General strike in Belgium announced for November 9, 2022

In Belgium, the signs point to a strike: Several unions have called for a nationwide general strike on November 9. This will result in work stoppages and restrictions in large parts of public life in Belgium. As the railway company SNCB announced on its website, there may be disruptions to train services from 8 p.m. on November 22 to 9 p.m. on November 22. Restrictions are also to be expected at the airports, particularly Brussels-Zaventem and Brussels-Charleroi. In addition, car drivers must prepare for traffic disruptions. The reason for the unions' call for a strike is rising energy costs, as Check24 reports. Airline passengers are advised to have their flight confirmed before starting their journey. Rail travelers should also find out in good time the day before the strike whether the chosen connection will run on the day of the strike and what alternatives are available in the event of a cancellation.

Shipping company Costa is largely withdrawing from Asia

The Costa shipping company will largely withdraw from Asia. The company justifies the move, among other things, with the fact that there would still be "uncertainty about the full resumption of international cruises in East Asia". This is why it decided to take this step. The official statement also reads: "In East Asia, Costa Crociere has decided to reorganize its structure in this region." Originally, the company wanted to grow strongly with a local branch called "Costa Asia". However, the Corona pandemic, among other things, led to business in China and East Asia coming to an almost complete standstill. The result: The company is withdrawing - at least for the time being - from this region and canceling cruises planned for next year. This affects the departures of the Serena and Magica, which are to be used from this area. The ships are to be set sail from other parts of the world. The Venezia and Firenze ships, originally intended for the Asian market, will in future be used as "Costa by Carnival" from North America. The Luminosa has already been withdrawn from Asia and is being used for the main brand. However, Costa does not want to withdraw from Asia permanently and reserves the right to make a new attempt at a later date. "Asia remains a strategic area for the company and we will focus our activities on outbound sales through our local sales staff," the company said. The changes do not include the activities that Carnival carries out in cooperation with the China State Shipbuilding Corporation. At this point in time, the company will be able to offer a new service.
