Martinair orders four Airbus A350Fs

The Dutch airline Martinair will introduce four Airbus A350F cargo aircraft into its fleet. These will replace older Boeing 747Fs. The KLM subsidiary is thus modernizing its partly aging fleet. "We are very pleased about this important step towards the A350F. It accelerates Air France KLM Martinair Cargo's sustainability efforts through significant improvements in fuel emissions and compliance with the strictest ICAO Chapter 14 for noise and CAEP 8 for nitrogen oxides (NOx). We are fit for the future," said Adriaan den Heijer, Executive Vice President Air France KLM Cargo and Managing Director Martinair. The Airbus A350F is based on the passenger aircraft that has been on the market for some time. The cargo variant was presented in 2021. So far, the European aircraft manufacturer has landed 35 orders from seven customers. "Another A350F confirmation, and a great one at that! We are delighted to welcome the A350F into the KLM/Martinair world. This confirms the importance of this most modern, high-capacity, long-range freighter for the air cargo segment. I am very pleased with the launch of our programme. With 50% less noise and 40% less fuel consumption and CO2 emissions compared to the older generation freighters it replaces, this is hardly a surprise! We thank the Air France-KLM Group for its continued trust,” said Christian Scherer, Airbus Chief Commercial Officer and Head of Airbus International. The delivery to Martinair comes in time to meet the latest ICAO carbon dioxide emission standards, which will come into force by the end of 2027, according to Airbus.

Euro Airport Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg looks back on the past financial year. According to the airport, a total of 7 million passengers were counted last year, which represents a decrease of 2019 percent compared to 23, but an increase of 2021 percent compared to 94. While passenger numbers were still at a low level in the first months of 2022, they increased again over the course of the year. In some months, frequencies were even higher than in 2019. In 2022, there were 84.136 flight movements (+31,7 percent compared to 2021, -15,3 percent compared to 2019), of which 64.300 were commercial flights (+56 percent compared to 2021, -21,1 percent compared to 2019). 25 airlines offered a total of 90 destinations. Innsbruck Airport had 721.421 passengers

Last year, Innsbruck Airport had 721.421 passengers. In direct comparison with 2021, there was an increase of 475 percent, but the figure was around 34 percent below the figure achieved before the corona pandemic. In 2019, Innsbruck Airport had around 1,14 million passengers. According to management, the strongest steps on the road to recovery were taken in summer outgoing traffic and in the third quarter of 2022. In terms of flight movements, with 7.450 movements in scheduled and charter traffic, the level is comparable to the end of the 1980s (!) or around 38 percent below the 2019 level. "In the first four months there was no connection to Frankfurt," says airport director Marco Pernetta. "The resumption of the Frankfurt route with the Lufthansa subsidiary Air Dolomiti, which has been offering three daily flights to/from Frankfurt again since May 2022, was all the more pleasing. In the future, the offer will even be increased to up to four flights per day." For the first time, the airlines with the largest passenger volume were Transavia and EasyJet, both of which, in addition to an intensive winter flight program, also offer two year-round destinations with London Gatwick and Amsterdam from/to Innsbruck. In general, around one in four passengers last year took a flight from one of the London airports to Innsbruck, making the Greater London area the most important source market for Innsbruck Airport in 2022. "We were particularly pleased," says Pernetta, "that since December 2022 there has also been a Paris connection with the Air France subsidiary Hop Airlines in our flight schedule for the first time." For the time being, the two

Tui expects expensive last-minute offers

The tour operator Tui expects that prices for holidays will generally be higher in summer 2023. At the same time, it is assumed that the classic last-minute offer will be smaller and more expensive. In the last two years, many passengers have booked at very short notice. At present, the opposite trend is emerging, as Tui is seeing that people are booking early again in order to be able to "take advantage" of discounts, for example. This means that it is assumed that the last-minute offer will be smaller this year and therefore more expensive.

Boeing remains deep in the red

US aircraft manufacturer Boeing posted a loss of around five billion US dollars last year. Although free cash flow increased, this was not enough to even come close to breaking even. Overall, the company generated revenues of USD 2022 billion in 66,6, of which USD 19,9 billion came in the fourth quarter of 2022. Although Boeing delivered as many aircraft as possible in the last quarter of the year, handing over 152 commercial aircraft, the company posted a net loss of USD 2022 million in the fourth quarter of 663. Nevertheless, Boeing's free cash flow was $2022 billion in the fourth quarter of 3,1 ($494 million in the fourth quarter of 2021) and $2,2 billion in 2022 (-$4,3 billion in 2021). Boeing's Commercial Airplanes (BCA) division generated revenue of $25,8 billion in the year, up 33% from the same period last year. However, BCA's net loss was $2,3 billion, an improvement from the $6,4 billion net loss in 2021. "Commercial Airplanes revenue increased to $9,2 billion in the fourth quarter, driven by higher 737 and 787 deliveries, partially offset by considerations from 787 customers," the company said in a statement. Defense, Space & Security made a loss of $2022 billion in 3,5 ($1,5 billion profit in 2021), while Global Services ended 2022 with a profit of $2,7 billion ($2,01 billion in 2021). "The production rate of the 737 program
