Salzburg had 323.723 passengers in the third quarter of 2022

Salzburg Airport counted a total of 2022 passengers in the third quarter of 323.723. The months of July, August and September are traditionally considered to be particularly busy. Compared to the same period last year, Austria's second-largest airport was able to grow considerably. In the first nine months of the current year, 958.120 travelers used Salzburg Airport. Around 9.362 commercial flights were carried out during this period. Of these, 3.008 were in the third quarter of 2022. Winter business is usually much stronger in Salzburg, as this airport is used as a landing site by many winter sports enthusiasts. Compared to 2021, the first quarter of 2022 saw a significant increase, but the volume was significantly below the volume before the corona pandemic. There are high expectations in Salzburg for the 2022/23 winter season, as many charters have already been registered. Government wants to privatize Sri Lankan Airlines

An important hurdle has been overcome in the possible privatization of the state-owned airline Sri Lankan Airlines, as the government has now agreed to sell at least part of the company. The Minister of Aviation and Maritime Affairs has been instructed, under the supervision of the Minister of Finance, to draw up a corresponding concept. The cabinet has decided that an official tender for the sale will then be launched. However, it has not yet been decided whether the group should be fully or only partially privatized. In any case, it is certain that investors will at least be brought on board. The airline's management has recently been open to a possible privatization. However, it is also conceivable that subsidiaries will be partially sold in order to get fresh money into the coffers. The carrier is currently on a profitable course, but in recent years it has incurred significant losses due to the corona pandemic. Sri Lankan Airlines was already a private company, but the company was saved from bankruptcy in 2008 after significant losses through nationalization. Critics are of the opinion that a privately run airline would not be profitable.

A220 order: Croatia Airlines signs letter of intent

Star Alliance member Croatia Airlines has signed an official letter of intent with Airbus to purchase six A220s. This is to be developed into a formal purchase agreement in the next few weeks. Neither Airbus nor the airline have commented on whether the order is for the 100 or 300 variant. Croatia Airlines sources say that there will be three of each and that the airline will also secure options for additional aircraft. However, the first six aircraft are not a "real" new order. In the past, Croatia Airlines converted an order that was originally placed for an A319 into an A320neo. Now it wants to convert this into an A220. The airline intends to convert its fleet entirely to Airbus Canada's regional jets. The conversion will take place over a period of four years from the first delivery. It is assumed that the A220 order will be increased at a later date.

Ita Airways: Italy's government is knocking on MSC/Lufthansa again

The new Italian government has lifted the exclusivity of the negotiations with Certares/Air France-KLM/Delta on the partial privatization of Ita Airways. Prime Minister Meloni now wants negotiations to take place with MSC/Lufthansa as well. The previous government had awarded the contract to the consortium around Certares. For this purpose, a so-called exclusivity was granted for the negotiation of the purchase agreement. Since no breakthrough has been achieved since August 31, 2022, the Italian Ministry of Finance has lifted this. This does not mean that the sale has finally fallen through, but that MSC/Lufthansa and Indigo Partners can start negotiations. A second chance, so to speak. Before the elections, Meloni hinted that she could imagine stopping the sale of Ita Airways altogether. Now the politician has indicated that she is pushing for talks with MSC/Lufthansa. This turn of events comes as quite a surprise, because this bidding consortium wants to give the state significantly less influence than Certares and its partners. Indigo Partners also senses a "second chance" and is said to be ready to convince the Italian government. Different views within the government Lufthansa and MSC had offered to jointly acquire 80 percent. The share of the crane airline would have been quite low at 20 percent. The Certares consortium wanted to settle for a smaller share and veto rights for the state. MSC/Lufthansa still believes that only "real privatization" makes sense. A spokesman explained that they are still interested and are therefore monitoring the situation. Nevertheless, the situation is complicated because within the government coalition led by Giorgia Meloni there are insufficient
