Due to the strike called by the Verdi union at the airports in Frankfurt/Main, Munich, Stuttgart, Hamburg, Dortmund, Hanover and Bremen for Friday, February 17, 2023, Lufthansa has to cancel all flights planned from its two German hubs. Around 1.300 connections are affected. Both Munich and Frankfurt am Main have already announced that regular passenger flight operations will not be possible on Friday due to the strikes called for by the Verdi union. The same applies to the other five airports affected by the strike. While airlines such as Condor and Tuifly have relocated at least some connections to other airports, the Lufthansa Group has decided that the group's planned flight services to/from Frankfurt and Munich will remain completely suspended. Lufthansa says it has already informed the affected passengers and offered them - where possible - alternative connections, rebookings and train tickets. Regardless of this, Germany's largest airline asks passengers to regularly check the current status of their booking. It is currently assumed that flight operations can resume as normal on Saturday, February 18, 2023. Experience has shown that there may be after-effects, particularly on long-haul routes. "We regret the enormous impact of this warning strike, which is being carried out at the expense of our passengers. We are not a party to the collective bargaining negotiations and have no influence on them - but our guests and we are massively affected. More than 1.300 flight cancellations for the airlines of the Lufthansa Group alone show once again how vulnerable and susceptible the air traffic system is to strike activities," says Michael Niggemann, member of the Executive Board.
