various museums, for example Berlin's Museum Island, you have to go for the more expensive version. This costs 25 euros. In the premium version, available for 69 euros, the

Flying Cathay employees must be monitored via an app

The management of the Chinese special administrative region of Hong Kong has required the airline Cathay Pacific to require its crew members to use a special app. This records all locations and is intended to be used for monitoring after returning from international flights. The procedure is controversial to say the least, because officially it says that crew members must undergo two weeks of medical monitoring after international service. During the first seven days, all locations and activities are to be documented automatically. According to an internal circular, Cathay Pacific's "Crew Activity Log App" is used for this purpose. This was specially developed for the purpose. But that's not all: In addition to monitoring and the obligation to enter data in the "Leave Home Safe App", employees must also enter or transfer data into the crew app during the first seven days. You have to specify in detail when you left the house, who you met and, of course, give a reason. In addition, both the airline and the management of the special administrative region want regular entries on health status. This obsession with collecting data is not entirely new, as there was already a form. This had to be filled out on paper and was therefore far less powerful than an app that can record the exact location of the airline employee at any time using GPS and other methods. There is also a completely absurd circumstance: the seven-day quarantine that flying personnel had to observe after international flights has been reduced to three days. Nevertheless, the company wants to collect location data of crew members for at least a week. The official reason for the requirement, because

Base Vienna: Wizz Air is urgently looking for additional staff

The low-cost airline Wizz Air is currently looking for staff to be deployed from its Vienna base. According to reports, the carrier currently has too few employees for the summer of 2022, especially in the area of flight attendants. The Hungarian low-cost airline's presence is significantly smaller this year than before the corona pandemic, because the announced expansion of the Vienna base has not materialized. The carrier has withdrawn aircraft and canceled numerous routes. Typical holiday destinations such as Palma de Mallorca have also fallen victim to the "cutbacks". In contrast to Austrian Airlines, the Wizz Air branch registered in the Austrian commercial register did not report short-time work. The flying staff were repeatedly only paid their basic wage due to a lack of flights. This is not particularly high and has led to many flight attendants leaving the company and looking for new jobs in other industries. The low-cost airline now wants to hire new employees who are needed at the greatly reduced Vienna base. Despite the fact that there are significantly fewer aircraft stationed in the Austrian capital and that, according to the company, only 38 destinations in 23 countries are served, there is obviously an urgent need for additional workers. The company is looking for people with previous experience as well as newcomers and career changers. "We are delighted to be able to start again as usual this summer and to fly many new routes from the base in Vienna. We have noticed that the desire to travel is now even greater after the Corona-related break, which is also reflected in our booking figures. We are therefore looking for

Austro Control sees itself optimally prepared for the summer peak

The Austrian air traffic control authority Austro Control believes that it is well prepared for the summer of 2022. Flight volume is already said to be close to pre-crisis levels, with increased use of Austrian airspace expected during peak travel season. After the slump in aviation traffic due to the corona pandemic, things are now picking up again significantly. While traffic was even weaker at the beginning of the year due to the Omicron variants, air traffic is now approaching the level of 2019 again. In overflights, the air traffic figures from 2019 have already been reached and, according to forecasts, will even be exceeded in the summer. Over 3.500 flight movements per day are then expected for Austrian airspace; currently there are around 3.000. For Vienna Airport, the traffic level is currently at 650% with around 80 take-offs and landings per day and is expected to rise to around 90% over the summer compared to 2019. The ACG emphasizes that the time during the crisis was used to train the controllers and prepare them to cope with a higher volume of traffic. Due to the low frequency of live traffic, this was increasingly ensured by training in the simulator. Austro Control also announced that it continued training during the low-traffic period and increased the number of staff. This will enable it to be able to optimally control the airspace in summer 2022. As part of an applicant day, which will be held on June 11, 2022, it is again looking for high school graduates who are interested in the profession of air traffic controller. The training lasts around three years and takes place in
