Texas: Teenager arrested after airdrop bomb threat against American Airlines flight

Before American Airlines flight AA2051 took off, a teenage schoolboy thought he had to use Apple's Airdrop service to make a bomb threat to other passengers. That was not a good idea, because instead of going to Chicago, he ended up being handcuffed to the police station. Some iPhone users were astonished when they found the message "I have a bomb. Want to share a photo" on their smartphones. The cabin crew were informed immediately, who immediately informed the captain of the theoretically possible threat. The captain decided that the taxiing of flight AA2051 would be aborted and the plane would return to the gate. There was then a visit from the police and the FBI. The originator of the airdrop threat, the teenager, was arrested. The Airbus A319 was then extensively and meticulously examined by explosives experts. Fortunately, the all-clear was given. The takeoff of flight AA2051 was delayed by around five hours as a result. The student who confessed to sending the message is now in custody at the El Paso Juvenile Detention Center and faces a charge of making a false report or alarm, a felony in Texas.

Long gone check-in question: smoker or non-smoker?

Back in the 1990s and partly into the early 2000s, this question was a daily routine at the check-in counter: "Smoker or non-smoker?" In some cases, the symbols have stubbornly remained on boarding passes to this day, even though there are practically no smoking flights anywhere anymore. In older advertising campaigns for various airlines and of course in films that were made a long time ago, you can see an image that is, from today's perspective, disturbing: passengers smoking on board commercial aircraft and doing so completely legally. At times, it was even considered good form for some airlines to offer passengers free cigarettes. The flight attendants, who were still officially called stewardesses at the time, went through and offered them pieces of chocolate, much like today. A smoking flight was a flight on which smoking was permitted on board. In the past, smoking flights were common and there were specially designated smoking areas on the aircraft where passengers could smoke. However, due to health concerns and safety risks associated with smoking on board, smoking flights have been abolished in most countries. Today, smoking is generally prohibited on flights, regardless of whether it is a domestic or international flight. Smoking seats on an aircraft were specially designated seats where passengers were allowed to smoke when smoking was still permitted on board. The smoking seats were usually located in specific areas of the aircraft, which were separated from the rest of the cabin either by curtains or a partition. That was the theory, because in practice this separation was often not even present.
