Helsinki: Finnair takes on Guangzhou
Oneworld member Finnair will launch a nonstop service between Helsinki and Guangzhou, China, on September 6, 2022. The route will initially be operated once a week. The carrier plans to fly from the Finnish capital every Tuesday. Return flights from Guangzhou will operate every Thursday. Long-haul Airbus A350 aircraft have been announced. Due to the fact that EU carriers are not allowed to use the airspace of the Russian Federation, Finnair will have to fly considerable detours. "We look forward to returning to Guangzhou and gradually expanding our offering for the Chinese market," says Ole Orvér, Chief Commercial Officer of Finnair. The airline also flies to Shanghai once a week. For the 2022/23 winter season, Finnair has a route network of around 70 European destinations. The Guangzhou flight will connect to a number of Finnair's European destinations, with the transfer check required by the Chinese authorities at Helsinki Airport available for the flight to Guangzhou.
