Netherlands: Air Malta is relocating individual routes to Rotterdam

Due to the fact that capacity is being restricted at Amsterdam-Schiphol Airport, the airline Air Malta has to shift some of its scheduled flights for July 2022 to Rotterdam. All airlines that have Schiphol in their route network have to reduce their services. The reason for this is that there is an acute shortage of staff at the Netherlands' largest airport. This cannot be remedied in the short term, so maximum limits have been introduced on the number of passengers who can use Schiphol every day. Some airlines are shifting at least some of their planned services to other airports. For example, Royal Jordanian has chosen Maastricht. Air Malta will shift the KM386/387 flight pairs to Rotterdam on Mondays and noon between July 11 and July 27, 2022. In a media statement, the company regrets the circumstances, but stresses that it has no other option.

Further cancellations follow: Lufthansa restricts ticket sales

The Lufthansa Supervisory Board is meeting for an unscheduled special meeting. The background to this is that the group will cancel further flights in July and August 2022 and, according to Handelsblatt, employee representatives are of the opinion that the Executive Board did not adequately inform the Supervisory Board about the full extent of the flight chaos. In the meantime, Lufthansa has severely restricted the sale of flight tickets. Across the route network, the cheapest fare classes have been "zeroed out", i.e. taken off sale. Intensive work is currently being carried out to rebook passengers affected by cancellations onto other connections. According to the current information, this process is expected to last until July 6, 2022. The booking system will then be reopened as normal. The current sales restrictions primarily affect short- and medium-haul destinations and destinations within Germany. Tickets are only available in the most expensive booking classes. Lufthansa wants to keep "space" free for passengers who have to be rebooked due to further upcoming cancellations. The entire calendar month of July 2022 and partly also August 2022 are affected. It is already certain that Lufthansa will not be able to operate at least 3.000 flights in these two months. In view of the current sales restrictions, it can be assumed that this will be extended. It is expected that around 2022 more flights could be cancelled before the cheaper fare classes are released for the period up to and including September 5.000. The group of companies intends to comment on this in the next few days and communicate the full extent for the time being.

BER: Easyjet allows free baggage check-in the evening before

The low-cost airline is offering its passengers who fly from BER a new service just in time for the start of the holidays: From July 1st, travelers can drop off their luggage the evening before their flight free of charge. However, this only applies to morning departures. From July 1st, the so-called evening bag drop can be used by travelers free of charge every day between 18 p.m. and 21 p.m. The airline wants to avoid long queues at the baggage drop-off point and also enables its customers to save time on the day of departure. However, the offer only applies to around 30 percent of Easyjet flights at the capital's airport. The service can only be used by travelers whose flight is scheduled to take off by 9:30 a.m. Berlin Brandenburg Airport is the second airport at which Easyjet offers free baggage drop-off the evening before. It had previously been tested at London Gatwick Airport. Other airports are expected to follow suit in the future, as Check24 reports.

Edelweiss fleets special Airbus A320

The latest addition to Edelweiss' fleet features an unusual design. The familiar red nose and the red background on the tail fin have been replaced by countless red hands. They symbolize the helping hands of the Lufthansa Group aid organization Help Alliance and Edelweiss. Both organizations have maintained a close partnership for five years: "Help Alliance and Edelweiss together support social projects at Edelweiss holiday destinations. Through our joint commitment, we have been able to give young people in Costa Rica, Vietnam, South Africa and Sri Lanka a better life with various projects in recent years," says Edelweiss CEO Bernd Bauer. The Edelweiss Airbus A320 HB-JLT is the first aircraft of a Lufthansa Group airline to fly with a dedicated design in connection with the Help Alliance. "The aircraft is intended to draw attention to our global social commitment and help to make our non-profit organization even better known. The future of young people living in poverty is our most important destination," says Andrea Pernkopf, Managing Director of the Help Alliance. HB-JLT is christened "Madrisa" For six years, the leading Swiss holiday airline has been naming its aircraft after regions where the queen of the Alpine flowers is native, in line with the motto "Where Edelweiss is at home". The aircraft is christened "Madrisa" and is already the third aircraft to be named after a region in the canton of Graubünden. In the next few days, another aircraft will join Edelweiss; however, this one will have the usual livery, as the carrier announced in a press release. Edelweiss now has 12 Airbus A320s in its fleet.

After a proud eleven-year break, TAAG Angola is once again connecting the capitals of Angola and Spain. Before that, the Spanish Iberia followed suit until 2016, before the IAG subsidiary discontinued the Luanda route. TAAG now offers two weekly rotations to/from Madrid. However, there were not very many passengers on the first flight, as only 17 travelers got off in the Spanish capital. Nevertheless, the airline is confident that it will be possible to develop the route, which has been left fallow for eleven years, into a commercially successful business route. The carrier has been serving this route since June 27, 2022 with Boeing 777-300ERs. These have 293 seats. The outbound flights are offered on Sundays and Thursdays. The return flights to Luanda are on Mondays and Fridays. On board there are 12 full-flat seats in First Class, 56 full-flat seats in Business Class and 225 in Economy Class.
