"After agreeing on the key parameters, we took the time necessary to work out the details in order to find clear wording so that we have to have as few detailed discussions as possible on the interpretation of the GAV2023 in the coming years."

Alaska Airlines has retired its last Airbus A320

An era ended at Alaska Airlines on January 9, 2023, as the carrier removed the last Airbus A320ceo from scheduled service. Some time ago, it was decided that this type of aircraft would no longer be operated. Originally, the company wanted to phase out the A320ceo fleet, which mostly came from Virgin America, which was taken over in 2018, more slowly. Later, it was decided that the process should be accelerated and the last unit would be decommissioned at the end of 2022. It ended up taking a few days longer, as 9 units were still in use until January 2023, 12. The 29 Airbus A320-200s that were once used by Alaska Airlines are currently stored at various airports, waiting for new operators. The turboprop aircraft of the subsidiary Horizon Air and the ten Airbus A321neo that were still ordered by Virgin America are also to leave the fleet. The current schedule calls for these aircraft to be phased out by the end of 2023. In the future, Alaska Airlines' AOC will primarily operate Boeing 737 (Max). Horizon Air will focus on Embraer 175s.

Bolzano: Skyalps has received AOC and operating license

Skyalps is now officially an Italian airline, as the company has been granted an AOC and operating license by the aviation authority Enac. In the future, the company wants to offer the flight operations, which have so far been carried out by Luxwing, on its own. The company is currently looking for flight attendants. The Bolzano Airport's own brand originally started out as a so-called virtual airline. The flights were operated by the Maltese Luxwing. The aircraft are therefore registered in the Malta aviation register. The cooperation also included the establishment of its own AOC and operating license. This has now been obtained, which is why the cooperation with Luxwing is expiring. Skyalps flights are currently operated both by itself and by Luxwing. The first own flight was carried out on January 11, 2023. The de Havilliand Dash 8-400 with the registration 9H-EVA was used. According to the company, this is the first aircraft to be operated on its own AOC. Skyalps' two-letter code is SW, while Luxwing's is BN. Skyalps stated that all four de Havilland Dash 2023-8s will be transferred to its own AOC by the end of March 400. These are the aircraft with the registration numbers 9H-BEL, 9H-EVA, 9H-ALE and 9H-PET. Some of these were previously used by Austrian Airlines and Flybe.

Daedalus: Federal army monitors western Austrian airspace more

The airspace in western Austria has been monitored more closely by the Federal Army since Monday. The background to this is that the World Economic Forum, which is attended by around 50 heads of state and government and around 2.700 delegates, is taking place in Switzerland. Traditionally, the Swiss Confederation and Austria work together in security areas during this event. Under the operation name "Dädalus", the Federal Army is monitoring the airspace in western Austria more closely. For example, additional aircraft, helicopters and mobile radar systems are being deployed in the federal states of Tyrol and Vorarlberg. Additional air patrolling is also being carried out. According to the responsible commander, this is intended to ensure security in Austria and Switzerland. The WEF, which is taking place in Davos, lasts until January 21, 2023. For this reason, a restricted flight zone has also been imposed over the federal state of Tyrol. According to official information, the Federal Army is deploying around 1.000 soldiers, nine helicopters, 20 aircraft and eleven planes. The aircraft will be used primarily from Innsbruck and Landeck. Four Pilatus PC-7s and three PC-6s will be used from the first-mentioned airport. Four Bell OH-58 helicopters will be kept on standby from Landeck. Eurofighters will be used from Zeltweg if necessary. Austria and Switzerland signed a new agreement some time ago that includes extensive cooperation in the area of airspace security against non-military threats. This came into force on February 1, 2019. They had already worked closely together during the annual WEF. Suspicious aircraft may be tracked across borders, but the use of weapons in the other's territory is prohibited without prior approval.

Cockpit Association sharply criticizes Lufthansa Cargo management

Aerologic, a joint venture between Lufthansa and Deutsche Post-DHL, will add another Boeing 777 cargo aircraft to its fleet. This has been met with sharp criticism from the pilots' union Vereinigung Cockpit, which accuses the company of "continuing its course against its own workforce". "The company's strategy continues to be directed against its own workforce in the cockpit and on the ground," says VC President Stefan Herth. "We have heard from various Cargo executives that they would fight for the new aircraft. These assurances are obviously just lip service. With the decision now made, management is preventing the long-term safeguarding of jobs at Lufthansa Cargo as well as growth back to its former size. Against the backdrop of the record profits that have been achieved jointly by all employees with great personal commitment, this decision is completely incomprehensible to us. We call on Lufthansa to let Lufthansa Cargo manage the upcoming Boeing 777s and thus strengthen its own workforce."
