Child knocked down twice: UK court sentences two drunk passengers

Some time ago, there was a particularly unpleasant case of passengers misbehaving before the take-off of a Tui Airways flight from Manchester to Crete. A drunk couple refused to disembark and their own child fell to the ground twice. The two had to stand trial in the UK. A Tui flight attendant also gave evidence as a witness at the trial. Shortly before take-off, the cabin crew noticed that the two passengers were drunk. This was reported to the cockpit, which then decided that the two were not allowed to fly to Crete. An argument developed between the flight attendants and the two unruly PAX, as the couple refused to leave the plane. During the loud conversation, the child fell to the ground. The stewardess stated in court that the parents had ignored the fact that the child had fallen from the aisle seat. She came to the girl's aid and put her back in her seat. The Sun also reports, citing the testimony of the Tui flight attendant, that she described the situation in court as the worst she had ever experienced. But that was not all: the mother then groped the child while her husband tried to lead her down the aisle. This caused the child to fall to the ground for the first time. The second time, the woman deliberately pushed the child so that it fell down again. The sum of events was too much for the crew, because then the

Wetlease: World2Fly flies A350-900 for Corendon Dutch Airlines

In the 2023/24 winter flight schedule, Corendon Dutch Airlines will offer a non-stop connection between Amsterdam-Schiphol and Curaçao. This will initially be served three times a week with Airbus A3s from November 2023, 350. Since the Dutch Corendon subsidiary does not have a suitable aircraft with which to fly non-stop, it is resorting to a wet lease. At first, the operator was kept a secret, but it has now been announced that the Airbus A350 will be operated by World2Fly. The new route is to be increased to five weekly rotations with Airbus A17-2023s, effective December 350, 900.

Osaka: Air France A350 makes safe landing with dented nose

On May 28, 2023, Air France flight AF291 had to turn around shortly after takeoff in Osaka, Japan. According to the pilot's radio message, the Airbus A350-900 initially had problems with the weather radar and speedometer. About 30 minutes after takeoff, the F-HTYO, which had only been put into scheduled service with Air France about a year ago, was already at a cruising altitude of 35.000 feet. At this point, the pilots reported a technical malfunction affecting the weather radar and speedometer. They decided to turn around. After the emergency landing in Osaka, it turned out that the nose of the Airbus A350-900 was severely deformed. It is still unclear what caused the damage, but a bird strike that could have occurred during takeoff or climb is considered quite likely. However, a bird strike at cruising altitude cannot be ruled out, as there are birds, albeit very few, that can fly that high. If it was actually an animal, it is highly unlikely that it was a sparrow. According to official information, there were 350 passengers and the Air France crew on board the Airbus A900-324, which was supposed to fly from Osaka to Paris-Charles de Gaulle. All of them were able to leave the long-haul aircraft unharmed. The passengers were rebooked on other connections because the F-HTYO is in need of repairs. https://twitter.com/jokerfacebio/status/1662705672021250048

Ryanair expects further consolidation in aviation

The Ryanair Group suspects that there will be further consolidation in European aviation within the next two years. The range of providers will continue to decrease, and this will inevitably be to the detriment of passengers, as it will also increase ticket prices. Just last week it was announced that Lufthansa will initially acquire a 41 percent stake in Ita Airways. At a later date, the company plans to take over the Alitalia successor, which is currently deeply in the red. This will mean a major buy-in into the Italian market and at the same time a blow to Skyteam, as it is expected to join the Star Alliance. In Portugal, they are looking for a buyer for Tap. Again, as the carrier was privatized a few years ago, but was gradually re-nationalized in several steps. IAG, Air France-KLM and Lufthansa are said to be interested in the Star Alliance member. In Spain, Air Europa has more or less already been sold to the International Airlines Group, but there is still no green light from the EU Commission, which has considerable concerns about competition law. Even before the Corona pandemic, SAS was considered a potential takeover candidate. Lufthansa has repeatedly been said to be very interested in the Scandinavian Star Alliance partner. Official takeover negotiations have not yet taken place. However, it is probably only a matter of time before at least the state majority owners sell their shares. On the other side of the Baltic Sea, the state-owned Air Baltic is to be privatized again, but there is still no timetable for a possible sale. More

China Eastern has put its first Comac C919 into scheduled service

China Eastern Airlines took delivery of its first Comac C919 jet some time ago. However, it was not used commercially until Sunday, May 28, 2023. The first flight was from Shanghai to Beijing Capital. According to official information, there were 9191 passengers on board China Eastern flight MU130. The C919 medium-haul jet is China's answer to the Boeing 737 and Airbus A320. The aim is to make the airline independent of foreign aircraft with this model, but also to become a major player in the international market. There are currently more than 500 firm orders. The vast majority are domestic and were placed by state-owned or indirectly state-controlled airlines and lessors. The big breakthrough has not yet been achieved internationally. Nevertheless, the first commercial flight, which was carried out by China Eastern Airlines on Sunday, is a great success for the Chinese aviation program. Development began in 2008, the first test flight was carried out in 2017 and the first unit was put into commercial service in 2023.

Slovenia wants to build railway line to Ljubljana Airport

The Slovenian government is planning to build a new railway line between Ljubljana Airport and the city center. This will provide better connections between the airport and the capital, but also to other cities via the rail network. The fundamental decision that will lead to the construction of the new route has already been made. The Ministry of Infrastructure has published a corresponding call for tenders for an expert report. On the basis of this, the project will be included in the national spatial development plan. The planned railway line will be around 20 kilometers long and will be electrified from the start. The current schedule calls for the report to be completed by 2025 at the latest. Further evaluations will then be carried out so that the project can be approved in the spatial development plan between 2026 and 2030. Construction is not expected to begin before 2030, but the railway line is to be put into operation by 2023 at the latest. It is completely unclear which railway company will then be operational. In principle, there are no plans for the route to be reserved exclusively for the state railway. At the moment, Ljubljana is only connected to the airport by road. The airport has not yet recovered from the Adria Airways bankruptcy and the corona pandemic. Passenger numbers are still significantly below pre-crisis levels. The government had high hopes for subsidizing new routes or resumptions, but only Montenegro Airlines and Luxair have applied. Neither of the two carriers has yet been formally awarded a contract.

Ultra-short haul: Wizz Air competes with Ryanair and Air Malta on Catania-Malta

Competition on the ultra-short-haul route between Luqa and Catania will intensify from July 1, 2023, as the low-cost airline Wizz Air is competing with Air Malta and Ryanair. The pink low-cost airline plans to fly six times a week. The flight connection between Catania and Malta is a special feature in the Ryanair Group's route network, as there are no on-board sales due to the extremely short flight time. For this reason, competitor Air Malta also refrains from selling food and drinks. If you still want something, you can of course still get it by asking a crew member. The two carriers have been in fierce competition in the Sicily-Malta business for several years. With Wizz Air Malta, a third player is venturing onto this ultra-short-haul route. In contrast to the two competitors, the flight frequency is rather low, with six rotations per week. For the time being, the challenger seems to want to concentrate on the summer business, as the new addition is currently limited to September 3, 2023.
