ZRH: Edelweiss picks up luggage from home

Edelweiss, in cooperation with Flying Bag, is now offering all guests flying via Zurich Airport a luggage pickup service at home or in a Swiss hotel. In addition to transporting luggage to the airport, baggage drop-off and safe delivery to any Edelweiss destination are also ensured. The provider cites the following advantages: no lugging around when arriving at the airport and no unnecessarily long waiting times when dropping off luggage. Passengers choose the pickup time slot the day before or even on the day of the flight and hand the luggage over to the driver. These trips can also be CO₂-compensated. The offer not only includes picking up luggage in Switzerland, the luggage journey home can also be booked, as the Swiss travel portal About Travel reports. Passengers drop off their luggage at the destination as usual. In Zurich, Flying Bag takes the luggage from the collection belt and transports it to the desired destination in Switzerland. This means that the journey home can also take place without any luggage.

Munich Airport counted around 13 million passengers in the first half of the year

The dynamic upward trend at Munich Airport is reflected in the traffic results for the first half of 2022: With around 13 million passengers, the entire annual volume of 2021 has already been exceeded in the first six months. Compared to the first six months of the previous year, passenger numbers have increased more than fivefold. The steep upward trend is evident in a comparison of the two quarters: While there were only around four million passengers in the first quarter of 2022, more than twice as many passengers were handled in Munich in the second quarter, at around nine million. In June, Munich Airport already reached three quarters of its volume from the same month in the record year of 2019. Seat utilization in Munich was at a record level of 84 percent in June. The airlines responded to the high demand for air travel by significantly expanding their flight offerings from Munich: while only around 2021 flight movements were registered in the first half of 40.000, there were more than three times as many in the first six months of this year, with over 129.000 takeoffs and landings. In addition, travelers in Munich now have significantly more destinations available to them: while around 100 travel destinations worldwide were accessible from Munich last year, there will be up to 200 destinations this summer. The airport's cargo business is also benefiting from the increase in air traffic in Munich: with a total volume of around 127.000 tons, the cargo tonnage has doubled compared to the same period last year.

10.300 flights canceled: British Airways cuts summer flight schedule in a big way

The IAG subsidiary British Airways has announced that a further 10.300 flights will be cancelled on short and medium-haul routes by the end of October. The company made the adjustment to the 2022 summer flight schedule immediately before the expiry of a deadline granted by the British Civil Aviation Authority. UK allows carriers to adapt their plans until Friday inclusive without running the risk of losing coveted take-off and landing rights. The aim is to ensure that feasible flight plans are submitted due to the acute shortage of staff at airports and also at airlines. In recent weeks, there have been repeated extremely long queues in the United Kingdom. Many flights have also had to be cancelled due to a lack of staff. The extent of the cuts at British Airways is around 13 percent of the originally planned 2022 summer flight schedule. Affected passengers will be rebooked onto other flights if possible and offered a full refund of the ticket price as an alternative.
