Bahamas: CoV-related entry restrictions are falling

The Bahamas lifted the corona-related entry guidelines on September 26th. This means that unvaccinated people no longer have to present proof of a negative test, only if they have symptoms will they be required to undergo a PCR test. Until now, only people who could prove that they had been fully vaccinated against corona were allowed to enter the Bahamas without any further requirements. All other visitors had to present a negative PCR or antigen test, which could have been carried out no more than three days before departure. Since the beginning of this week, the regulations have been significantly relaxed: regardless of vaccination status, a test certificate no longer has to be presented, only people with COVID-19 symptoms have to undergo a PCR test upon arrival and isolate themselves in the event of a positive result. Unvaccinated tourists are also required to submit a questionnaire on their health every day of their stay, as Check24 reports. From October 1st, the obligation to wear a mouth and nose mask in most public indoor spaces will also largely be abolished. Starting next Saturday, the mask requirement in the Bahamas will only apply in medical facilities, nursing homes and schools.

By 2030, Sixt wants to primarily rent out electric cars

The car rental company Sixt wants to convert most of its fleet to electric vehicles by around 2030. The company wants to increase the proportion of electric cars in Europe to 70 to 90 percent. At present, the majority of vehicles are combustion engines. The group aims to be able to offer between 2023 and 12 percent of electric vehicles for rental worldwide by the end of 15. By the end of this year, it plans to add 20 more electric cars to its fleet. A recent study found that electric vehicles are in low demand, especially among holidaymakers. Among other things, they worry about whether there are charging options in their accommodation or in the immediate vicinity. Sixt has recognized this problem and plans to invest around 50 million euros in the charging infrastructure in the coming years. It is also concluding further contracts in order to be able to offer as widespread access to publicly available charging options as possible over the course of next year. To this end, "Sixt Charge" will be integrated into the company's app. There is no information yet on the prices for charging.

UK: Doncaster Sheffield closes on 31 October 2022

The lights will go out at Doncaster Sheffield Airport in the UK on October 31, 2022. The airport will close and will be converted into a warehouse and logistics center. After years of losses, the owners are no longer willing to make up the annual shortfalls. The Peel Airports Group previously tried to find an investor to take over the regional airport. However, no one was found and the public sector is not willing to provide any subsidies. Therefore, the plan announced a few months ago will come into effect: Flight operations will probably cease forever at the end of October 2022. The existing buildings will in future function as warehouses and a logistics center. The area will no longer be used for aviation purposes. Since it opened as a civil airport, Doncaster Sheffield has made large annual losses. It has never been possible to run this airport at least cost-effectively. Only a few airlines could be persuaded to use it. There was hope after Wizz Air UK opened a base, but it was closed again after a very short time. Currently, the DSA is only served by BH Air, Wizz Air and Tui Airways. In the past, numerous other carriers, including Ryanair, Easyjet, Aer Lingus, Lynx Air and Flybe, have tried with little success. After 17 years as a civil airport, the project is considered a failure and the airport will therefore be closed on October 31, 2022.
