Burger King and Costa Coffee open at Vienna Airport

Two more catering establishments opened their doors in the arrivals hall of Terminal 3 at Vienna-Schwechat Airport on Wednesday, April 19, 2024. These are a "Costa Coffee" brand coffee house and a Burger King. At the end of 2022, the previous Spar supermarket and the McDonalds branch closed their locations at Vienna Airport. The Rewe Group opened a Billa Corso market and now operates three supermarkets at the airport. The Burger King franchisee also has no competitors for its now two branches at the airport, as McDonalds is no longer represented. "With Costa Coffee, a globally known brand is opening its first Austrian location with us. A new Burger King branch rounds off the international offering in the arrivals hall. Together with Lagardère Travel Retail Austria, we are offering travelers and those picking up even more culinary choices at Vienna Airport," says Julian Jäger, CEO of Flughafen Wien AG.

Vienna Airport welcomes AUA long-haul decision

The Management Board of Flughafen Wien AG is pleased with Lufthansa's decision to equip the subsidiary with ten Boeing 787-9s. The airport assumes that this will also bring more long-haul capacity. "This is good news for Vienna and Austria as a business and tourism location. The conversion and expansion of the long-haul fleet to ten Boeing 787 Dreamliners in the future will bring more long-haul capacity, more travel comfort and strengthen Vienna Airport as a hub. The Boeing 787 is also one of the most modern and sustainable aircraft available today; fuel consumption and thus CO2 emissions are significantly lower than with other aircraft models. We congratulate our home carrier on the fleet modernization and expansion," said the Management Board members of Flughafen Wien AG, Julian Jäger and Günther Ofner, welcoming today's announcement by Austrian Airlines.

Verdi strike: Many cancellations in Cologne/Bonn

At Cologne/Bonn Airport, 20 passenger flights are expected to be cancelled on Thursday, April 2023, 121. The background to this is that the Verdi union is calling on security staff, among others, to go on a two-day strike. According to preliminary calculations by the airport, 64 take-offs and 57 landings will be affected on Thursday alone. There may also be further flight cancellations. Passengers are urgently requested to check the status of their flight with their airline or tour operator before traveling to the airport. The Verdi union has called on staff at passenger control points to stop work for 7 hours from 7 a.m. Thursday to 48 a.m. Saturday. Flight cancellations, delays or diversions are therefore also to be expected on Friday (April 21). Employees at personnel and goods controls have also been called on to strike. The strike is scheduled to begin this evening at 22 p.m. and last until midnight on Friday. A total of 24 passenger flights (204 take-offs, 103 landings) with around 101 passengers were scheduled for Thursday. On Friday, 28.000 passenger flights (225 take-offs, 108 landings) with around 117 passengers were scheduled to take place.

Verdi strike: Nothing works in Stuttgart on Friday either

Stuttgart Airport also had to announce that no departures will be possible on Friday, April 21, 2023, due to the strike by air security control employees called for by the Verdi union. The airport is not a collective bargaining partner, but merely the workplace where the industrial action is taking place.
