Korean Air delivers first fuselage for Boeing AH-6 helicopter series

Korean Air recently delivered the first of eight AH-6 helicopter fuselages to Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) for final assembly. The airline signed the contract for the fuselages with Boeing in December 2021. Korean Air draws on extensive experience and expertise in helicopter construction to manufacture the helicopter fuselages. Play flies two spontaneous to Iceland for a summer day

Dropping everything and flying to Iceland immediately - this dream became reality for two young women from Washington DC. To celebrate the second anniversary, PLAY Airlines decided to surprise unsuspecting strangers on the streets of Washington DC with an exclusive invitation to an unforgettable summer party in Iceland. The criteria were easy to meet: the chosen ones only had to answer a few questions about Iceland, have a valid passport, be quick to pack their suitcase and have no plans for the day. Zarima and Lia's exciting adventure was accompanied by a camera and is already an internet hit on the airline's channel. The reason for the surprise: the young low-cost airline took off on its maiden flight from Iceland to London on June 22, 2021. Since then, the airline has experienced remarkable growth and expanded its fleet from three aircraft in 2021 to six aircraft in 2022, so that it will have a total of ten aircraft in 2023. The team behind PLAY is proud to operate the youngest fleet in Europe, with an average age of just two years. The search for suitable candidates on the streets of Washington DC proved time-consuming but also successful thanks to specific criteria. The random candidates had to be able to correctly pronounce the Icelandic word “Reynisfjara”, which refers to one of the most stunning black beaches in Iceland. They also had to know at least one Icelandic dish. The most spontaneous and at the same time most beautiful task: They had to board a PLAY plane that same afternoon, fly to Iceland and

Asian tiger mosquito also on the rise in Vienna

The Asian tiger mosquito (Aedes albopictus) was first introduced into Vienna in 2020 in the southeastern green belt along the main traffic routes. The tiger mosquitoes overwintered there and occasionally spread further into adjacent residential areas and garden settlements. The tiger mosquito has also been spotted at inner-city long-distance bus stops in recent years. The tiger mosquito is on its way into the city: on the one hand, travel and long-distance traffic encourage the ongoing introduction of new mosquitoes. On the other hand, established tiger mosquitoes are adapting better and better to the weather conditions - including milder winters. The further spread of the tiger mosquito should be prevented, as it also bites during the day and can also transmit diseases when it bites. The most effective and safest countermeasure is to consistently avoid water accumulation in the home and garden and to protect yourself from bites by wearing suitable clothing and insect repellent (repellents). Why should we stop the further spread of the tiger mosquito? The day-active tiger mosquito can be very annoying and can also transmit pathogens such as the West Nile virus. We must therefore all stop their permanent settlement and rapid reproduction early on by consistently avoiding breeding grounds in our homes and gardens. The larger the tiger mosquito population becomes, the more difficult it is to contain it. Tiger mosquito eggs only need small amounts of moisture to survive: when gardening, on terraces or balconies, remember to dry out breeding grounds (possibly with eggs) and not to create new breeding grounds. Vessels and containers such as pot stands and birdbaths should be emptied and wiped dry if possible. When storing, remember to turn containers, garden furniture, wheelbarrows or similar over. Do not pour the contents into the drain, but empty them on the lawn.

Union threatens Emerald Airlines with pilot strike

The atmosphere at the Irish regional airline Emerald Airlines is tense, as the Irish Air Line Pilots Association is threatening management with possible strikes during the height of summer 2023. The company describes these as unnecessary. Among other things, the employee representatives are demanding better pay and compensation for all overtime worked. Demands made by the employers will be rejected. The carrier concerned is confident that an agreement can be reached and that all flights can be carried out as planned. However, according to the union, management is generally refusing to negotiate with employee representatives. Therefore, the pilots are already working more overtime or taking on shifts on days off. A ballot has already been held for possible strikes, in which 92 percent voted in favor.
