New scanners: Up to two liters allowed in hand luggage from Helsinki

The airport company Finavia will simplify security checks at Helsinki Airport and increase the permitted amount of liquids in hand luggage to two liters per passenger. "Traveling at Helsinki Airport will be even easier from June 28. More modern security screening equipment has been installed at the airport. Thanks to this, we can now allow the transport of liquid containers with more than one hundred milliliters of content, such as one-liter water bottles and other larger containers, in hand luggage," says Ari Kumara, Finavia's security manager. Finavia has now completed its development project, which aimed to make security checks smoother and less stressful. The reform was carried out in two phases. In the first phase, in the summer of 2022, Finavia opened a completely new security check at Helsinki Airport. The eight state-of-the-art security check lines use a new technology based on computer tomography. Thanks to the new scanners, liquids and electronic devices no longer need to be removed from hand luggage. The second phase of the reform took place in June 2023, when two more lines were opened at Helsinki Airport and all ten security screening lines were put into operation. In this way, the possibilities of the new technology are now fully exploited and Finavia can increase the amount of liquids that can be carried in hand luggage to two liters per passenger.

Tips for spontaneous short breaks in Lower Austria

A classic holiday feeling, a balanced cultural programme, sporting activities and high-quality cuisine. “There are many options for anyone looking to cool off in the region in summer. If you haven’t booked your holiday yet, you’ll find places and activities in our state that leave nothing to be desired in terms of the classic summer holiday feeling. And if the weather isn’t playing along, there are great alternatives with a balanced cultural programme and a wide range of high-quality cuisine,” explains Governor Johanna Mikl-Leitner. Michael Duscher, Managing Director of Lower Austria Tourist Board, adds: “Summer in Lower Austria offers highlights for refreshing short breaks. Guests can experience Lower Austria as an authentic and extremely attractive destination, discover new perspectives and explore their homeland. Mountains and bathing lakes, natural and artistic gardens, modern art and culture festivals - everyone gets their money's worth with our carefully curated discovery trips for hiking, cycling and culinary delights." The Lower Austria CARD, for example, offers free entry to numerous outdoor pools and bathing lakes throughout Lower Austria, such as a pedal boat trip on the Ottenstein Reservoir or on Lake Lunz. But even away from the many swimming pools, you can find plenty of cooling off in Lower Austria, for example in Austria's largest wine cellar, the Retzer Erlebniskeller or the new Waldviertler Sommerfrische, which, among other things, ensures that special holiday moment off the beaten tourist track with the "hidden treasures" of the Waldviertel such as the Brunngartl. A visit to the many Lower Austrian show gardens is also particularly attractive. From June to August, moonlight concerts and performances, moonlight picnics, torchlight hikes and twilight tours through the gardens are on the program. But the garden summer also has a lot to offer during the day, for example at the children's and games festival in the Weinviertel Museum Village Niedersulz on

Business travel trend 2023: Reduce costs and protect the environment

Costs and environmental impact: These are the issues that are currently at the forefront of business travel. In its current International Mobility Report 2023, the leading international consulting and services company Aon plc sees these two factors as the most important drivers in the development of work-related mobility. Remote work has also increased through and during the COVID-19 pandemic, while business travel has tended to decrease. However, it turns out that working across borders is not quite as easy as initially thought: Many countries are intervening with new regulations. This means that companies have to rethink and adapt their policies. After the end of the pandemic, costs are clearly at the top of the priority list for those responsible. "Safety" and "Employee Wellbeing" are still important, but have had to vacate their top spots from 2022. Aon expects that - unless exceptional influences occur - this will remain the case in the longer term. However, ESG criteria (Environment, Social, Governance) are much more important: while they were rated 2022th in 11, this year they have already moved up to 6th place in the list of priorities. Here, companies are primarily striving to reduce the number of trips (44 percent of respondents) and to offset emissions (37 percent). The idea of being able to work flexibly from anywhere in the world and thus combine vacation and work away from the home office, for example, has become less attractive for companies. Only 50 percent admit the possibility of remote work, compared to 63 percent last year. The fact that

ÖAMTC Air Rescue celebrates its 40th anniversary

The emergency medical helicopters of the ÖAMTC air rescue service have been taking off to save people's lives since 1983. From modest beginnings - in 1983 there were only two bases - it quickly developed into a cornerstone of the rescue service that is now an integral part of the Austrian health system. As part of a ceremony, representatives from politics, business, the health sector and partner organizations took a look at the past, present and future of air rescue in Austria. "Looking back on the past 40 years is encouraging," says Reinhard Kraxner, Managing Director of the ÖAMTC air rescue service. "Through their spirit of innovation and tireless commitment, our employees have created a flagship in the field of international air rescue." The range of achievements of the past decades is long and ranges from more powerful helicopters and innovative rescue methods to groundbreaking training concepts and autopilots to mobile ultrasound devices and our own weather cameras. The year 2017 is particularly noteworthy in this regard: Christophorus 2 was Austria's first emergency medical helicopter, which is ready for use around the clock thanks to the latest technology. With the start of 24-hour operations on the C14 and C17 in the following years, comprehensive care is now guaranteed in eastern Austria, even during the night. "Our declared aim is to establish 24/7 operations in the western half of the country in the near future," says Kraxner. In 1983, Christophorus 1 and 2 flew a total of 191 missions. Last year, the Christophorus fleet recorded a record year with 21.934 alarms. "These figures clearly show that the ÖAMTC air rescue service is needed and that it is now impossible to imagine the Austrian health system without it," says ÖMTC President Günter Thumser. "Because by far the most
