Lower Austria: Discover the Marchfeld by bike

The landscape of the Marchfeld with its baroque castles is a popular destination for excursions - also by bike. The "Marchfeld Castles Cycling" project aims to use the existing cycling potential in the Marchfeld and make it more attractive through innovative, interesting additional offers tailored to the target groups - for example through new cycling routes. "Lower Austria is the number one cycling country - there are suitable routes for all ambitions. The Weinviertel scores with its diverse network of cycle paths and the connection to international cycle paths for guests from near and far. The ongoing development and upgrading of the infrastructure creates the best conditions for unforgettable leisure experiences," emphasizes Governor Johanna Mikl-Leitner. Cycling trips and cycling tourism in general are currently in vogue. Also in the Weinviertel: In 2022, more than 587.000 overnight stays were recorded, with a high proportion of these being in the area of cycling tourism, in addition to wine and culinary lovers. The Marchfeld is ideal for cyclists as it is criss-crossed by very well-developed and internationally well-known cycle paths: the Danube Cycle Path, which leads through the Danube-Auen National Park, the Kamp-Thaya-March Cycle Route (KTM), the Marchfeld Canal Cycle Path and the Iron Curtain Trail. All of these main cycle routes are linked by shorter and longer cycle tours. With its flat topography, the region is also ideal for "pleasure cycling" and, thanks to the dense network of routes, is also ideal for longer, sporty bike rides. The good connections from Vienna and Bratislava for day trips are another highlight of the area. A new initiative is to promote the development of tourism in the area of culture, nature and excursion tourism in and around the Marchfeld castles by the end of June 2024. The routes are marked by staged

Sky Think Tank launches NET Zero

A Gozo-based company called Sky Think Tank, led by Captain Alexander Esslinger, has unveiled the first concept for a drone delivery service on the island. The new drone delivery concept is called NET Zero and will be available to the general public once the company has gone through the full certification process with local authorities. The demo flight took place at the old RAF Ta' Qali airfield, now used by the Malta Model Aircraft Flying Association. The event was extremely well received by both potential investors and a number of industry leaders. Captain Esslinger has earned an enviable reputation as a Twin Otter seaplane pilot, flying in the Mediterranean for the now defunct European Coastal Airlines and later for Manta Air in the Maldives. NET Zero believes there is an untapped market for such a drone delivery service on the island. The drone flown during the demo flights can carry a payload of 2,5kg and fly between Malta and Gozo in just 10 minutes. The company has identified three areas of use where it believes this drone will be most cost-effective. These are HEALTH, RETAIL and shore-to-ship deliveries. Italy: Bergamo Airport wants to outperform Malpensa

In the future, the Italian airport of Bergamo will be connected by rail to the city center of the metropolis of Milan. Construction work has already begun. A total of four platforms will be built under the arrivals hall. Currently, passengers who want to travel from Bergamo airport to Milan have to take the city bus to the main station. Alternatively, there are also non-stop buses from private providers that run between the airport and the city center of Milan. In the future, it will be possible to reach Bergamo airport by rail without changing trains. There are also plans to set up special express trains that will run without stopping. Those responsible for the project currently assume that the railway line can be opened in time for the Winter Olympics in 2026. Bergamo airport will thus become an even tougher competitor for Malpensa airport, which is far away from Milan, because the travel time will be significantly shorter. The operating company Sacbo is also investing heavily in the apron. The construction of a new northern taxiway – Taxiway W – will increase capacity by 35% to accommodate the expected traffic volume and optimise the use of the recently expanded north side of the airport, which is mainly used for cargo, logistics and maintenance purposes. In addition to the taxiway extension, which includes two new interchanges – BB and BA –, three new aircraft positions will be created, designed for Class D aircraft. With the opening of these stands, the airport will have a total of 48 independent stands for Class C aircraft (31 on the south apron and 17 on the

The government does not want to sell Tap Air Portugal until next year

The majority re-privatization of the airline Tap Air Portugal was actually supposed to be put out to tender in July 2023. Transport Minister João Galamba has now said that the tender should be published before October 2023 at least. The carrier was privatized a few years ago, but was re-nationalized in several steps. The government now wants to hand the majority back into private hands, but there are quite strict conditions. For example, the buyer must commit to maintaining the hubs on Portuguese territory and expanding them if possible. The aviation groups International Airlines Group, Air France-KLM and Lufthansa are said to be very interested. Some of the directors have already expressed their support, but due to the lack of a tender, no concrete offers have yet been made. It therefore remains to be seen who will actually participate in the process and who will not. The Portuguese government has already made it clear that the state wants to stay on board as a minority shareholder. This is an attempt to secure influence over the airline and in particular the further development of the Lisbon hub. So far, however, no information has been given about the size of the planned stake. The transport minister told CNN that they should wait for the relevant decree. The government member currently assumes that a decision will be made in the first quarter of next year as to who the majority will be sold to. Tap Air Portugal is still deep in the red. In the first quarter of the current year, it posted a loss of 57,4 million euros. Compared to the same period last year, the company was able to make a profit of XNUMX million euros.
