Ryanair launches petition against French ATC strikes

The low-cost airline Ryanair has launched a petition calling on the EU Commission to take action on regular strikes by French air traffic controllers. The low-cost airline accuses the body around Ursula von der Leyen of "inaction". Eddie Wilson, Managing Director of Ryanair DAC, said: "While we respect the right to strike, it is completely unacceptable that European passenger flights flying over France are repeatedly delayed or cancelled by French air traffic control strikes. So far in 2023, more than 1.000.000 EU passengers have had to endure unnecessary delays and cancellations due to 14 different French air traffic control strikes without Ursula von der Leyen's Commission doing anything to protect them. It is simply not fair that flights to and from France are protected by minimum service laws. Despite repeated unanswered calls to the EU Commission to protect passenger flights by keeping EU skies open during the French air traffic control strikes, Ryanair has launched an EU-wide petition entitled "PROTECT PASSENGERS - KEEP EU SKIES OPEN" asking passengers to support our call to the EU Commission to take action to protect Europeans and their families and their travel plans during the French air traffic control strikes, which are now taking place almost weekly. If the EU won't listen to its airlines, then maybe it will listen to the millions of European air passengers."
