HAM: 50 years ago the first flight of Turkish Airline started

50 years ago, Turkish Airlines flew the Hamburg-Istanbul route for the first time. The Turkish airline has since become the largest provider of flights to Turkey from Hamburg. On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of Turkish Airlines' first flight from Hamburg, the airport recognized the airline's importance. "A 50-year business relationship is not a given. A real success story began with the Hamburg-Istanbul connection. Turkish Airlines' services are in high demand all year round and are an integral part of Hamburg's route network," said Michael Eggenschwiler, CEO of Hamburg Airport. In addition, Turkish Airlines was one of the first airlines to restart operations during the pandemic crisis and gradually increased frequencies. In terms of passenger numbers, the airline is the largest provider of flights to Turkey from Hamburg and the fifth largest airline in the Hanseatic city. With Istanbul (IST) and Istanbul-Sabiha Gökçen (SAW) airports, the Turkish airline has two year-round destinations in its program. In summer, the offer will be expanded to include Ankara and Antalya, one of the most popular holiday destinations for northern Germans. In addition, the airline traditionally focuses more on family visits from June to August and offers flights to other Turkish airports. In the 2022 summer season, there were six seasonal destinations, including Ordu, Kayseri and Adana.

Tui switched to the level before the pandemic

After a significant recovery in summer business, the world's largest travel group is expecting similar booking numbers in winter as before the corona pandemic. Overall, bookings for the summer program currently amount to 12,9 million, which corresponds to 1,4 million new bookings since the last update in August, said outgoing TUI boss Fritz Joussen. The number of bookings currently corresponds to 91 percent of the level in summer 2019. Sales are looking even better, as average prices are 18 percent higher than in 2019, said Joussen. Around 5,3 million guests started their TUI vacation in the main summer months of July and August, twice as many as in July and August of the previous year, when the number was 2,6 million. Bookings in this period thus reached 94 percent of the level in summer 2019. Currently, around a quarter of the winter program is sold and bookings correspond to 78 percent of the booking level for winter 2018/19. Average prices are currently 26 percent higher than the level for winter 2018/19. As in the summer, the travel company is again seeing a trend towards a higher proportion of short-term bookings for winter. This will probably continue, says Joussen - also for cruises. For the 2022 financial year, the CEO wants to return to a "significantly positive adjusted EBIT" in the operating result before interest and taxes. Work is being done to ensure that this is also above the 2019 figure, he added. The new CEO Sebsatian Ebel wants to present really valid figures for the 2021/22 financial year on December 14, as

Tuifly Belgium relocates Boeing 787 to the Netherlands

In the summer of 2023, Tuifly Belgium will only operate one Boeing 787. So far, two Dreamliners have been stationed at Brussels Airport. This also means that long-haul services from Belgium will be reduced, a company spokesperson confirmed. The company justifies the decision by saying that fuel costs have risen sharply and there is currently no end in sight to the increases and inflation. The kerosene surcharges from Belgium have already had to be raised to over 300 euros. This of course has consequences, because sales have collapsed. Many Belgians are apparently unwilling or unable to pay the additional costs. Tuifly Belgium currently uses two long-haul Boeing 787 aircraft from Brussels. One of the two aircraft will be relocated to the Netherlands to replace an aging B767 there. It is currently assumed that demand from the neighboring country will remain more stable. The Dreamliner is to be used in particular to strengthen traffic to the Netherlands Antilles. Some long-haul destinations will be eliminated from Brussels. According to current information, Santo Domingo and Miami will no longer be offered in the 2022 summer flight schedule. Other destinations, for which a final decision has not yet been made, are in jeopardy. There will be reductions to Cancun, Cuba, Punta Cana and Jamaica.

Package tours: According to Tui, all-inclusive is in high demand

The tour operator Tui is currently experiencing increased demand for all-inclusive package holidays. Around 60 percent of bookings are expected to be in the long-haul travel segment. However, there are also significantly more advance bookings for offers within Austria for the 2022/23 winter season. The tour operator explains in a media statement that almost every second booking is booked with an all-inclusive meal package. A particularly high number of contracts are signed in the regions of Turkey and Egypt. According to the company, 90 percent of hotels there offer the "AI" package. The Canary Islands are also still on trend as a popular winter destination. The Maldives remain unmatched this winter, having been in high demand even during the pandemic. "In Thailand, we are noticing particularly strongly that there is a great need to catch up now that entry requirements have been relaxed," says Tui Austria Managing Director Gottfried Math. The Canary Islands have been a perennial hit in winter for years. The travel group currently has around 1.000 accommodations in its portfolio. Winter 2022/23: Eurowings reduces wet leases to two A220-300 and B737 each

In the 2022/23 winter flight schedule, only four aircraft will fly for Eurowings under wet lease. Each jet, including its crew, will be based in Cologne/Bonn and Düsseldorf, the company confirmed. In the 2023 summer flight schedule, up to eleven Airbus A320s from Avion Express Malta, five Airbus A220-300s from Air Baltic and Boeing 737-800s from Tuifly will be in use on behalf of Eurowings. In winter, the number of wet lease partners will be much more manageable, as only Air Baltic and Tuifly will fly for Eurowings, a spokeswoman confirmed. Two Airbus A220-300s from the Latvian airline will be in use for the Lufthansa subsidiary from Düsseldorf. This reduces the number of aircraft leased by this operator by three. The numerous Airbus A320s from Aviation Express Malta will no longer be needed in the 2022/23 winter flight schedule. Two Boeing 737-800s from Tuifly will continue to fly for Eurowings from Cologne/Bonn. "As expected, the volume of wet leases will decrease sharply in the winter program - in line with our motto of employing partner companies mainly for the busy summer peaks. In line with the seasonal ups and downs, we are reducing our wet lease capacities in the 2022/23 winter flight schedule to just four aircraft - two each from Tuifly (for Cologne/Bonn) and Air Baltic (for Düsseldorf). This means that Eurowings will fly almost exclusively with its own aircraft and its own staff next winter," a Eurowings spokeswoman told Aviation.Direct. When asked whether wet lease services would be required on a larger scale again in the 2023 summer flight schedule, the media officer said: "Summer 2023 is still very difficult to predict. Since we are regularly very flexible, Eurowings will not be able to predict the volume of wet leases.
