E195-E2: Embraer made first type landing at London City

The Brazilian aircraft manufacturer Embraer wants E195-E2 aircraft to be allowed to take off and land at London City Airport in the future. There is great potential for this model at the inner-city airport of the British capital. For this reason, a test flight was carried out last week. At the same time, this means that the first landing of the type was carried out at London City Airport. Embraer President Arjan Meijer expects to receive the necessary certification by the end of 2022. The manager's argument for use at London City Airport is, among other things, that this model should be 65 percent quieter than comparable aircraft. In order to be allowed to fly to the inner-city airport, a special steep approach approval is required. Embraer is currently in the middle of the approval process.

The Japanese budget airline Zipair is now offering meals with insect powder. These are available as part of pre-order meals. In Asia, however, some species are part of the regular menu. Some are even considered a delicacy. Zipair is now also offering meals that have been prepared with insect powder or sprinkled with it. Interestingly, the budget airline is promoting the two new cricket meals as being environmentally friendly. Among other things, the high nutritional value and the absence of conventional factory farming are the arguments used. The two dishes that contain ground cricket powder (or Gryllus powder) are the Chili Burger with Tomato and the Pasta Pescatore. According to Zipair, the Gryllus powder is contained in the buns, the patty and the spicy tomato sauce of the burger. The pasta option consists of soft-shell crabs, squid and mussels cooked in a tomato sauce with gryllus powder.

Quarterly figures: Ryanair Group back in the black

The Ryanair Group flew a surplus of 2022 million euros in the first half of the current financial year, which ended at the end of June 188. This is around 20 percent above the latest analyst forecast. The low-cost airline found fuel hedging transactions particularly useful, as it secured most of its fuel requirements at a low price. CEO Michael O'Leary recently announced that it was paying 65 US dollars per ton. In the same period last year, the Ryanair Group flew a loss of 273 million euros. The offer has been greatly expanded. According to the Group CEO, it should be 15 percent above the pre-crisis level. The fact that Ryanair flies to many smaller airports should also mean that it is largely spared the chaos at various large airports. In the recently concluded financial quarter, it had around 45,5 million passengers on board with a capacity utilization of 93 percent. In the same period last year, the load factor was 73 percent. Sales increased sevenfold to 2,6 billion euros. However, the management team around Michael O'Leary does not want to give a profit forecast for the full financial year due to numerous uncertainties such as the war in Ukraine and the further development of the corona pandemic.

Lufthansa: Verdi is calling on ground staff for a warning strike on Wednesday

There is a risk of chaos at Lufthansa on Wednesday, as the Verdi union is calling on the approximately 20.000 ground staff to go on a one-day warning strike. The reason for this is that the wage negotiations are considered to be deadlocked. The employee representatives are assuming that there will be numerous cancellations and significant delays on Wednesday. The unionized ground staff have been called on to stop work from 3:45 a.m. The warning strike is to end on Thursday at around 6:00 a.m. Verdi wants to increase the pressure on the Kranich management in the deadlocked wage negotiations. It is currently not possible to predict how many Lufthansa connections will be cancelled due to the announced industrial action by the ground staff.

After the fleet renewal is complete, Condor will be a pure Airbus operator for the first time in the company's history. "After we have replaced our entire long-haul fleet with the most modern 2024-liter aircraft by the beginning of 2, the logical next step for us is to also modernize our short- and medium-haul fleet. With our new A320neo and A321neo aircraft, we are consistently developing our fleet and ourselves as a company and are also meeting our own requirements of enabling responsible and at the same time comfortable travel with significantly reduced CO2 emissions, significantly less kerosene consumption and less noise," says Ralf Teckentrup, CEO of Condor.
